Review of Renault Twingo 1.2 by
wmspillett
Advantages: Looks, economy, reliability, fun
Disadvantages: Insurance issues, jealousy
...There are plenty of sensible, intelligent reasons to own a Twingo. She is virtually non-petroholic, and the Clio-sourced engine (1996 onwards) is very hard to break.
Twingo is amazing fun to drive, the true spritual successor to Alec Issigonis's Mini. Steering is light and precise, the manual five-speed gearbox effortless to use. She is the perfect town car, but in 1149cc form also a surprisingly good motorway car. Mine regularly runs from Kent to he Côte d'Azur without problem.
The interior space for a car of this size has to be seen to be believed. The rear seat slides back and forth, offering a choice of a boot bigger than the Clio's or more legroom than the Laguna and Safrane models. From the driver's seat, the swept-forward windscreen gives Twingo the feel of a car much larger, and the pillars are not obstructive (although you...

Fun & Fiesty
Review of Renault Twingo 1.2 by
littleelf
Advantages: Fun, Looks good and practical
Disadvantages: No basic model,
...New Renault Twingo was launched here in september and it was a long time coming the car itself looks completely different to the original and is all round a slightly larger car. Dont get me wrong, though, it does look good. More sporty looking as Renault have aimed it at the younger market.
Sadly only two specifications have been brought to this country. 1.2 16V 75 HP Dynamique and the 1.2 TCE 100 HP GT.
The model I drove was the GT this 1.2 TCE 100 HP engine works very well in the New Clio but as the New Twingo is obviously smaller and lighter the drive is Fun to say the least but it you feel it runs out of revs and before you know it your in the red and changing quickly into second. It feels and looks sporty with Extra tinted rear glass, Silver rear spoiler silver door mirrors and a choice of exterior stikers to personalise your...

THE LADIES PRIDE AND JOY
Review of Renault Twingo 1.3 by
thingywhatsit
Advantages: Superb Car, everything for the lady.
Disadvantages: None that I can think of
...I have rethought this opinion since I wrote it, and since driving the equivalent Renault Clio. The comparison between the two cars was so noteable that I thought that I should mention it here on Ciao.
When I bought the Twingo, I was very impressed with its features :
Tinted Glass
Power Steering
Airbags
Fuel Injection
Electric mirrors.
Fold down back seat.
The gears are great to change, and the fifth gear is super for long runs, as well as on country roads. The braking system is superb, and has never ever let me down.
I find that the Twingo is superb for all my needs and not only that, it handles superbly compared to the Clio. The steering is precise and the most important feature for me is the visibility which is so good that I need never worry about blind spots. This car does not have them.
The shape of the car...

Loads of fun at a price
Review of Renault Twingo 1.2 by
MuratM
Advantages: Huge fun, versatility, economy, affection
Disadvantages: Unstable, lack of feel, weak mechanics
...I bought a 1997 poppy red Twingo 1.2 MPI with full range equipment (all the goodies) when the Twingo was vogue at its best for my wife on her birthday.
My wife instantly fell in love with her B-day gift. The cute little rascal was really loveable. My wife named it "croaky" after the toad-like looks of the hood and headlights.
We gave it away after we both drove it for a staggering 225,000 kms. (Mind you; the engine had still a lot to go before overhaul)
* * * Body :
The cute little-big design gives the illusion that the car is a tiny micro. But when you get into it, you suddenly find out that the car is a shrinked MPV but not a micro three door.
The body is sound, especially the A and C pillars are really tough. The B pillar is also tough but is compromised by the door opening. If only the doors were on the top, the car...

