Quite a few times I've had to go without because I've been running late and not able to get a responsive member of staff to serve me. The hotel markets itself as being a spa and corporate events hotel and also makes a lot of the fact that it is located very close to Silverstone race course. I sometimes feel that there's a bit of a contradiction between being a spa and a corporate events hotel. I remember being at the hotel on Valentine's Day a couple of years ago while on a course and there were lots of couples who were staying there on one of their spa deals - most of the couples weren't particularly appreciative of the fact that they were sharing their fine dining experience with several tables of rowdy twenty somethings taking advantage of the free...

The Felbridge Hotel & Spa Hotel

Advantages: Stunning decor, exceptional food, polite, friendly staff
Disadvantages: None

...with Indian Head Massage and the energy channels in the body. The spa uses Elemis for face and body treatments and Jessica for nail treatments and also has St Tropez - these are some of the worlds top product ranges. The prices in the spa are very expensive, a Jessica Manicure is approx £40-50 while most high street salons charge approx £20-25 for the same. This is to be expected from all hotel spas though. Accessible from the A34 or M4 in the "outback" of Newbury, near Donnington Castle, the newly redeveloped 4 stars hotel and spa is a perfect place to forget your worries and relax. Even though you can book with the hotel directly for their spa packages/treatments my day was booked via Spa Breaks.com in January as they were offering a 20% off any spa day if booked before March. A good all-inclusive hotel in an excellent location

Advantages: Outstanding food, good rooms and good service
Disadvantages: Lift doors can hurt, pizzas are poor, no room service and a timeshare rotwieller

...My wife and I booked a week through Spa Travel advertised in a Marks & Spencer catalogue; we met in Malta 40 years ago while I was serving with the RAF on the Island. The week's all inclusive stay in the Fortina Spa Resort (5* opened in 2006) and included Club Class return travel with either BA or Air Malta, with Malta transfers and a 2 hour harbour cruise, at a cost of £900 each. Air Malta (Heathrow Terminal 4) provided an outstanding service on both outbound and return sectors - far better than BA! We booked a superior harbour view room and were allocated one on the tower's 4th floor facing Pieta and Marsamxett harbours facing South West with fantastic views of North facing Valetta and sunsets over Rabat. A FAIR OLD TIME AT THE FAIRLAWNS

...INTRODUCTION Due to the dark and dingy weather and lack of time my boyfriend and me decided to have a night at a spa to try and cheer us up. We always seem to decide to go away at the last minute so leave ourselves very little to choice in where to go as most places are booked up. However we have since come across a good booking website that seems to be able to get us availability last minute where ever we want. On this occasion we didn?t want to venture far so read up on health spas in the West Midlands for a change. The one that seemed the nicest was The Fairlawn?s Hotel and Spa which has sounded nice because it is privately owned, been around since 1984 and is set in 9 acres of pretty grounds perfect! A wonderful and relaxing spa with plenty of choice.

Advantages: Not as expensive as other spa's and they're nicely decorated.
Disadvantages: Why can't I afford to come here every day?!

A Spa on a budget?

Advantages: bubbly, interestingly pampering scent, good body wash!
Disadvantages: may be slightly too aromatic for some, possibly too girly to appeal to men?

...I never actually bought this, I sort of acquired it! Some time ago, in Sainsbury's, my mum had decided she was fed up with the soap getting soggy in the shower soap holder and, since the Imperial Leather handwash was on offer, we somehow managed to end up with a buy-one-get-one-free on both types of product! (The other shower gel in question was the far more eye-catching bright icy blue Icelandic Spa one, but that was used up before I had chance to sample it.) So, for variety, we also went for the cream-ivory coloured Japanese Spa shower gel . . . and then my dad decided he couldn't get used to body wash instead of soap - he's not the kind of dad you'd buy toiletries for at the best of times! - and my mum isn't really a high-maintenance person in the bathroom either.
