Bush LCD23TV004 - Affordable space saver
Review of Bush LCD23TV004 by
NinaE
Advantages: affordable, good picture quality, easy setup, wall mountable
Disadvantages: only 1 scart socket, tinny sound quality
...wall mount to hang it up on my wall. Now the work started. The only wall I had available was drywall, hollow inside, so I was concerned about that. But some heavy duty fixings sorted that problem. Vesa is a mounting standard for LCD screens, that either use a 75mm mounting plate or 100mm. This TV uses 100mm and was easy to fit, due to it's weight of only 11kg.
In the box:
It comes with a kettle lead, same as most PC monitors do. Also in the box is a VGA lead to connect it to your PC if you want to, an easy to use remote control, the manual and warranty documents. Bush gives you the option to extend the warranty by either an additional 2 years (£51.90) or 3 years (£73.90), on top of the 1 year standard warranty it comes with. I found this to be the cheaper option, compared to taking out extra warranty with an online retailer or store...

Does the service negate your warranty!!
Review of Dealer service and warranty by
SARUMAN
Advantages: some but not many
Disadvantages: Expensive
...What is a dealership service and warranty?
I suppose to begin with we should look at the service.
When you buy a car it's not long before you recieve a letter stating that it is time for your service and can you please arrange for an appointment. Now regardless of what service it is, whether it is your first one or third one the main concern is the cost. As any car driver will know the cost can be quite excessive to say the least.
I personally have always had my car serviced at a reliable garage, although there aren't many about. When you purchase a car the dealer always states that you must bring it back to them for a service or it will negate your warranty, is this so!
I recently purchased a new car from a Rover dealer and it was a Hyundai Accent. I decided to put it in for a service with my normal garage...

Manufacturer Servicing and warranty
Review of Dealer service and warranty by
polo_princess
Advantages: repairs paid for
Disadvantages: costs of maintaing your vehicle
...To a consumer, manufacturer servicing and warranty procedures can be a minefield. When buying your new car you hardly give a second thought to servicing it, or even worse, you may have problems and break down.
A lot of consumers when buying a car are aware of (as a general rule) a 3 year or 60,000 mile manufacturers warranty. Now this does not mean that all parts are covered for a full three years, this is a very important statement to remember as i see customer after customer who arent aware of this. Items such as clutches/brakes etc, are normally onlt covered for the first year or up to 20,000 miles, the reason being is later on down the line they are classed as a wear and tear item. So please refer to your vehicles handbook and get a clear understanding of what items are covered when trying to make a claim.
WIth regards...

Warranties are there to make manufacturers richer
Review of Member Advice on PC Extended Warranties by
Simoncook1
Advantages: Provide a little relief for worriers
Disadvantages: More often than not, no extended warranty is needed.
...Manufacturers should perhaps have a 'no claims' system so users can reduce the cost of extended warranties and even get refunds after the extended period....

Philips 30" LCD Television
Review of Philips 170B2M LCD Televisions by
lona
Advantages: Brilliant picture and outstanding appearance
Disadvantages: No assurance on how long it will last
...to be replaced every 2 to 3 weeks.
It was also pointed out to me that these LCD televisions cannot be repaired and anyone buying one would be advised to take out an extended warranty as it is a lot of money to spend if they are not going to last beyond a year which is the normal warranty....

Cheaper Than Its 3-year Warranty
Review of Alba DVD59 by
BNibbles
Advantages: Good quality picture and reasonable versatility. Great price
Disadvantages: No frontal display. Remote needs good line-of-sight.
...The Prologue – Never Say Never Again. Only in November was I promising to write no more home cinema/TV opinions, having filled my hi-fi rack to brimming, and now it’s starting all over again thanks to the ageing process (the equipment’s, not mine)!
……and now back to the plot.
Here’s a good example of vain hope in action.
“ALBA Vision – Your Guarantee plus up to 3 years protection against unexpected repair bills”.
If I take up this magnanimous offer, an additional 3-years warranty on my new Alba DVD player will bump up the price by £99.90, at a rate of £33.30 per annum
PROBLEM?
Well, the Alba DVD59 of which I write (I will eventually - honest!) cost me £32.99 from Homebase. As it comes with a one year warranty, I could buy a new one every year, and still have it work out cheaper than the extended warranty.