The best little car around
Review of Renault Twingo 1.2 by
KMDEAL
Advantages: affordable tun, Comfortable interior
Disadvantages: small boot space
...I have owned my Twingo for a month now, I would really recommend for ladies as a first car who do alot of travelling. The interior is fantastic and seating very comfortable if you commute too and from work.
The appearance of the car is appealing, it looks modern but a small perfect car for us ladies.
The running costs are great to as it is only 1.2 it is very effictient with petrol. Also with it being a small car it is reasonable cheap to tax aswel so if you are looking for something that is cheap to run this could ideal.
The display inside does throw you to begin with as in is in the centre but you ge used to it after a while, I now find this a nice feacture and feel more contious of what speed i am travelling.
If you ar looking for a car withloads of boot spac this carisnt for you. The boot isnt too big.
Overall i...

TEST DRIVE A SARDINE CAN.
Review of Renault Clio 1.2 by
thingywhatsit
Advantages: Small and economical.
Disadvantages: Small car feel.
...I have had this car now for several days, and normally a car does not impress me or make me form an opinion in such a short time, although this one is different.
I am accustomed to Renault cars and my own car is a Renault Twingo. It is in the garage and I have been given the Renault Clio 1.2 as a car to use whilst mine is in for repair. I really do have strong views on this car, and thought that I should write an opinion because it will help someone make the right decision.
This car is a 1.2 the same as the Twingo, and therefore I feel that its driveability should be similar. It is economical the same as the Twingo, but the driving experience is much less than I am used to with a Renault. The car stalls easily. The security locking system is loud, and altogether, the feeling that you get driving this car is that you...

Pangea falls apart...
Review of Renault Kangoo 1.4 by
MuratM
Advantages: Reasonable price, versatility, reliable
Disadvantages: Poor performer, erratic drive attitude, noisy
...As most of you are well aware, the Kangoo is the realised version of the concept car Pangea, named after the prehistoric continent where all the present continents were in one piece. (Remember ? That weird car with a permanent trailer hooked to its tail)
As soon as our family doc told us that our baby daughter decided to arrive, we started looking for more space and of course added safety. So the 2-month painful search started.
As we had Renault' s for both of our family cars (a Twingo and a Megane) Our first stop was our Renault dealer. After all, Renault's are cheap in Turkiye since they are made here...
*** Looks and Body :
My wife hated the Kangoo' s looks. I was half neutral and half hateful. That was why I decided to give it a chance.
So our dealer gave us his own Kangoo 1.4l which he used for staff transportation...

CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN
Review of Karcher K 670 MS plus by
thingywhatsit
Advantages: Does what it says it does.
Disadvantages: Sometimes you get wet.
...Living in the middle of rural France, I find that the car gets filthy in Winter. There are all kinds of obstacles between me having a clean car, and not, like cow droppings, trails left from tractors, rain, etc., and all the nasty things that make my bright blue Twingo look dull and lifeless.
When I bought my power washer, I thought about all the uses that I would put it to. Cleaning the walls, cleaning lichen from the barn roof, cleaning the car, cleaning dirty welly boots, and I was totally confused by all the specs that were available for these wonderful machines that either do or do not clean the things that you want to clean.
An apologetic salesman showed me rather a lot of Karcher cleaners and I was baffled about the choice. I had no idea what the "bar" reference was all about as most of us don't but the salesman explained...

The ones with vinegar, very hard to find in France…

Age Will Wither It
Review of Renault R5 Campus by
polydeuces
Advantages: Versatile, economical car
Disadvantages: Rust, rust, rust
...their current budget offering – the Twingo is not sold in the UK. The Renault 5 was very basic no satisfying clunk when you closed the doors or the boot just a tinny clang. It ran on skinny tyres but was for its day very economical at over 40mpg.
Inside there was enough elbow room and leg room for four passengers in comfort though the soft wallowing ride meant there was a little too much movement on the plastic seats to relax. The car seats though were very comfortable probably due to being a little wider than present day car seats. The rear seats folded down to give a large amount of space through the wide opening rear hatch. Enough space at times for furniture, Christmas trees, garden rubbish.
During our period of ownership the car was very reliable, never letting us down once. Whilst neighbours struggled to get their Austin 1100s...
