Official Wii Component Video Cable
Review of Nintendo Wii Component Video Cable by
tungst3n
Advantages: Far better picture than standard composite, better looking games
Disadvantages: Expensive, Only needed for larger screens 32" or greater
...After the release of the little white bundle of joy on the 8/12/2006 people were given a composite cable to show off their new shinny new console.
AV enthusiasts all know a composite signal is the poor quality option for showing video on their TV's - what people really want is RGB or Component video input.
As console manufactures are out to make a profit they usually bundle the cheapest and most compatible option with the console and then release upgrades to that product for people who need or want it. Nintendo understand this and have released two video upgrade options - the Wii RGB cable or the Wii Component cable.
Lets get things straight from the off, The Nintendo Wii is not a High Definition Console, What this cable does offer is a enhanced image resolution of 480p.
I finally got hold of the component video cable after...

WinTV-PVR-Digital TV and video on your PC.
Review of Hauppauge WinTV PVR-USB by
blackbeard
Advantages: Ecellent picture quality & ease of use
Disadvantages: Bit pricy
...orange box! Stopping to look at it, I realised this is a piece of hardware which could display television on your PC! So what? I thought! I already have a card in my computer which does that! Or do I?
This particular piece of external hardware, (which is also available as an internal card) produces a digital TV image. Okay! This that is better than my existing internal TV card.
However, it also gives the same functions as offered by certain digital boxes as being able to pause live TV, rewind live TV, play in slow motion, record TV programmes to your hard disk for burning to DVD or VCD. It also always pre programming so you can set it, just as you would your video recorder to come on at a certain time to record your favourite programmes. It also has FM radio functions on it to.
WinTV-PVR is a 125-channel cable ready TV receiver...

Review of AVerMedia AVerTV Hybrid + FM DVB-T PCI by
Deru
Advantages: Digital TV, Good picture quality, Excellent remote, User friendly software
Disadvantages: Can't pay for some listed channels, No video editing software, Long recordings freeze the program
...also made the channel list differentiate scrambled (non-viewable) channels from normal ones by marking the scrambled ones in red. I thought it was a welcome change. Overall, I feel the support is good and it seems they are constantly improving the software, which gives me confidence in AVerMedia and their products.

Excellent value TV and Video combi
Review of LG KE-14U73 TV / Video Combi by
elmhurstgb
Advantages: Good quality at a reasonable price
Disadvantages: Not a top name
...Looking for an extra TV for the bedroom? Well, if you want a low cost 14” set that comes complete with a built in video then why not consider the latest offering from LG? The LG KE-14U73 is a TV / VCR combination that must be the amongst the best value combis around. At a price of little more than £130 you would have every right to expect a poor picture and tinny sound, however, the LG surprises and delights.
Although not a flat screen the picture is good quality and certainly as good as some of the more pricey models. The TV is easy to set up, the on-screen menus are clear and easy to follow and, if you use the auto tuning facility you can be up and running in around 2 minutes. The TV has a scart socket so if you have a DVD or a sky digi box you can connect it up.
The video is already programmed up, all that remains...

Truly jaw dropping portable video device. Truly!
Review of Archos AV 500 30GB by
alienrider
Advantages: Great LCD, Battery Life, Versatility, just an awesome device.
Disadvantages: Converting your DVD's for it can be technical.
...and then cut it down to size. Those overlays do rock.
Also bear in mind you get a serious amount of accessories to use with the AV500 including two sets of input and output video composite with L-R audio leads. TV Pod to connect create a pass-thru circuit with the recording source so the AV500 can piggy back onto that and record the signal (the TV Pod creates a pass thru with only composite video L-R Audio only, you can record a S-VHS signal giving superior quality but you can't output it to the TV only the LCD). A USB lead to connect it to the computer though this is very short! *puzzled* A USB Host lead that allows devices to connect to the AV500 ie compatible cameras, card readers etc. Also a case, which is ok but not brilliant. An IR-Emitter lead which when used with an AV500 which has the code (not guaranteed, though more odes get updated...

An expensive cable but well worth it.
Review of Sony VMC 15HD Video / Audio cable by
davy246
Advantages: Great pictures and you can connect it to a number of devices.
Disadvantages: It is expensive and the cable is quite short.
...The Sony male VMC 15HD Video / Audio cable is very cheap for the thing it does which is transfer images. This cable is the future of HD TV I paid £25.00 for this cable. The UK Sony website sells it at £29.00 but there are plenty of other suppliers out there.
This is a great piece of kit for transferring pictures from HD DVD players to HD TVs and still leaves the pictures with a very high picture quality you on the screen with its high rate data transfer "which means it loses very little detail."
Sony states Gold-plated terminals for much improved signal transmission.
This cable has gold plated connectors "The connectors are the gold bits at either end of the cable that go into the two devices e.g. TV to DVD.
The cable is one and a half meters long this is more than enough cable to connect it up to my new blu ray HD...

Wii component cable- Well worth the money
Review of Nintendo Wii Component Video Cable by
Mattletcher
Advantages: sharper/brighter picture, opens up more ports on TV, saves hassle.
Disadvantages: quite expensive for a simple console improvement
...The Nintendo Wii component video cable really is a sound investment if you are the owner of an HD/ LCD TV, and obviously a nintendo Wii.
Before i bought it, i had trouble with the picture quality and contrast on many of the games. Games such as Wii Sports were fine, but more of the action/adventure games such as Zelda or Splinter Cell give a very dark picture which can sometimes be hard to make out what was happening. The only way i could combat this problem was to adjust the contrast on my television which did help, but was alot of hassle.
With the component cable, the picture is not only much brighter, but much sharper and defined. It gets rid of the hassle of having to turn the contrast back down after playing on the Wii and improves the overall gaming experiance. Another bonus is that on your HD TV, this cable plugs...

As Seen On TV - On Video
Review of Victoria Wood - The Best Of Victoria Wood - As Seen On TV DVD by
jonathancowley
Advantages: very funny in places
Disadvantages: a bit of a cheek calling it "very best of"
...Videos are dead cheap nowadays, aren't they? Virgin Megastores are flogging off the Shawshank Redemption and Titanic for £3 each! I guess we're firmly in the DVD age now and in a few years my videos will be gathering dust as fast as a Dyson in a very dusty place.
All of which brings me on to Victoria Wood As Seen On TV - the video. If you ever caught the programme when it was first shown in the 80s, or on any of the two billion (approximately) times it has been repeated, then you already know what it is like. The video claims to be "the very best of", but to me it seems more like two 45 minute episodes cobbled together.
The video contains a mix of comedy sketches starring Victoria Wood, Celia Imrie, Duncan Preston, Patricia Routledge, Susie Blake and the fantastic Julie Walters. The BBC produced the video in 1996 and obviously...
