...**Updated review - based on comments received - thanks** Amazon.co.uk probably needs no introduction but for the benefit of anyone who doesn't know who or what amazon is, here goes. Amazon (and this review refers specifically the UK version) is an online retailer, selling a huge range of products, from books, cds, dvds, pc and video games to jewellery, shoes and home & garden products. I started using amazon.co.uk way back in 2001 and have been a loyal customer ever since. My main reason for starting to use Amazon was because I moved away from the UK and needed an easy way to continue buying English books, DVDs, etc. Back then, Amazon was one of the few online stores who would deliver to Switzerland (and also remove the VAT charge since Switzerland is outside of the EU). mobiles.co.uk - no support or customer service

Advantages: Get a mobiles phone next day with a free gift
Disadvantages: up to hour wait to get through to their support, then 25 mins in queue

...sent the items back on special delivery (they advised they would refund the £21.00 it cost to send back). I phoned the following day to order my new one and it arrived perfectly the next day. Great service if you want your phone quickly. I then tried phoning them to get my refund for postage - 35 minutes in the queue after waiting 70 minutes to get a line through to them. Numerous unanswered emails - it's like they cherry pick what they want to answer as I had replies off more recent ones than older ones with complaints. The lady who answers emails has a signature of supervisor but she obviously lacks experience and customer service skills. She also does not know how to use spell checker or acknowledge my frustration with an apology. When I phoned orange to check my contract I was told I was paying for two. Mobiles.co.uk had not...

...Hmmmmmm, not quite sure on how to do this but I would just like to write a review on using your local library services. I was a little surprised as to the area that it was in, but hey ho that is Ciao for you as they put it there supposedly! But anyway, back to the subject in mind. How do I use the library service? Well, you have to actually be a member in order to use pretty much any of the facilities that are on offer. It is usually free to join, but there are usually stipulations that you must agree to meet prior to joining: 1. That you are a permanent resident in the area that provides the service. If you live in Devon or Cornwall, then you can't use the service in Avon or Somerset. Excelllant service

Advantages: Speed of service
Disadvantages: most CDs cheaper elsewhere!

...I have order boths boo and compact disks from Amazin and I have yet to find a single fat with their service. Some back catalogue titles are absent in the Cd sextion but I'm sure this will improve with time. The prices are upt o scratch (although if you look a bit harder you can find them cheaper - check onges-one.co.uk for a lot of recent CDS at 6.99 each, and cd-wow.com for al top 75 cds at 8.99 each !). Postage is okay, but can be a bit expensive if you''re only after the one item to its better the wait a while and order a few items at once. Delivery has always been within a few days at the most....

...I've only quite recently begun shopping with Amazon, the main reason being receiving vouchers from survey sites and from on here. It's now one of the first sites I look at when making a purchase. ~~~ Products ~~~ Amazon.co.uk stocks a massive variety of products. So far everything I have searched for has been available to buy on the site, although most of the things have been quite common like DVD's and games. I can't think of anywhere that stocks as much stuff as Amazon, maybe not even Ebay. ~~~ Prices ~~~ The prices on Amazon are very competitive and are usually the cheapest place to but DVD's and games, again being usually cheaper than Ebay, I have no doubt that this is the case for many other products. The main down side is that cash back sites don't offer cash back for Amazon, or am I on the wrong cash back site...

Mobiles.co.uk - customer service - no problem

...Mobiles.co.uk - love it. ordered my new phone with free wii. bit apprehensive due to the poor reviews - but thought it was worth a try based on the free gifts being delivered WITH the phone. Phone ordered Friday - Sony K810i. £35 p/m, 600 mins and 500 texts. The order went through, but I didn't receive my phone or gift on the saturday as expected. I checked my email, and they had informed me there was a problem with my order - and I needed to contact them. uh oh I thought - here we go ! Anyway, I phoned, and they said the phone I had asked for was discontinued and out of stock - they offered an alternative selection and I chose an LG model - I think it was LG550, arrived Monday with the wii and guitar hero !! I didn't like my new phone - so wanted to return it - swap it for another. I managed to get through 1st time...

A fast reliable service

...I have been using Amazon for a couple of years now and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. One of the best features about the site is the collections of local opinions on each product which can help buyers evaluate their choice before making the purchase (much like the Ciao concept, but with the ability to purchase straight away). Delivery is incredibly fast. I have made orders in the early hours of Sunday morning (approximately 2am) and received my package in Monday's post. Products are well packed, and a gift ordering service gives you the option of sending wrapped items to friends or family if you desire. The range of goods is large, and if you can't find something you can always drop into the .com version of the site instead of the .co.uk where certain items will be available sooner (beware, though, many items aren't shipped...

Unparalleled Service

Advantages: Fantastic Used Bargains with Marketplace and Z Shops

...Where Amazon really raises itself head and shoulders above its contemporaries is its Marketplace and Z Shops. Marketplace is a forum which allows you to buy from and sell to private buyers - videos, DVDs and books - so it's a great way of recycling CD's you're no longer enamoured with or for finding a bargain. Z Shops are participating retailers who provide much the same service. Where Amazon has really shone for me is in its ability to track down obscure singles from yesteryear. There's always somebody, somewhere sitting on a much sought-after CD or film that you thought was unobtainable. But unlike auction sites, there is no bidding war, no hefty postage fees and a seamless transaction through the Amazon 1-Click ordering process which makes tracking down a used bargain as easy as ordering a brand new release. ...I have used Amazon quite a few times to buy both books and computer games and every time I have been very pleased with the service provided. If the items are in stock delivery is always very fast, usually only a couple of days. There is a facility on the web site where you can check to see if your order has been despatched which is useful! The website itself is very easy to use and interesting to look around even if you are not looking for anything in particular. Great choice, hundreds of products and the prices are quite good as well. Shipping doesn't cost a lot but if you want things delivered in separate parcels (if one item is not in stock) you have to pay extra. If you are buying presents for people you can ask them to set up a wishlist on the website so that you don't have to guess what to get them! If you are...
