Gives your holes a damn good plugging.
Review of Boots Soft Disposable Ear Plugs by
tallulahbang
Advantages: Eliminate most noise, comfortable.
Disadvantages: Do not eliminate Irish mothers.
...and take to the streets. Now, I don't begrudge anyone a party but when the housing estate that backs onto my street have a massive bonfire, hire the kind of sound system that puts Glastonbury to shame and put out a call to arms for the most spectacularly stupid and uninspired DJ ever to lay his hand on the decks ('Alright lads! This is DJ Loyalist Larry from the Orange massive! Mark? Your Ma says you're to have your tea before you go to the bonfire. Right folks, let's burn the pope to the sounds of, erm, Amy Winehouse. Yeah!') and they're still going strong at 3 in the morning, ear plugs are called for.
Aside, though, from the obvious 'helping you to get to sleep' benefits of ear plugs, they do have another, rather vital, use: without ear plugs it's likely that my mother and I would have come to blows long ago. The trick, I have...

Snore Calm Foam Ear Plugs
Review of Snore Calm Foam Ear Plugs by
craigwstewart
Advantages: Can be reused making them good value for money. They are comfy and work well.
Disadvantages: Do not eliminate loud noise.
...~~~ INTRODUCTION ~~~
Allow me to paint a picture for you. I have lived in the comfort of my peaceful family home all my life until recently and I have moved out to go to university. Now, I am living in a building full of students with cardboard walls. OK, not quite cardboard but when you are trying to get to sleep it sure sounds like it. Anyway, there is always one - one person who can't talk quietly at one o'clock on the morning when I decide to have an early night. I am almost asleep and then all of a sudden, all I hear is talking. Firstly, I decide to lie and hope she "shuts up" soon. Like that was going to happen. So after a little while, it's time to get up and find those ear plugs! And on that note, brings us on nicely to the review.
~~~ WHAT ARE THEY? ~~~
Basically, these are things that go into the ear to prevent noise...
Just Plug and Play
Review of Gadgetshop Dance Mat 3 by
Barbsie
Advantages: See op
Disadvantages: See op
...you will have to add 4xAA batteries, which you will need to buy, since they are not supplied. These batteries go in to the power pack at the top of the dance mat, which is also where the power button is located. Once you have done this, you need to “hook” up the mat to the TV – this can be done in one of two ways – either use the SCART adaptor supplied to plug the mat into the back of the TV, or if like me, you have the Phono sockets (yellow/red/white ports) at the front of the TV, you can plug your mat straight in there. (Obviously putting the red lead into the red socket etc – although for some reason I only seem to need to plug in the yellow and white connectors (don’t ask me, I’m not very technical)). ANYWAY, once you have done this, turn on the TV, and press the power button on the Dance Mat – you will then need to hit the TV...
Topfield, Top Rank, Twin Tuners and TopUp TV Too
Review of Topfield TF5800T by
BNibbles
Advantages: Twin tuner flexibility. Good tech support with upgrades etc from toppy.org.uk forum
Disadvantages: A lot to learn, not helped by p***-poor manual
....
The rear panel has a daunting array of other connections. There are two SCART sockets, one for the TV and one for a VCR. The VCR socket can also 'pass-through' a signal, say from a Sky box, which is a boon if your TV's only got one SCART socket.
For TVs without any SCART lead, the Topfield can recreate a TV frequency signal (RF output), to which you then tune the TVs next spare channel.
There's also an s-video socket, most likely used by those that channel everything through an A/V amplifier, or home cinema set-up.
Sound is taken care of in one of three ways. Firstly, the SCART sockets carry it in stereo, then you've got two conventional 'phono' plugs also for analogue stereo, and finally, there's a digital optical output for connection to a home cinema amplifier.
More interestingly, there's also a USB 2.0 and 9-pin serial port...
Twin Cam System At Affordable Price
Review of Micromark Twin Security Camera by
penguin1052
Advantages: Great Value For Money
Disadvantages: Picture quality isn't the best
...These camera's use a standard CMOS lense so your not going to get the same type of picture quality as you would with CCD lenses.
