...I was tempted into buying this combo for two main reasons - the first being its space saving size for a video and tv combi and secondarily the price. It is difficult to find a combi system at this sort of price bracket, however, this is not enough to recommend it for a number of reasons. First I will go through the good points of this product. instalation and setup is fine, with intuative tuning and easily understood controls for brightness and the like. The picture, whilst not bing remarkable is fair for its price: the blacks are pretty deep and the colours are balanced and strong. Going on to the VCR playback and the product begins to falter. Even new videos have unblanced colour and tracking is suspect. They are no means unwatchable, but there is an apparent loss in quality. Recording using the product is also only average... ...I got this TV and video combo about three months ago and it has been brilliant. It has a good picture and is definately cheaper than buying a video and tv seperately if you are just after a good practical little TV and video. I bought it for £180 on offer, so it was an excellent purchase. Features: *It has a one year guarrantee so in the event of failure all repair work will be carried by your retailer. *One thing which I find very useful with this TV is that it has a childlock so they can't record over your favourite TV programmme which you specially recorded and will never be on again, and they can't muck up any settings you took your time to programmme in. *It also has a timer which you can set if you want to record at the same time every week which is very useful if you are penchant to forgetting to watch a program... Advantages: Compact combi unit which plays MP3's, WMA's and has good DVD playback and VHS Extended Play feature
Disadvantages: Playback of recordings from other VCR’s can be poor and quite noisy

...The NV-VP30EBS is Panasonic’s replacement to the NV-VHD1BS. It is visually pleasing for a combi VCR DVD unit with plenty of features, however these are not with out minor problems. The unit is very compact and does not take up much more space than a full size VCR unit. It is quite elegant and the online and brochure pictures do not do it justice. Performance wise the DVD picture is very good, even through RF connected to an old TV. The unit also plays MP3’s, WMA’s and display JPEG’s either on CDR or CDRW and the only problems experienced have been discs with a combination of these different files types which is to be expected. The unit will play in random mode, which is ideal for CD’s containing lots of tracks. Sound wise the output is moderate and I experienced problems with sound through the RF lead, however these aren’t as bad... Read review

Advantages: records straight from VHS to DVD, acutally real dual tuner!
Disadvantages: cannot edit unless you use DVD-RAM discs, not freeview

.... Not least being able to preserve my valuable recordings but also make my collection portable to any other kind of digital media I wish. I do think that in this era of fast technological advance that the VCR part of this is now out of date and in future I think I would purchase a combi DVD recorder with Hard disk drive. However, I am yet to find a model with dual digital tv receivers which puts me off replacing this model at the moment...come on Sony - you've done remarkably in providing a DVD-R/HDD with dual tuners, but how about dual digital tuners? Advantages: Cheap and cheerful with all the main functions wanted
Disadvantages: Nothing major-aesthetically not too pleasing

...Alba VCR6000 Features: On-screen displays, 80 memory for presets, auto TV station search, 2 speed recording/playback, timer recording, one touch timer record, video index search, auto rewind, auto eject, auto power off, zero return, on screen language display (English, French or German), scart socket and an infrared remote control. This VCR was my first VCR and it is still in perfect working order after having daily use for a year and a half. I find that it is a very reliable video recorder-when ever I use the timer record function it has always recorded the right programme at the right time. I find that I often use the index search feature-this allows you to fast forward or rewind to when you started to record something; I find this useful when I am searching through a tape to try and find something because it allows me... ...i think this video player is fantastic ... brought it about 5 years ago ... you can tell how long ago becuase it cost my mum £99.95 for a christmas present ... still got the VCR now though ... this VCR is fantastic ... has amazin levels of durability and is really good value ... these days about £24.95 typically ... i have had the VCR for at least 5 years now ... up to 8 maximum ... it shows the durability and has never failed me once ... the VCR has a video and auido output on the front ... didn't think much of this at the time but know i think its amazin because i put the lead from my digital camera into each port and my photos come through the TV ... this is fantastic because i don't have to go round the back of the TV (rather messy with 10 million meters of cable) to find the ports ... just wack it in the front ... onto... ...at getting a signal from a “coat-hanger” than it would at ground level, although we got fed up with fiddling with it to get rid of ghost images, and fitted a “proper” one instead. Niggles? Well, as with all combinations TV/VCR’s that only have one tuner, you can only watch the same channel as is being recorded. Some other “combis” have two tuners, but then they cost more. Heh, how serious does your bedroom viewing get anyway (of TV I mean, not what you get up to with binoculars!) Also, the timer is a bit quirky to operate, as the clock needs resetting before it will work since the on/off switch really does cut the supply to the whole thing. You COULD leave it on stand-by* to obviate the need for this but you end up with a red LED looking at you when trying to get to sleep. Better to regard this VCR... Read review

...in the past (apart from a portable TV/DVD combi that had a design fault - see other TV review!), also I like the look of their products, and they're extremely easy to set up. I switched it on, by the power switch located on the top of the TV (along with sound and channel changing buttons, also a menu button to access or close menus for changing settings, although I personally prefer to use the remote control for this), and a 'plug and play' menu came up on the screen, indicating 'country' and 'language' settings. They are already pre-set to GB and English so no need to change things there if you're reading this in the UK! Should you need to change it, you move through the options with the up/down arrows on the remote control. I pressed the right arrow on the remote to continue. ...I really hit on a bargain for once in my life. Shall I tell you what it was:- THE MATSUI 14" COMBINED TV & VIDEO I know a lot of people go for well known names such a Sony, Sharp, Bush etc. So I suppose you are wondering who the heck is Matsui. Dixons store group, cover Currys and Dixons. Before the two stores merged Currys own brand was Saisho and Dixons own brand was Logic. When Dixons bought Currys out they merged their own brands and thus the new name own brand Matsui was invented. This may not be a well-known brand to many people, but because it is their own brand it is very reasonably priced, it enables more people from all walks of life to own and enjoy this TV/Video combi. Curry's Price £169.90 Is that a bargain or what. Now this is small enough and light enough to be easily moved from room... Read review
