...I had gone for several years without a USB stick at all, and I finally came to a point in my life where I required several for distributing a project I was working on. I had a look around for reasonably priced 4Gb USB sticks and I stumbled upon the SanDisk Cruzer Micro U3. I had recalled reading about U3 devices awhile back so I was quite interested to find out what they were. I discovered that U3 devices pretend to have a CD drive inside them so when you plug in the device it will install its drivers (as with any usb stick) and then it has the ability to autorun software. The software that comes with the USB stick allows certain programs to be installed on the stick, this is very useful as you can run programs and keep your settings saved on your usb stick so that they are not lost from computer to computer. ...more from the U3 web site at www.u3.com Sounds good but Vista is so different to XP under the bonnet, it stops U3 working. A new version of the U3 sofwtare has been released BUT the version on the stick doesn't and Verbatim's website (at the time of writing) hasn't got the new version available yet and you HAVE to download it from the people who made your USB stick due to possible firmware issues. The lack of U3 also stops you being able to use the password feature which is part of the U3 system if you're on Vista. Apart from that, it works well. It's fast for a USB stick and is available up to 4Gb in size so can carry a good chunk of your data, photos or whatever. ...2Go password manager. You can download more from the U3 web site at www.u3.com Sounds good but Windows Vista is so different to XP under the bonnet, it stops U3 working. ...How much memory does your mp3 player have? 1GB, 2GB? Did you pay more than £65 for it? If the answer to any of these questions is yes then you have been duped, drawn in my the marketing blurb of the huge multinationals and missed out on the Samsung YP-U3 4GB which at £65 comes in as the best mp3 player I have owned or had the pleasure to use. Available in 3 sizes, the Samsung YP-U3 is priced at £35, £50 and £65 for the 1, 2 and 4GB models respectively and while the smaller memory models are available in a range of bright and funky colours, the 4GB model which I opted for is like a Model T Ford, available in any colour as long as it is black. Like other mp3 players songs are downloaded from various online stores such as Napster and CDs can be burnt onto the memory. One very minor niggle is that iTunes isn't compatible with the YP-U3... Advantages: Small & Sleek design, Can store any file format

...OK, so I may be a bit bias as I have a MuVo2 & not an IPOD, but read on & decide for yourself! A couple of months ago I started looking for some personal audio that could play hours of music without me having to change CDs or anything (so I didn't have to have an endless supply of CDs in the office). I finally settled on a CD/MP3 player which allowed me to burn any songs I wanted onto a CD (fitting around 170 on a disc). However I only used this for a couple of months as I managed to win this MP3 player through 'Nuts' magazine (please don't call me that!). I have since looked at some prices & it can be found from £150 to £200 depending where you look. The MuVo2 4GB has the same memory as the apple ipod mini. It weighs the same as a small mobile phone (about 91g) & although it is 15mm wider & 6mm deeper, it is a massive 25mm shorter... Read review
