Authentic Turkish food in Hampstead
Advantages: Great atmosphere
Disadvantages: None really
...and pans and other implements that look very Turkish to me (although I haven't actually been to Turkey). Coupled with Turkish looking (and speaking) staff and traditional Turkish music, it is really easy to drift away and imagine being on holiday - it really is a very pleasant room.
Service
Both times that I have been to the restaurant, the service has been excellent. There are usually two young girls serving; both are friendly and pleasant, without being too 'in your face'. The owner/manager has been there both times too and has always come over to ask us if we enjoyed the food. Our food and drinks were served promptly, but not so fast that I thought the food was probably microwaved.
When we asked for the bill, it was brought to us promptly, accompanied by two sticky pieces of delicious Turkish Delight.

My favourite Turkish restaurant on Green Lanes
Advantages: Great food, quick, friendly service, inexpensive
Disadvantages: Can be crowded and noisy on weekend nights
...most of the restaurants in the neighbourhood, the decor isn't fancy, the chairs and tables are no frills, more like something you'd expect to see in a canteen. so this must be a way of them managing their space as I have to admit, the place isn't huge and those big wooden tables / chairs simply wouldn't fit in. If you look at the picture, you can already see half of the restaurant, it's quite small, I would say there are 6 - 7 tables for 4 altogether and a couple of small ones thrown in.
THE MENU
The overhead menu at the counter is bilingual and accurately priced. The table menu is partly English and partly Turkish which means the names of the food are always in Turkish, followed by a short description in English. Don't worry though, the staff (mostly local lads or ladies of Turkish origin) will happily explain anything to do...

Turkish Delight?
Advantages: Vaguely entertaining
Disadvantages: Hard to get into
...Introduction
A few months ago, I read The Winter Queen, the first of Boris Akunin's books in the Erast Fandorin series after having read a glowing article on his work in one of the weekend newspapers. I enjoyed the book, although I wasn't thrilled. Anyway, I decided to give Akunin another go with this third book in the series. In the Winter Queen, Erast Fandorin was a detective, so I was quite surprised in this book to find him as a volunteer in the Russo-Turkish war, although he does still have a role of mystery solver.
The author
Boris Akunin is the pseudonym for Grigory Chkhartishvili. Thank goodness he changed his name, I don't think I'd be able to remember his real name very easily. He lives in Moscow. His books have sold millions of copies in Russia. He has been frequently compared to authors such as Tolstoy and Sir Arthur...

Turkishly Delightful
Advantages: chocolate
Disadvantages: not big enough
...I have a passion for chocolate but I also love milk chocolate with Turkish delight. I have tried various brands but my favourite is Fry?s.
Whilst shopping at Asda I was ?delighted? to find that they had Fry?s Turkish Delight on special offer. A pack of three usually cost 99p but two packs today cost me £1.50. So there I was with my boots blacked stuffing two packs in my trolley. They won?t last long though because my husband likes them too.
Fry?s Turkish Delight claim to be ?92% fat free and full of eastern promise?. The packaging is made of a deep pink plastic with ?Turkish? in large bold white writing and ?Delight? in much smaller gold lettering. Inside are 3 individually wrapped bars of ?Turkish Delight?, which are very similar to the outer wrapping except they are in a very shiny shade of pink.

Turkish Airlines - A Bazar in the Sky
Advantages: regular loss of luggage, huge delays
Disadvantages: extremely cheap, extensive network in the middle east and central asia
...more than three hours, this is disappointing.
The food is plentiful but not very good. Tomato & cucumber salad with dressing as a starter, usually lamb or chicken as the main course, a fruit salad and a cheese selection for dessert. After a couple of flights you know their standard menu.
On domestic Turkish flights you only get a roll, again considering the vast distances and long flights within Turkey, this is not satisfactory.
They are using so much plastic for the wrapping, no European airline could justify that to the environmental conscious passenger, but ecology is not a big issue in the middle east, or not yet.
The stewardesses serving the Economy Class aren't very well trained. They hardly speak English and the slightest out of the ordinary request can get them helpless. They are not trained to react in an attentive...

