Fast, Durable, Short Lived
Review of Acer Aspire 5103WLMi - Turion 64 X2 TL-52 - 15.4" TFT by
tomt89
Advantages: Very fast, runs smoothly.
Disadvantages: Low battery life.
...I recieved my Acer Aspire 5103WLMi as a late birthday present this summer, in preparation for starting university. My dad chose the laptop for me, so I did not have any say in the matter! However, he made an excellent choice and I am very impressed with the computer.
The computer is very fast with 2GB of RAM and successfully running Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium with a Windows Experience Index base score of 3.5. My model came with AMD Turion 64 x2 1.6 GHz processor with 2 x 512 KB cache. The monitor is 15.4" TFT. Equipped with a double layer compatible DVD +/- R and RW disc writer and 160 GB hard disk drive there is plenty of space to store all those essays, reports, pictures, programs and music. The wireless LAN card enables easy access to WiFi points.
While the weight of the computer is not an issue in portablity...

Profile for success!
Review of Acer TravelMate 5513WLMi - Turion 64 X2 TL-52 1.6 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
Ross-Murray
Advantages: Fast, Large Hard Disk, Big Screen, Web Cam, Card Reader
Disadvantages: Vista Bugs
..., small businesses and those looking for a laptop to carry out basic to to day computing tasks. I was lucky enough to get mine for next to nothing thanks to an insurance claim which resulted in my Acer Aspire laptop being replaced. The price-tag of this machine is very reasonable given the specifications:
**AMD Turion 64 x2 Mobile Technology (1.6 Ghz, 2 x 512kb L2 cache)**
This processor is more than capable of running Windows Vista Business edition, smoothly and efficiently under the beautiful Vista Aero interface. The processor is your laptops "brain" carrying out all the various calculations and instructions - after all, everything in the world of computers boils down to a 1 or 0! This parictular model is dual core - think of this as having two brains in one head - twice the processing power. It has 2 times 512kb L2 cache...

bazza111375
Advantages: cheap, reliable and very good
Disadvantages: none for what you pay
...Dell inspiron 1501 - turion 64 x2 - 15.4 TFT
This is oldest of the three Dell's i have in my house, but they are still avaliabale for sale on line. a great buy at a cheap price, overall the Dell is very good
With a large 15.4 screen the picture is very good, with a large ghapics card installed game and video are excellent.
connectivity is very good, on Wifi and easy to connect, good sound can get a bit distorted at higher levels of sound.
Well presented keyboard, mouse pad is easy to use, bnattery life can be a bit short on the standard battery, but a longer life battery is avaliable from most good stockist
If your looking for a good laptop for cheap try this one, i got mine on Ebay new with a one year warranty for £200...

cant beat a dell
Review of Dell Inspiron 1501 - Turion 64 X2 TL-56 1.8 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
techno_man_37
Advantages: its a dell
Disadvantages: none
...up from looking dull and boring to looking like a stylish machine anyone would want to own.
The screen is clearly sturdy and doesn’t wobble if you shake the laptop about, its also easy to open and close and doesn’t make horrible creaking sounds like some screens on other laptops do.
This laptop does run very fast, this is due to its combination of its very high spec 2 gb of ram and its AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology processor. This runs at speeds of 1.8 Ghz which is very fast, especially when running 2 gb of ram as well so they’ll be no problem in running those demanding programs, games or anything else really.
The hard drive is also of high spec too, its got a built in 160 GB - Serial ATA-150 hard drive which can process data at speeds of 5400 rpm, which is very quick, these high speeds make all the difference...

great laptop
Review of Acer TravelMate 5514WLMi - Turion 64 X2 TL-56 - 15.4" TFT by
punk_rocker
Advantages: protable
Disadvantages: no gaming
...again like all the travelmates this laptop is specifically designed for those working people. it just makes working on your laptop that little bit easier.
most acers however don't look very stylish, however there is an element to this that acer have actually tried to make this one look nice for a change. there are better looking laptops out there but I think this travelmate actually looks pretty good. however it does still look a bit bulky compared to the newer laptops out there.
This features a turion 64x2 processor which runs the 1gb installed ram like a dream. Another great thing about this laptop is that the ram can be upgraded to 4gb, this isn't cheap however and could cost over £100 to upgrade it to 4gb of ram, however this would make the laptop run so much faster so if you do need a really fast laptop then this is possible...

dell laptops are great
Review of Dell Inspiron 1501 - Turion 64 X2 TK-53 1.7 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
techno_man_37
Advantages: good laptop
Disadvantages: the 3 in one memory card reader?
..., with lots of memory and just something to last them through college, university or just someone who wants a good laptop.
It features AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology TK-53 / 1.7 Ghz processor, and has a 1 gb of ram installed. However like with a lot of dells this can be upgraded to a maximum of 2 gb, which is great if you do need a lot more memory on your laptop.
The minimum for most laptops seems to be a 80 gb hard drive. However this dell has a great 120 gb Serial ATA-150 - 5400 rpm hard drive built in. its great to see dell has gone a bit further for their customers and instead of just giving them a basic 80gb hard drive have given them a 120 gb hard drive instead.
This dell has a 3 in 1 card reader, which is a good thing to have, however most laptops now have 5 in 1 and some even are beginning to have 7 in 1 card readers, so...

A-SUS-pect machine!
Review of ASUS A6TC AP007H - Turion 64 X2 TL-50 1.6 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
Radical-Machine
Advantages: Truly Portable, Durable, MacBook-contender!
Disadvantages: Lots of Pre-Loaded Software, Slow-ish Processor
...acceptably quick. However, even though the videocard is of exceptional qualty for a laptop, the processor, a Turion 64 X2, was only clocked at 1.6Ghz. If you want to run demanding games, the frame-rate isn't particularly good; playable but not comfortably. However, this is beside the point as it's not intended for that kind of use and certainly doesn't receive it!
Battery life is pretty good, roughly 2 hours, perhaps more, but I don't really sit there with a stopwatch ;)
The laptop serves its current purpose well, and whilst it could do with a bit more grunt in the main processor, it has enough RAM and features to maintain a solid performance, and provides enough value-for-money to justify a safe purchase. A quality laptop, that with a little tweaking is perfectly suited to any university-bound student!...

Acer Aspire 5102WLMi Not a bad replacement
Review of Acer Aspire 5102WLMi - Turion 64 X2 TL-50 1.6 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
jonny2483
Advantages: Large screen, easy to use, strong processing power
Disadvantages: heavy and bulky
...I have just recently recieved this laptop as a replacement for a stolen one. As my technical knowledge of laptops is not great, I want to focus this review around the more "user friendly" aspects of this machine. But just for completion I have included the specs below for you, make the most out of them if you so wish.
Model ID: LX.ABH05.086
Acer Aspire 5102WLMi - Turion 64 mobile technology TL-50 1.6 GHz - RAM : 1 GB - HD : 80 GB - DVD±RW (+R double layer) / DVD-RAM - 802.11b/g - Win XP Home - 15.4" Widescreen TFT 1280 x 800 ( WXGA )
The laptop itself is fairly simple and easy to use from the offfset. There is a variety of software pre-installed onto it including virus scanner, wireless internet, MSN messenger and a DVD viewing programme. Overall it is very easy to get up and running with all the basic functions with minimal...
