Paramount's Classic U.S Sitcom

Advantages: The great performances of Ted Danson & Shelley Long
Disadvantages: None!

...Cheers very first season premiered on primetime U.S T.V in 1982. Little did people know that this series set in Boston's most famous bar would become such a phenomenon that would last for 11 years and stretch to an impressive 270 episode run. Cheers was deservedly showered with many awards and was still on top when the show sadly ended in 1993 (with the final episode bringing in record viewing figures for the series). I was merely 2 years old when Cheers first swung into action. Of todays new generation of U.S sitcoms, Will And Grace (1999 -) and Friends (1994 - 2004) rank as my all-time favourites. Cheers is still near at the top of my list as the show is like fine wine - has gotten better with age! Obviously the clothes and hairstyles instantly date the series but overlooking that obvious fact Cheers still plays extremely well...

Advantages: Inspirational, moving, powerful, one of the most accurate portrayals of the Navy
Disadvantages: Hardly anything, aside from some corny dialogue

...This book had a profound effect on myself and my housemates at the time of reading. Quite simply the book is about the spiralling decent of a (semi) normal guy into violent madness. Seen through the eyes of it's protagonist, we start the book learning about a somewhat repulsive individual (a 'master of the universe' for all you Tom Woolfe fans out there) - A man who makes a lot of money, and inhabits a maelstrom of fine living and fast women. He is one of the brokers of money and power spewed out by the Reagan administration of the U.S.A. in the 80's. This man although privileged is a total animal, treating everyone around him as sub-human - objects to be used and discarded. Nowhere is this clearer than in his use of, and attitude to prostitutes. Soon enough the mental strain and pressure in his life become too much...

BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM (U.S VERSION)

Advantages: Hilarious in places!
Disadvantages: A few too many cliches and vomit-worthy slushy bits!

...a popular teen comedy actress in the U.S. In my opinion, she is perfect for this type of film. She has excellent timing, bags of confidence and really has done a terrific job in this film. The role of Viola Hastings was a tough one, because she had to spend a large part of it dressed as boy, complete with false eyebrows, wig, muscle suit and binding (Ow!). She made a marvelous and hilarious effort of playing a girl dressed as a boy, who was struggling with her emotions!
