Advantages: A great concert with surprisingly good special features.

...If you think U2's just about 'Vertigo' and 'Beautiful Day', buy this. Visually and sonically, this DVD is stunning. For a start, the stage set is overblown and ridiculous - a forty-foot lemon, a huge McDonald's-style arch, and so on - but the music is more than big enough to take it on, especially given the huge improvement in the remastered sound. Let me take a quick tour round some of the highlights. The opener, Mofo, will blow your mind if you've not heard this sort of thing from U2 before - in fact, even if you have, the Mexico City version is arguably one of the best. A totally stripped-down Sunday Bloody Sunday solo by The Edge is just one example of the reinvention that the warhorses of the U2 setlist have undergone. ...with such gusto he fails to do so! He should have belted out the first few lines. As the track progresses Bono seems to put more into it. For me it needs to be slightly more in your face -but I can imagine it goes down well live in a big stadium as can be seen in the live version of the track on the 1988 album Rattle and Hum. the version on rattle and Hum does show this track off to it's full potential with the audience singing along. Pride is not an overtly political song, it's more subtle then say the previously mentioned "Sunday Bloody Sunday" but it is a tribute to the equal rights activist Martin Luther King jr. U2 chart within the lyrics a man who achieved so much but in a peaceful way. King was to be murdered on the 4th April 1968.With it's simplistic lyrics it is indeed a fitting tribute to a man who did so much in his life to gain equality... Read review

...at times, this sends shivers down my spine every time. It has been my favourite song for a few years now and I had the pleasure of seeing it live this summer at Slane, and I can honestly say it was one of the greatest moments of my life. Have any of you seen your favourite song live? Comment if you have, I'd like to hear how it was for you, so to speak! Anyway on to number two: Bad From the album The Unforgettable Fire and Live on Wide Awake In America Has there ever been a less accurate title? I mean, it's not like The Beatles went around calling their songs Shite or Fucking Awful, is it? But anyway, this song is truly beautiful. Soulful vocals backed by the slightest of guitars, this is a true epic. ...I know I haven't written for a long time. It's not that I don't want to or that I lack inspiration. I haven't given up the site either because I am regularly among you. But the thing is : when I want to write on a topic (health & beauty is my favourite one), I realize that another member has already done it, and in a great way so I have to think of something else. Lately, when going through the catalogue of the site, I saw that nobody had been inspired by this U2 DVD so far, I was eager to start my review. ...I have had the pleasure of seeing u2 in concert three times now.I have been an avid fan of their music for roughly 15 years and watched as the band grew into what i consider the finest rock group of the last two decades.Its easy to sum u2 up with words like.brilliant,genius,entertaining and so on.I believe that you dont have to be a follower to appreciate the band and what they have achieved.They are probably the only band i know that can change their style of music to match the changing rock and pop culture as the years pass by. Of course they have political views and they are well documented in their songs.nonetheless i will review this dvd as i see it and let you make up your own minds. ...By chance I caught this show on BBC1 on few years ago late at night with the curtains drawn and immediately noted it down as something I simply had to own. Everyone with internet access must have heard of U2 at some stage be it via their multi-million selling albums, the limited edition i-pods or Bono's endless work for the potless in Africa so I won't go into an indepth analysis of who the group are or of their achievements over the 20 odd years they have been performing. Needless to say, they are global superstars and put on quite possibly the greatest shows of our time. The DVD cost me £15.99 from HMV last year and it is widely availble across the interweb from various shops and stores. Flanagan understands the hyperbolic, media-heavy nature of Zoo TV cannot be explained without examining CNN's live coverage of the Gulf War, and the evolving U2 of the 1990s can't be understood until the frank, reverent temperament of its 1980s counterpart is detailed. While Flanagan deftly tackles these grand issues, his book also finds ample time for intimacy. The first vocal performance of 'Stay (Faraway, So Close!)' is beautifully described as Bono improvises lyrics and melodies on the studio couch, asking both the author and producer Flood for advice. Adam's problems with alcohol are tastefully dealt with, while Larry's supposed injection of bulls blood... Read review

...is in and full of junk you'll understand the fact I remained seated but distinctly un calm. Best friend was not rang at near midnight just in case I woke her up. Some people, harbour ambitions to swim with dolphins, take tea in the Sahara, cover Brad Pitt in squirty cream……Abseil down sky scrappers, ride every Coaster in the world -even the big scary one's, score with Del Piero, max out their credit card in some fine department store. One of mine was to finally see U2 play live and see Bono sing With or Without You. At nearly Midnight last Friday I was on the road to fulfilling at least part of that ambition. Bono had just not break with tradition and ditch With or Without You was all I was thinking....... ...The Joshua Tree released in 1987 is widely acclaimed as the album that finally gave U2 their ticket to superstardom status. Many have proclaimed this album as THE album of the mid 80's,with this album U2 could do no wrong. The Joshua Tree was to show the world that U2 had homed their skills into a more sophisticated sound. The Joshua Tree adds to their unique rock sound a mixture of blues and folk influences in an album, that pays homage to many overtly political issues as well as looking at finding inner spirituality. Gone is the rawness of preceding albums. What The Joshua Tree does is serve up a rich cocktail of different sounds. The politic message is still there but in a more subtler form. What you have to remember is that The Joshua Tree was recorded in the aftermath of Live aid and the famine in Ethiopia of the mid 80's... Read review
