Twinings Green Tea - Health in a Cup
Review of Twinings Green Tea Cranberry by
Spottydog11
Advantages: V. Healthy, good for you, no calories, tasty, different
Disadvantages: None
...The health benefits of green tea are now widely known. It contains a natural source of antioxidants which helps protect the body from free radicals. Recent medical research shows that regular green tea drinkers may have lower chances of heart disease and developing certain types of cancer. Other unproven scientific benefits also include stopping diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Green tea is also shown to speed up your metabolism and can help with weight loss.
I love my cup of tea so with all this in mind I decided to look for some green tea. I didn't want to drink it all the time but in the evenings I wanted something a bit lighter than heavy black tea and I also wanted to cut down my daily intake so I happened upon the Twinings range of green teas. Cranberry is my favourite so I am reviewing this one but others...

Twinings Lotus Green Tea
Review of Twinings Lotus Green Tea by
Zedex
Advantages: A slightly different flavour to normal green tea
Disadvantages: A bit sickly, not flavoursome enough
...I'm on a tea roll.
Having tried and loved Twinings Earl Grey Green Tea, I saw their Lotus green tea in the supermarket and thought I'd give it a go. It's marketed as "delicately flavoured with delicious orange" so I thought, given the overpoweringly refreshing flavour of their earl grey green tea, that this would be similar but only orange instead of earl grey. I was wrong.
You get 20 t-bags in a 50g lime green cardboard box, which has similar packaging to their fruity herbal teas. This costs £1.09 from Tescos, and you can get it at other supermarkets and also health food stores like Holland and Barrett. The ingredients are: Green Tea, Orange Flavouring, Lotus Flower Heads (1%)
You brew the tea for 2 mins (any more makes it bitter, the box says, which is true) and you don't add milk.
It's not disgusting, don't get me wrong...

Go green for the good of your health
Review of Twinings Green Tea and Lemon by
Kingseany
Advantages: Many health benefits, tastes ok
Disadvantages: None yet, I've not turned green or anything
...Tea has been drunk for over 4000 years, so there must be something in it. Whether it has all the healing and repairing properties the ancient peoples believed can be debatable, but none-the-less, we do seem to like a good cuppa. Up until recently I had always stuck to the familiar black teas, Twinings, Lipton, and even Tetley at times. I have experimented with flavoured teas, Blackcurrant, Forest Fruits and the like for a change, and now I've also discovered Green Tea.
THE SCIENCE
************
You can skip this bit if you already know all about the benefits of Green Tea, otherwise, read on. Green Tea is still a fairly new discovery for many, but is growing in popularity for it's possible positive effects on your health. This is due to the fact that it contains some pretty powerful constituents, including polyphenols, carotenoids...

Green and Grey - though actually it's gold!
Review of Twinings Earl Grey Green Tea by
Odysseus4
Advantages: Healthy drink
Disadvantages: A problem if you don't like Earl Grey
...Well - I am forever it seems trying to lose some weight and now suffering from a stress related condition as well. So my doctor who is a very sensible lady and believes in treating the whole body not just one symptom, suggested I try (amongst other things) drinking green tea. Apparently it should help get rid of toxins and is relaxing too.
Now I have tried green tea in the past and frankly it made me feel sick, so I was not pleased with the suggestion. Then quite by accident in Tesco I noticed that Twinings did an Earl Grey version of green tea. Wow I thought I love Earl Grey tea - itself of course an acquired taste perhaps. So I bought a pack - can't remember the price then but Tesco currently sell it for £1.18. This is for a 20 tea bag pack - 50g - see illustration.
It's a rather attractive box actually a light almost...

