...Perhaps my title sets a challenge of my very own to you my dear Ciao readers, for I have managed to make it turn 5 times thus far, and have enjoyed it every time. How many times would it grace your CD players...... (probably none as it is punk rock!!) One of the greatest attributes of a band is the variation of songs on an album. Others include overall strength of the songs and evidence that the band cares about the music they are producing: 1208 have it all. Turn of the Screw is the second record from this Californian quintet. Billing themselves as a rock & roll life raft in a scene increasingly littered with mallpunk junk, 1208 must have impressed to be invited to join the Epitaph label but the evidence speaks for itself. Disadvantages: James's prose can be painfully dense

...Of Henry James's writings, it is the novella, 'The Turn of the Screw' that is possibly the most widely-known, albeit his other, less psychologically troublesome works, such as 'The Portrait of a Lady' remain, perhaps, more widely *read*. The simple 'plot' of The Turn of the Screw is often described in straightforward terms which, really, are utterly spurious in the face of such deliberate ambiguity - James himself, in his foreword, indicates that the tale is a response to his need to 'make {the reader} think the evil...make him think it for himself'. To attempt, then, to indicate the most important parts of James's plot would be an exercise doomed to fail, given that James himself seemed not to know. ...This is the only piece of fiction I have read by Henry James. But if you want intrigue, the dimension of gory reality and children that create more unease that any phantom...then this is your pit stop. It begins with a group of gentlemen swapping 'ghostly' stories. The tension is set, for both the characters and the reader. " The Turn of the Screw " begins with the employment of a governess for two children ( hired by their elusive guardian ). I won't spoil it for you by telling you the basic premise of the plot - but strange happenings recorded by the staff and the governess herself pull the suspense strings taut, until you hear them pinging one by one.... ...had the same idea, as there are some excellent sites on the web dedicated to alternative uses for these "otherwise useless" CDs! When you think about it, it must be costing AOL/Time Warner a fortune in advertising and CDs, just for the UK. Surely their shareholders are concerned about this huge marketing expenditure? The answer comes from the USA where AOL is more advanced in it's marketing lifecycle, having had dominance for some years - they are turning the screws on their 29 million American subscribers - and raising the cost of subscriptions. It seems it's time for AOL to cash in. AOL feels it's customers are loyal to the brand, and as it has their email accounts they will be reluctant to move. ...I will readily admit that I have never been what you could call a fan of Richard Branson, with his outrageous self publicity and his record attempts I have often found him rather annoying. But then part of me admires him, as anyone who can create such a hugely successful business as Virgin must be doing something right. ...I turned 30 recently. It’s not an age I was particularly looking forward to reaching, but it happens to most of us at some point in our lives. 30 is one of those funny ages, where you can still be told “oh, you’re still young” by people who have reached it, but where teenagers and people in their early 20s can make you feel dreadfully old. 30 is also one of those ages you use as a deadline. When you’re young, it seems so far away and so adult that you can safely say “I’ll do this by the time I’m 30”, knowing you have plenty of time.
