...I know I haven't written for a long time. It's not that I don't want to or that I lack inspiration. I haven't given up the site either because I am regularly among you. But the thing is : when I want to write on a topic (health & beauty is my favourite one), I realize that another member has already done it, and in a great way so I have to think of something else. Lately, when going through the catalogue of the site, I saw that nobody had been inspired by this U2 DVD so far, I was eager to start my review. I won't tell you the story of the Irish band as I guess you already know it, or at least you've heard of it. As far as I am concerned, I've heard of the band for the first time when I was ten. ...First a note on the location of the opinion. I apologise, because I couldn't think of anywhere to put this and I really wanted people to see it. So please rate according to the opinion and not location. Thanks. An extremley difficult task, but I've managed to narrow down my top 10 U2 songs to this fine list of songs. I've probably made horrible exclusions and the order is thrown together but I hope it makes for interesting reading. So as to completely eliminate suspense we'll start with the number one song, called, appropriately enough: One From the album Achtung Baby Quite simply the best song ever (well in my little world anyway). ...What can be said about U2 that hasn't already been said in thousands of column inches in the musical press? From humble beginnings in the pubs and clubs of their native Dublin the band were to become iconic stars who can sell out stadiums in minutes! Most people if you ask them could name at least one U2 track such is their fame.More than likely it would be one of the tracks on the 1998 Best of U2 1980-1990 CD U2 weren't a band in the 80's I was particularly in to. I own a couple of their albums from this era namely War,The Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum. But what appealed to me about this CD was the fact it charted the bands development from the humble beginnings of Boy released in 1980 to their near super stardom which allowed them to release on the back of the success of the Joshua Tree the rather higgledy piggledy album... Advantages: Involving, well written, tons of info for casual and longterm fans

...This 8th studio album release from U2, heralds "all that is passable and dispensable", as according to guitarist THE EDGE (Dave Evans), but in spite of that - still it held some certain elements that are distinctly U 2 ... a s the old saying goes "Old habits die hard"; U2's lyrics are not far from the territory of deep analytical cynicism and dark gloomy ideological musings. Perhaps why is this so is because that it would have to do with the band's stance as a christian band from their conceptualization back in the early 80's, where they started out as a young self-proclaimed christian band from Ireland, who got signed with Island records from winning a band contest that gained them to sign up a contract with the label. ...Many people talk about the nonsense of U2, and how they are no way as good as before. But, if you listen to the album as a collection of songs, rather than as an extension of all the media hype, I find it quite a different picture... album: a. A set of phonograph records stored together in jackets under one binding. , b. The holder for such records. , c. One or more 12-inch long-playing records in a slipcase., d. A phonograph record., e. A recording of different musical pieces. So, instead of slagging the band, or saying their old gits, I'd like to talk about the music... Track One: Beautiful Day A lovely, peaceful introduction, with melodic rock background similar to that of Bad and With or Without You (from Joshua Tree...). The track builds up tension, then rocks out, releasing it. Then builds it up in a wave like motion... Read review

...Browsing Ebay as you do, I can across a very odd phenomena - U2 tickets for 99p a pair and 2 hours to go before the auction closed. Ok the non U2 fans will be saying too right too! But to me I thought this a bit odd. After typing in the words U2 Manchester - I was greeted by 1200 auction most for pairs of tickets and most only receiving bids in the closing stages of the auction. A garbled phone called to the best friend and a budget was set. Mass bidding proceeded, out bid at the last minute due to a rather low budget followed. One last ditch attempt where the budget was blown and with 30 seconds to go I hit the bid icon, with 24 seconds to go I was still winning, again at 4 second, when the you have won sign came up on the auction I screamed and would have danced around the room but if you've seen how small the room my computer... Advantages: A great album

...The Joshua Tree released in 1987 is widely acclaimed as the album that finally gave U2 their ticket to superstardom status. Many have proclaimed this album as THE album of the mid 80's,with this album U2 could do no wrong. The Joshua Tree was to show the world that U2 had homed their skills into a more sophisticated sound. The Joshua Tree adds to their unique rock sound a mixture of blues and folk influences in an album, that pays homage to many overtly political issues as well as looking at finding inner spirituality. Gone is the rawness of preceding albums. What The Joshua Tree does is serve up a rich cocktail of different sounds. The politic message is still there but in a more subtler form. What you have to remember is that The Joshua Tree was recorded in the aftermath of Live aid and the famine in Ethiopia of the mid 80's... Read review

...I know it is long but just grab a coffee and a seat. One of the greatest bands ever............. Probably one of the best, if not the best live acts around...... This is exactly what I expected. This was my first real concert at the age of 25 and I had parted with about £112 for two tickets. I had taken a half-day in the afternoon from work and the following morning as well. I packed the kids and dog off to the in-laws and I was really expecting a show case, especially as we had booked the tickets about 5 months ago. Driving through to Glasgow with the U2 songs belting out the car the excitement was really starting to build, especially seeing all the other fans near the stadium. But it was only 2:30 and the doors didn't open until 4:00. So we dump the car and head off into the town centre for some food. We return to Hampden... Read review

...◄ Introduction ► I must admit that I'm the kind of person who tends to buy a CD, almost on impulse, often having only heard one of the songs from the album, and sometimes not even fully sure if I like it. Well, U2's "how to dismantle an atomic bomb" is possibly the best example of this currently in my CD collection. I purchased this album a while ago, based on my liking on the immensely popular hit single "Vertigo," only to find that a while after, I was utterly sick of its tendency to be over played on the radio, to the point where I no longer found any enjoyment in listening to it. Luckily for me, the rest of the album was to be nothing like the first single, and every track, much slower, and more enjoyable to listen to.