Earl Grey Green Tea
Review of Twinings Earl Grey Green Tea by
Zedex
Advantages: Refreshing taste, Earl Grey taste without the high caffeine
Disadvantages: None
...Given that I can't drink conventional tea anymore (see my Clipper Green Tea op), I've discovered green tea and have been trying different varieties.
This one caught my eye in a teashop I was in on a visit to Durham, and I've been buying it ever since. I think it's relatively new on the market, and I can't find it on Twinings own webpage, but it is available in most supermarkets (Tescos have it) and also health shops like Holland and Barrett.
It comes in a bright (lime) green cardboard box, with 20 t-bags in it. It's in a similar design to Twinings fruit herbal teas if you know what they look like. It's green tea but flavoured with bergamot, which is the earl grey flavouring.
To me, it's great as it's like drinking earl grey tea (my fave) but without the heaviness of normal tea, and with much less caffeine.
You brew it for 2...

Green Tea Magic!
Review of Twinings Green Tea Pineapple & Grapefruit by
untouchable116
Advantages: Rich in antioxidants, refreshing alternative to black tea.
Disadvantages: Takes a bit of getting used to!
...What is Green Tea?
Green Tea is made from the leaf of the Camellia sinensis - the same plant from which regular black tea is derived. However, whilst black tea is fermented before it's dried out, green tea is heated prior to rolling which kills enzymes in the leaf and prevents oxidation taking place thus the leaf retains its green colour. Green tea has been revered in China for over 4500 years and eventually came to Britain in the late 17th century.
I've always been fan of green tea's however; it was more for the fact that it was good for you as opposed to drinking it because I liked the taste! Twinings must have read my mind when they created their flavoured green tea range which includes Pear & Apple, Jasmine, Orange & Lotus Flower and of course my favourite Pineapple and Grapefruit! This is an exotic and mouth...

A More palatable Green Tea Blend
Review of Twinings Pear and Apple Green Tea Bags by
Zmugzy
Advantages: Health benefits
Disadvantages: None
...Green tea is made by briefly steaming the just harvested leaves, rendering them soft and pliable and preventing them from fermenting or changing colour. After steaming, the leaves are rolled, then spread out and "fired" (dried with hot air or pan-fried in a wok) until they are crisp. This produces a greenish-yellow tea with a slightly astringent flavour which closely resembles the taste of the fresh leaf.
I find the Twinings green tea varieties more fully flavoured than their other herbal and fruit teas. But then again green tea is a very strong flavoured drink. In this blend apple and pear have been added in order to reduce some of the bitterness of the green tea. The result is refreshing brew with just a hint of apple and pear. I do find this combination much more palatable than drinking ordinary plain green tea. The colour should...

TWININGS PURE PEPPERMINT TEA
Review of Twinings Pure Peppermint Teabags by
Jeser
Advantages: Greatly refreshing and good for your health
Disadvantages: None
...I always consume these regulary after a big meal and they are very pleasing.
*GOOD HEALTH BENEFITS*
They are freely available at all your local health shops, i.e Holland & Barret and many of your local supermarkets. They are very easy to make like normal tea. Pour the boiling water directly over the bag in a mug and brew for 5-6 minutes for very best results, stir and drink. They have a very cool minty refreshing taste. Not only are they great served hot but also cold over ice as a summer cooler.
They are great for settling the stomach after a big meal and are totally caffiene free.
I have also found them great sweetened with a teaspoon of honey in.
I have found Twinings peppermint great for all the above reasons.

They come in a green leave style box saying Twinings Pure Peppermint Teabags...

The leaves that fell into my cup
Review of Twinings Green Tea Cranberry by
sottovoce82
Advantages: Not expensive, healthy
Disadvantages: Not 100% natural, not caffeine free
...Twinings Green Cranberry 20 Teabags 50g
When I was young I used to ask my sister (9 years older than me) to tell me two stories; an old and short one, followed by a new and long one. What I mean by an old story is one that I already know, but why? Psychiatrists say it's the child's way of feeling safe. One of these short stories used to be the famous legend of green tea. It's simply the legend which says that a certain Chinese emperor used to drink boiling water, but one day some leaves fell into his cup; he enjoyed the flavour and this made him drink green tea thereafter. I have to admit that I felt happy when I saw this legend mentioned on the Twinings box I'm reviewing, specially that sis lives far away from me now.
This box of Twinings contains in addition to Chinese green tea not only 1% cranberry pieces, but also...
