Advantages: A great live album Disadvantages: A little short
...I have recently replaced some of my old vinyl albums with the CD versions, and whilst browsing through my albums I came across U2 - Under A Blood Sky and instantly was transported back to 1983, remembering when I received this album for Christmas with its glowing red cover, and I played it over and over.
I ordered a remastered copy on CD and have gave it a few listens since it arrived, remembering just why I loved it so much back in the 80's.
Under A Blood Red Sky is a live album recorded on the bands 'War' tour, and features eight tracks recorded at Red Rocks Amphitheatre Colorado, Boston Massachusetts, and St Goarshausen, Germany between May and August 1983.
The title "Under A Blood Red Sky" is taken from the lyrics of the song "New Year's Day", from the 'War' album.
Not long after the live album release, a concert video was...
Advantages: Fantastic performances, amazing set design, brilliant music Disadvantages: Pricey, english crowds suck, somewhat dodgy accoustics, support acts
...allowing people to bid on "special" tickets which would afford them access to these standing areas which negated the need to queue for 18 hours to be near the stage because a very limited number (300) were sold. Red Zone ticket holders were also treated to their own toilet block, pre-show seating, a dedicated refreshment section and loads of elbow room. My Red Zone tickets cost me £150 each and Ticket Thief (whoops, I mean "Master") were not allowed to rob me for a handling fee. Best of all, the entire proceeds from my ticket fee are donated from the band directly to the (Red) charity and I got a place on the rail next to the catwalk.
The Setlist
A mixture of old and new which pleases fans but tends to confuse those unfamiliar with U2's album tracks. Personally I was knew all the tracks and was happy to sing along although I...

Review of U2 360 Tour 2009
...About time I did a review on the legendary, Irish band that is U2! For fans of U2 who assume they already know everything about them, read on, there may just be a few surprises!
It all started back in highschool when an ad was placed on a bulletin board looking for musicans to start a band. The ad was placed by Larry Mullen Jr.
Paul Hewson (Aka Bono), was the first to respond to the ad, claiming he could play guitar and sing, (neither of which he could do at the time)! Also responding to Larry's ad was bassist Adam Clayton. Later Dave Evens (Aka The Edge), showed up to "U2's" first gathering at Larry's house, and U2 were formed.
From their humble beginings U2 have went from strength to strength, with the release of some amazing albums and picking up awards along the way.
They have been awarded 'Grammys', 'Brit...

Review of U2
Advantages: More Great Songs both Live and in the Studio, proof that U2 could cut it with the best Disadvantages: None
...This album cam after U2's mega breakthroughs of "THe Unforgettable Fire" and "The Joshua Tree". It was accompanied by a film that caused a lot of ill will as the band came across as pompous and pretentious.
After the stadium rock of the previous albums this was a "back to the roots" excercise in which U2 toured America to discover their R'n'B and Soul influences. The album is part live and part studio and contains both old and new material.
The first single from the album was the incendiary "Desire", three chords, and three minutes of blistering rock, proving the band needed nothing but the absolute basics to sound absolutely awesome.
The album opens with a live cover of the Beatles "Helter Skelter" which is every bit as frightening as the original, especially with its associations with the Manson "family". This segues into...
Advantages: Easy to navigate, with lots of useful content Disadvantages: Oracle couldnt tell me what a Joshua Tree is
...By coincidence (given Ciao's recent problems and upheavals) this is my 200th op. Appropriate in some ways because the site is one of the best band sites I have seen. So to the op...
In my research for my opinion on "The Joshua Tree" album, I ventured on to U2's home site to find out what a Joshua Tree is and why the album was named thus. I didn't find out what I wanted to know but found one of the best constructed, most informative band sites I have ever seen. This place is a must for all U2 fans. I went for the LITE version as I have a slow BT line , so all information is based on the lite version:

