Budget TV
Review of Beko 28426NDS by simond25

Advantages: Good solid tv, good picture, allrounder.
Disadvantages: Sound quality not up to scratch

...This TV is a good quality tv for the money you pay. If you want a cheap tv that works and is under guaruntee for a year then this is your best bet. If however you want top notch sound and picture quality then look elsewhere. The TV looks great this particular one came in a silver finish with speakers on either side. Be warned this tv weighs a ton and should be a 2 man job to put on a table or stand. Everything is nice and simple with 2 scart sockets at the back for dvd and digibox plus an aerial port. The channel tuning was automated and a complete breeze. Setting up the tv was easy as pie. I connected the skybox and dvd autotuned channels and hey presto I had sky tv plus dvd's worked straight away!! The remote is easy to use and very light. TV Specs: Height - 49cm Width - 72cm Depth - 50cm Screen Size (Inches) - 28... Read review

Way Hey! Surround sound here we come!
Review of Sony DAV-SB 500 W by walt

Advantages: IT IS AMAZING
Disadvantages: Can be complex

...Okay call me sad but i wanted one - must have cinema surround-sound. I will be purchasing an LCD TV soon so wanted the sound to go with it. BUT, my girlfriend didn't want the cables that usually go with it. So i diligently did my research for a system with wireless rear speakers - and this is what i came up with. Now ,Sony in their wisdom, have withdrawn this model from production (to introduce a new model for £1500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) - this one was marketing at about £600. So searching around i found one for £299 at EmpireDirect.co.uk, placed my order online and it arrived in three days. It comes in a massive box that weighs a ton - so bear this in mind if you aren't going to be home to receive it. For you money you get 4 tall speakers, one centre speaker and a sub- woofer also the DVD with built in amp, a separate amp for the rear... Read review

A great TV from Samsung! the LE32R74
Review of Samsung LE32R74BDX 32" HD Ready LCD TV by nweststeyn

Advantages: Stylish, Great Picture Quality, Easy to Set Up, Fantastic for Gaming
Disadvantages: Lacking in volume

...Just after Christmas I felt it was high time I got myself a new TV. The old tube TV was beginning to show it's age, and the range of sleek black Samsung LCD TV's caught my eye. I made the order, and soon after a beautiful, stylish television arrived at my house. 32 inches of great picture quality. I plugged it in, plugged in my HDMI cable to DVD player and first checked out a BBC natural history DVD. The first thing I noticed was that the clarity and colour depth was incredible straight out of the box. Nature has never looked so beautiful on a screen! It was fairly painless to begin changing colour settings, and i'd soon set up a preset by using the samsungs easy to understand menu. So far so good. After switching to TV mode, a quick glance at the user manual explained how to tune in my terrestrial TV, and less than 15 minutes later... Read review

Widescreen TV at a reasonable price
Review of Toshiba 28W93 by franna

Advantages: Good picture, easy to use, nice cabinet (free)
Disadvantages: No audio-out

...- no audio-out connectors for connecting your TV to your amplifier. However, this problem disappears if you have VCR (since you can view your TV channels through the VCR tuner, which can be connected to your amp. The two SCART connectors are handy for connecting DVD's, Digital TV decoders and the like. Overall I am satisfies with my, albeit impulsive, buy and can recommend this TV to anyone who can not afford the expensive brands but still desires widescreen TV.... Read review

Good receiver for its time
Review of Sony STR-DB 930 QS B by MartinImber

Advantages: Excellent sound, very flexible
Disadvantages: Stereo as good, awkward remote

..., I am driving very high quality speakers (see my Castle review) and I can deafen myself if required. The receiver is not out of its depth with decent speakers either, some amps of this price will struggle. Compared to other home cinema receivers I have heard it is very good. My DVD player does not do DTS, so is untested by me Prologic support is there I do not know if it is good for prologic as I have heard very little beyond DPL TVs (a nono I think), but it adds more depth to TV programmes Connections Coax and Optical for DVD TV, Optical in for TV, Optical In/Out for Minidisc or DAT. Stereo in for TV, DVD, MD or DAT, tape, and 2 VCRs, extra VCR in on front panel. Stereo out for 2 VCRs, MD/DAT, tape, second system. Phono Level in for record decks. 5.1 out for seperate amplifiers, 5.1 in for SACD or DVD-A. Video switching... Read review