How to Make A Fortune Doing Nothing
Review of Member Advice on PC Extended Warranties by
mikeydred
Advantages: For the Companies they are Money For Nothing
Disadvantages: For the Customer they are Nothing for Money
...We live in a throw away age. You even get milk in cartons these days, bottles (how green can you get), seem to be disappearing by the day. Food comes prepacked in plastic cartons, drinks in cans or plastic bottles , with plastic straws, spoons, plates, whatever. Look in the rubbish bins and on the floor outside of McDonalds and Burger King.
A few years ago someone came out with the bright idea of offering “extended guarantees” on electronic goods such as televisions and video recorders. The more unstable the product , obviously , the higher the premium.
The problem with these guarantees is that they are often advertised as three or five year guarantees. What the shops don’t point out is that your first twelve months is covered under the sale of goods act, so immediately the value for money factor goes down...

How do you spell RIP OFF
Review of Member Advice on PC Extended Warranties by
Nameless
Advantages: Keeps Dixons Group rich
Disadvantages: A total waste of your hard earned
...I remember when I went to buy my PC. All the experience I had of them was reading the copy of Computeractive that month, which handily came with a guide your buying your first PC.
Not knowing where to go or what to do, I trundled along to my nearest PC World and set about looking at the machines. I knew roughly what specs I wanted so I was OK in that department. Having selected my machine (under the annoyingly watchful gaze of Dave the shop assistant) I proceeded to make the purchase.
All was going well, I conned a better set of speakers from them, as there were none available of the kind I was meant to have. I got my mouse upgraded to a wheel mouse and got a free mat. Then the spiel started about extended warranties.
I had been offered these things before on TV’s and stereos etc. but never took them, as at the end...

KLV-26HG2 - One of the best LCD TVs in its class!
Review of Sony KLV-26HG2 by
ben_keene
Advantages: Superior Picture Performance, Sexy exterior, Component Input, NTSC playback
Disadvantages: Speakers aren't detatchable, no extra leads in the box, only 1 analogue tuner
...!) That in my opinion is worth spending money on, since I am likely to change my TV again after about 8-10 years. These figures have come from independent test companies, and so are not biased, but remember that this does not mean it will not develop a fault in 12 years! It is still a machine, and could break down; however, I think it is engineered well enough to cope with the 3 or so hours I throw at it every day!
So what do you get for your money? Well aside from the technology explained above (and I hope you head doesn’t hurt at this point!) you will also get the following:
• Operating Instructions
• Remote Control RM-Y1105
• Batteries
• AC Power Cord
• Registration Card
• Warranty Card
• 75 ohm Coaxial Cable (To connect to your aerial)
The operating instructions are relatively easy to understand, and should you wish to read...

TV ...or not TV...? That is the Question !
Review of BBC - TV Licence by
jouk04
Advantages: Reasonable value for money
Disadvantages: Compulsory, and terrifying if you can't afford it !
...TV or not TV…? That is the question .Wether it is nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows, of the tv licensing spies, for not having a licence...or just cough up and be done with it !
I received a reminder today informing me that my TV licence was due, which prompted me to puzzle the positive pros and cons of this seemingly antiquated licensing system, which is after all an unfair tax on the British public,
The 2006/2007 colour TV licence costs £10.96 per month - about 36p per day for each household. It is free if you are over 75, half-price if you are registered blind.
They must have worked out that half the enjoyment comes from the pictures and half the pleasure comes from the sound ?
The annual cost (set by the Government) is currently £131.50.
A black and white TV licence is £44.
THERE IS NO RADIO LICENSE...