However don't let that put you off. If you want a cheap budget twin camera system you do get good value for your money.
You get two camera's with audio, about 20m of cable for each camera, a switcher unit to display both cameras onto a standard tv or vcr and all the brackets and fixings you need, oh plus the power supply.
The units are really easy to set up and require no previous experience or electrical knowledge. Just fix the camera to the wall, run the cable back to the switcher, plug it all in to the mains and the tv or vcr and your up and running with your own CCTV system. See who's at your door or keep an eye on the kids or your car.
If you want to use it in low light i'd recommend having...
Bt Calypso 225 Twin
Review of BT Calypso 225 TWIN by
phoenix221984
Advantages: Easy to set up and use
Disadvantages: Not any that stand out
...I have had this phone for about a week or so and I think that its fantastic, I ordered it from BT's online shop when my old phone decided it had had enough. It set me back £109.99 but remember this is for two handsets not just one. I thought it seemed quite expensive but one of my friends has one and said that she had never had a problem so I thought I would take her word for it. It is in all honesty a really good set of handsets with some great features. It has been a few years since I have bought a landline phone and I was surprised at how far along they have come. My last one was very basic with very few features, these new ones are more like modern mobiles, I couldn't believe how much they have changed.
I bought the twin set so I got two handsets but from the same place you can buy a single handset for £69.99, set of three...
Three Times The Fragrance
Review of Ambi Pur 3Volution Plug In by
daylehall
Advantages: Can always smell it, good variety of fragrances
Disadvantages: Initially it can be expensive to buy holder
...I moved into my house four years ago and it has taken since then to totally redecorate and get the house looking how I want it. Since the house is now exactly how I wanted it, I like to try and take a pride in its appearance. One way I do this, is to make sure my house always smells nice.
I have tried various plug ins and found them all to do their job but I have to admit to being quite interested in the new Ambi Pur 3volution when I saw an advert on the TV for it.
What Is 3volution?
Ambi Pur 3Volution is similar to all the other plug in air fresheners on the market except that this one has three fragrances instead of just the one. The idea is that our noses become used to just one smell so with other plug in air fresheners, after a while, you tend not to notice the smell of them in the room. With Ambi Pur 3volution, because...
Hear No Evil
Review of Boots Soft Disposable Ear Plugs by
LostWitness
Advantages: Easy to use, reasonably effective
Disadvantages: They slip oout, they don't cut out all the noise
...One thing that I really can’t stand about this here body of mine is that he’s a very light sleeper, bless him. If I’m in a hotel, and somebody farts in the room above me, it’ll probably wake me up. So passing traffic, drunken hooligans, noisy air-conditioning systems and low flying aircraft really don’t have to try very hard at all. My body is also a creature of habit and when he’s not in his own bed, he finds it even harder to get to sleep and stay there. So he needs all the help he can get.
Given that I probably spend 40% of my life in hotel rooms these days, I’ve now reached the stage when I know exactly what I need to carry with me at all times. One of these “essentials” is a pair of ear plugs. It’s my only defence against the growing conspiracy to keep me awake, you see...
Silence Is Golden
Review of Boots Soft Disposable Ear Plugs by
MALU
Advantages: you can sleep better
Disadvantages: not all noises are shut out
...I´d like to quote a comment I found on an op on ear plugs: ´I figure there isn't a lot you can say about earplugs!´
Wrong! Never despise or deride the small things. One of the best minds in Italy, a professor of Philosophy at the University of Florence, sees earplugs among the greatest inventions of humankind. So there!
What can these inconspicuous thingies achieve?
- Save money
Imagine a couple with one snoring partner. At home they´ve got separate bedrooms in order not to endanger the other partner´s well-being and happiness. What when they go on holiday? They need two single rooms which combined cost more than a double room (and - as every traveller knows - are invariably situated beside the lift or the toilets or face the backyard or all things together).
- Save marriages
What do people do who can´t afford two...
