...INTRODUCTION I have phases of reading. I always have at least one book on the go, but sometimes reading gets pushed to the back of the queue. First it was the Olympics, then a rather dull Pratchett book that prioritised other things over reading. However, this week, the situation has been reversed. I have been going to bed early to read, neglecting Ciao and ignoring emails. Why? I have been reading another Martina Cole novel. This one was Two Women and – like with all her books I have read – it is so easy to get hooked! Cole’s books often follow familiar themes – gangland murders, prostitution, abused women, horrific violence – and some of these are present in this novel too, but overall, I found Two Women to be the LEAST violent of her books that I have read. ...enlighten men? ~~ Erm, I doubt it but it does convey the message that guys should not use women for their own selfish gain and should take into account their feelings, needs and wishes (if only!) But apart from that, it doesn’t really shed much light on what women want. However (and this is directed at the women reading) the fact that you’ve managed to drag your guy along to see what has been billed a "chick flick", means that he is probably not too bad anyway! As I have said before, I did enjoy it but I have to say that I found the storyline to be a bit weaker that I thought it would be. The film centred around Gibson finding out what his female work colleagues and acquaintances really thought about him which, although funny, perhaps needed a bit of diversification. Advantages: A good, solid plan which is fairly easy to implement and that doesn't require a degree in maths and science to follow.
Disadvantages: Just a niggle over the author's patriotism

...is delightfully refreshing (especially for someone with eating issues), nor does she suggest a seemingly impossible target weight (you just pick a target where you are most comfortable). However, if you want statistics, here's one to chew over: France doesn't have anywhere near the level of obesity that Britain has. WHY DON'T FRENCH WOMEN GET FAT THEN? So why are French women typically svelte? I'm tempted to say that smoking is a huge factor, but having seen many overweight smokers makes it clear to me that one cannot rely on the minute increase in metabolism or suppression of appetite to lose weight. The most obvious factor is...*drumroll*... French women love their food. "But I love my food!" I wailed as I munched through a packet of crisps and some shop-bought cakes. ..., no not a little tiddle, something far worse! Without giving the whole plot away which is what I'm re- known for, I'll try to carry on! Basically, after Nicks little accident, he learns that he can hear what women think, after a little visit to Nicks shrink, he finds that he has a gift that no other man has, he has to make the most of it! Going back to Nick losing his promotion to fellow women friend Darcy, Nick learns that if he can hear Darcys ideas that she thinks, he can use them himself to make him look the better of the two! The plan works, for a while anyway, as usual a movie like this wouldn't be complete without a whirl wind romance, Nick starts to fall for work rival Darcy, worse yet, she starts to fall for him too! It’s amazing to think she’d never written a screenplay before, and this was her first attempt. It’s simply outstanding! She’s made a classic on her first attempt. You can simply tell when a film is a classic, and has wonderful writing when people quote from it. I remember most of the lines from the line and just love to watch it over and over and remember. ..., and delve into these women’s lives. In the prologue, it describes Virginia's suicide thoroughly. Cunningham made up Mrs Brown and Mrs Dalloway, the two other characters in his book, but Virginia was a real person, who breathed the same air as all of us. She walked this earth, and although he didn't see her with his own eyes, what Virginia did and went through, you feel he knew by reading her novels and feeling her pain and anguish, and researching her life so thoroughly. The writing is thorough in Mrs Brown and Mrs Dalloway’s parts, but in Mrs Woolf’s it’s exceptional. It’s just so poignant and touching and different. His love is apparent. He makes it clear to us, that Virginia didn't want to kill herself. Death becomes an issue once again. She had "headaches" for many years. I think, as Cunningham suggested... Read review

...I chose to publish this one today as it was aired on BBC1 last night. I chose to watch this one because it had a sexy looking case; half of Sharon Stone's face merged with the face of Isabelle Adjani with Chazz Palminteri in the background. There is really nothing else on the cover other than the title and the tag line, "Two women. One man. The combination can be murder.", the rest is just black. With very little idea as to what the film was about from the front cover I decided the read the synopsis on the back and was instantly interested. I was a little hesitant though as I thought that films that you would think would be good are usually awful. Nevermind eh?! ...’s amazement, his boss has recruited Darcy Maguire to be the director feeling that a woman will be able to get into the ‘women’s psyche’ better than a womanizing man. Darcy Maguire is a tough and talented person who expects a rough ride from Nick. Her first assignment is to give out a box of women’s items, such as lipstick, bra, wax for the legs etc and ask for ideas. Meanwhile, Nick’s ex wife is getting married and Nick’s fifteen-year-old daughter is staying for two weeks. She is a typical rebellious teenager who is angry that her father hasn’t really bothered with her in fifteen years. Nick decides to try and be a woman by trying on the products.