Food for thought
Advantages: Compare foods you like to my preferences
Disadvantages: The 'Marmite' will stir up a debate I'm sure, lol
...What! Only 10 foods? Of all the MILLIONS/ BILLIONS of food products out there we can only pick 10? Well, I suppose you'd get bored by my 100th or so one..or tenth...
In no particular order; let's begin
1. Fish
-Smoked Haddock, Salmon, Cod, sea bass or tuna. Haddock is delcious in a pitta bread with scrambled egg or haselback potatoes. Salmon fillet is divine if you top it with mayo, crushed seasoned cornflakes with garlic and then drizzled with a cheese sauce. Smoked salmon slices mixed into mash with cheese spread! emm. And tuna, mix it with onion and some chutney to get fish fruity.
Make your own fish pie or chop it up into an omelete. Fish is sooo nutritional, versatile and delcious. Not a fan of sardines, herring; trout and the lark, or with heads and eyes still on!
Prawns - league of there own. Nice just out the pack...

Tasty Turkish Alternative To Tea And Coffee
Advantages: No caffeine, great flavour
Disadvantages: Not available locally. Contains a lot of sugar.
...Turkish Apple Tea is an excellent alternative to black tea, or coffee, and it contains no caffeine. Although it is called tea, it does not contain any form of tea at all and is really a kind of fruit cordial made from granulated fruit and sugar.
Hazer Baba is well known for fruit teas and makes several others including black cherry, pomegranate, orange and lemon. This product comes in an attractive green and red box with apples on the front. It is tall but quite slim and the actual packaging material is strong which means that you can keep the tea in its box and you don't have to put it into a jar.
I paid £2.27 for a box containing 250g but I had to order over the internet because I was not able to buy this locally. I bought from worldwideshoppingmall.com which is in Humberside.
To make apple tea place two teaspoons of powder in...

Liquid turkish delight****HEAVEN
Advantages: Low fat ,delicious,great taste,convenient,good value
Disadvantages: none for me
...As a confessed chocaholic , who has always had a thing about turkish delight , I spied this in my local supermarket and quickly bought it.
Now I have always carried a bit too much of the old blubber and have spent a life time yo-yo dieting.Some times succeeding and sometimes failing . I have learned to accept myself warts and all as they say (No Idon;'t have any warts)
Having said that if I can make a healthier or low fat choice with something I do try to.
I have bought various flavours from the options range in the past . The orange ( outrageous orange as it is now known ) has always been my favourite . Options are made by ovaltine , so a reputable well known brand.
Fry's turkish delight has been a firm favourite with me for many years but I do like traditional turkish delight ( ie rose and lemon) So...

Fancy a Turkish ?
Advantages: Very chocolatey
Disadvantages: Not much turkish delight
...I've just sampled a bar of Cadbury's "Dairy Milk Turkish" chocolate and felt the urge to share my thoughts with the Ciao community.
~~~ Why Did I buy It ~~~
Because :-
a) I got up too late to grab my lunch bag from the kitchen
b) The wrapper stood out from other choccy wrappers
c) It was reasonably small so I felt less guilty about indulging
~~~ The Wrapper ~~~
I don't like reviews which harp on about the wrappers and packaging so this is a first for me.
I feel compelled to mention the wrapper because it still retains the Cadbury trademark deep-blue background but has a bright splash of pink on the front to make it stand out - and it does.
My eyes were drawn straight to this bar of chocolate in the staff canteen due to it's distinctive, decadent pink colour.
Also, it is helpfully labelled with "Turkish" in reasonably...

This Turkish Delight is no Turkey.
Advantages: Nice chocolate and good amount of filling
Disadvantages: small bar nad expensive
...My mum is a creature of habit. She knows what she likes and can be somewhat reluctant to try new things. This means that her favourite chocolate bars have been a staple in our house. For as long as I can remember we have usually had Turkish Delight in our house for my mother's consumption. The form that it usually came in was Fry's Turkish Delight. However in recent years she has switched to Dairy Milk with Turkish filling.
But when I returned home two weeks ago I discovered that Fry's Turkish Delight had returned. I have had a couple of bars in my life time. I quite like Turkish Delight, it wouldn't be my first choice but it is by no means inedible.
You can get your hands on Fry's Turkish Delight in two forms: singly for around 45p or in a multi-pack of four for about £1.30-50. My mother bought the multi-pack and this...