Make your TV sound 100 times better for 4 quid
Review of Member Advice on Building with Separates by jonball

Advantages: Hugely improved sound quality on TV and video for almost no cost
Disadvantages: One more button to press when turning the TV on

...I never cease to be amazed by how many people have hi fi systems but continue to put up with the rotten sound they get out of their TV speakers. You can spend hundreds on an Audio-visual amp and half a dozen speakers dotted around the room, to experience the Dolby Digital surround sound from a DVD... But the single biggest jump in sound quality is achieved by simply connecting a £4 audio lead between the TV or video and any existing hi fi amplifier or even a mini/midi system. Even high-end Nicam TVs have very poor quality amplification and speakers built in, so a great improvement can be made over this easily and very cheaply. The sound feed can be taken from the TV itself - many modern sets have a pair of phono plugs for this purpose. Alternatively, the audio output of the VCR or cable/satellite box can be used. Either way, plug... Read review

Does a lot, but does it extreemly well!
Review of Pioneer VSX-AX3 Multi-Channel Stereophonic A/V Receiver by Omertron

Advantages: 5 separate source inputs, easy to set-up, superb sound.
Disadvantages: Weighs a lot (16kg!), quite big.

..., during which time the each of the speakers makes various noises so the amp can figure out where they are and adjust itself accordingly. Attaching all of your sources to the amp can be a little tedious, but you only need to do it once (assuming that you have the correct cables). Once all of that's done, sit back and enjoy the great sound the amp produces! Summary -------------- In day to day use, the amp is brilliant. The clarity of sound is awesome. Sitting down watching TV and DVD's is more enjoyable now because it sounds like you are right there in the action. Listening to music is great as you can hear every note with clarity (The Live 8 concert was brilliant). Overall I would give the amp a 9/10 just because I refuse to believe that anything is perfect and this amp is perhaps 5cm too big to fit on my TV stand, but hey, I'll live... Read review

Great colour, contrast & features, some gripes
Review of Samsung LE-32N73BD by Dagsy

Advantages: Great colour and contrast with tonnes of features. Looks fantastic.
Disadvantages: Sound, mpeg artifacts

...I bought this TV 2 days ago for €1,100 after researching all the TVs on the market (March 2007). I picked it because it offered the most features for the price while still being a reputable brand. The features which convinced me were USB, card reader, optical out and 2 HDMIs. First impression: great design: sleek with black gloss finish. Connecting my equipment (Playstation, DVD, Media player, and Video Sender) was painless with plenty of ins for all. Turning on the TV it tuned in all my analogue and digital channels. Within 10 mins I was watching TV. Tonnes of settings are accessible in the menus. Read the manual to get an idea. The picture size modes resolve any "black bars" in movies. Colour and contrast are fantastic. Vivid and bright colours and good shading in dark scenes. Connecting my mp3 player to USB port played MP3s... Read review

good player
Review of Sony DVPS325 by amercer

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...I have had this player for over 6 months now and can highly recommend it to anyone. I am very fussy about electronic gear but this one is very good. It is currently connected to a DTS amp and a 32" widescreen panasonic TV. The combination works very well and produces high quality sound and vision. Use its bigger brother the 725 if you don't have a DTS amp and want quality sound output. I have this player chipped up for region 1 use and have not encountered any problems playing other egion DVD's. I have yet to find any DVD which will not play on this player.... Read review

Very Good all round AV Receiver
Review of Yamaha RX-V596RDS by groomoid

Advantages: Price, Quality, Sound, Looks
Disadvantages: Remote a bit fiddily

...to CD's and vinyl via a turntable. The remote can also control your DVD, Digital Satellite, T.V. and video by entering codes. I found the remote a bit fiddily and in the dark its difficult to use. Back lit buttons would have been a nice idea.. In short it is an all in one solution for home cinema and hi-fi. Don't waste your money on these one-box solutions for DVD home cinema. Buy this amp, a decent DVD Player (Pioneer DV-535 is good), and a set of speakers (See Richer sounds for some great offers). All you need then is a torch and some popcorn. You'll never go to the cinema again.... Read review