Review of u2.com
Advantages: A great album Disadvantages: A couple of weak tracks
...The Joshua Tree released in 1987 is widely acclaimed as the album that finally gave U2 their ticket to superstardom status. Many have proclaimed this album as THE album of the mid 80's,with this album U2 could do no wrong. The Joshua Tree was to show the world that U2 had homed their skills into a more sophisticated sound. The Joshua Tree adds to their unique rock sound a mixture of blues and folk influences in an album, that pays homage to many overtly political issues as well as looking at finding inner spirituality. Gone is the rawness of preceding albums. What The Joshua Tree does is serve up a rich cocktail of different sounds. The politic message is still there but in a more subtler form. What you have to remember is that The Joshua Tree was recorded in the aftermath of Live aid and the famine in Ethiopia of the mid 80's...

Review of Joshua Tree, The - U2
Advantages: Involving, well written, tons of info for casual and longterm fans Disadvantages: Long (600 pages; not a disadvantage for me, but may be for some)
...Strategically speaking, 1995 was not a good year to publish a U2 biography. The band had released two albums in the previous four years, supporting the Billboard-topping releases with a massive, two-year tour stretching from Florida, USA, to Tokyo, Japan. U2 had won three consecutive Grammys, even beating out a sea of Seattle contenders for 1993's Alternative Music award. A string of memorable videos earned the group performances at the 1992 and 1993 MTV Video Music Awards, and relationships with the likes of Salman Rushdie, Naomi Campbell, Bill Clinton and Frank Sinatra kept U2 prominent in the tabloids.
For four years, U2 saturated its fans with albums, performances and public appearances, creating an environment in which any type of U2 propaganda could thrive. 1995, however, was a year of rest, a chance for U2 to enjoy a break...

Review of U2
Advantages: I Will Follow, Twillight, A Day Without Me Disadvantages: The Ocean, Another time Another Place
...Not been on ciao for ages, have recently got a load of cd's and dvd's, and i will try and review them in the coming months.
First Up is U2 - Boy, which was released in 1980, i got this as a birthday present and was suspicious at first, as everyone i know tells me that U2 only became good with "War". However after listening to it i have to say that everyone was wrong. Boy is a pretty good album and has some great tracks. However there are also some real stinkers.
Track by Track Reviews
1) I Will Follow - (3:36)
"I Will Follow" is an awesome song and a great opener to what would become one of the greatest bands of all time. To say their career started off with a bang is an under statment, maybe due to the advantage of hindsight. In my view this song is one of the best songs ever. The beat is mesmerizing and will have you...

Review of Boy - U2
Advantages: Sunday Blooody Sunday, thought provoking Disadvantages: some wek tracks, not for everyone's taste
...These last few years have been difficult and dark days to live through due to the events of September 11 2001, Al Queda (Sp), the hunt for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and more recently the car bombs going off in Istanbul. There were moments in the past few years due to the efforts of Bush, Blair and Hussein that World War 3 would ensue and destroy this planet. It is a terrifying thing to think about. I am sitting hear writing this review listening to U2?s third studio album War released in 1983. This album deals with War whether it be bomb in Northern Ireland or the much more serious advent of nuclear missiles and the casualties of war. We may be fighting Iraq and Afghanistan rather than Russia and Iran now but how relevant is this album to us here in 2003.

Review of War - U2
Advantages: Fantastically constructed songs, powered by moving lyrics Disadvantages: One breach in the high quality, but otherwise, none.
...◄ Introduction ►
I must admit that I'm the kind of person who tends to buy a CD, almost on impulse, often having only heard one of the songs from the album, and sometimes not even fully sure if I like it. Well, U2's "how to dismantle an atomic bomb" is possibly the best example of this currently in my CD collection.
I purchased this album a while ago, based on my liking on the immensely popular hit single "Vertigo," only to find that a while after, I was utterly sick of its tendency to be over played on the radio, to the point where I no longer found any enjoyment in listening to it. Luckily for me, the rest of the album was to be nothing like the first single, and every track, much slower, and more enjoyable to listen to. So, despite the manner in which this album was originally purchased, it remains one...
