...I enjoy making fan music videos for tv shows that I like. To do this, I started off using Windows Movie Maker, which comes free with new versions of Windows. As with a lot of free software, it was far from perfect. Fairly recently, I got sick of waiting hours for the thing to try and save a video only to crash my computer half-way through. There were other flaws in the program, but what annoyed me most was that it would frequently fail to save, giving unhelpful error messages, and still take forever when it saved properly. Ulead VideoStudio 8 Complete Package

Advantages: Ease of use, SmartSound, improved audio and titling
Disadvantages: No background rendering, some new features a bit fiddly.

ULead, I'll Follow U To The Cutting Room Floor

Advantages: Easy to get a good first result
Disadvantages: Quite complex, once you feel the need to move on

...for the finished result was limited to what is called VCD, a forerunner to DVD of a more limited picture definition, not unlike that of VHS tapes, and limited in length by the format of a CD-ROM?s 700megabyte capacity. Since some digital camcorders can shoot to nearly broadcast standards of picture definition, (my new one boasts 520 lines ? you only need about 480, not 625 as many people think) this seems a shame. Fear not, this constitutes one of the rare occasions that I didn?t leap in too early. Having a new more suitable recording medium, i.e. a recordable DVD, gives free rein to software houses to upgrade their editing suites to encompass the burning of the final output in DVD format, and this is precisely what Ulead have done by bringing out version 7 of their Video Studio software. Most people would probably settle with very happy and perhaps I should have done long ago, but I chanced upon a free trial of ULead Video Studio 10. ULead are one of the market leaders in visual software, and especially when it comes to videos. Great results but with a few little problems

Advantages: Very simple to create professional looking movies
Disadvantages: Problems creating VCD and converting file formats

...my third VCD but this where the problems started. The software just wouldn't create a disc. it stopped converting my .asf files from my digi cam. I uninstalled and reinstalled many times but to no avail. I tried saving the movie file as a WMA, mpeg and pal vcd file but i kept getting failure messages half way through burning my movie on to a cd. In the end i just got fed up. I tried looking for file converting software and managed to find a free trial for a software that converted my .asf file to an mpeg. I converted my video file to mpeg using this software and then tried creating a vcd again on ulead videostudio v.8. it worked!!!!! It is still working I have created many VCD without a problem. I ended up buying the software that helped me create my mpeg files from shareware: SUPER DVD CREATER V8.5 MPEG FILE CONVERTOR. Ulead...

Review of Ulead VideoStudio 8 Complete package

Sony DCR HC42E

Advantages: Compact, good build quality, great picture and night-vision.
Disadvantages: sony software caused problems I used Ulead V8

...I looked around for weeks and eventually decided that this little beauty would be the one to take home. Its compact design and handy docking/charging station were appealing. The on-screen menu is quite straight forward once you get to know your way around the system. The picture and sound quality are great and my standard battery lasts for well over an hour. I use the super nightshot plus on this device quite a lot and it is very good, although the picture is sometimes "jerky" and the unit adjusts its auto focus on stationary objects quite often. Normal daylight filming is very sharp and the colours are well defined. I did find the software difficult to load and operate and eventially started to use Ulead Version 8, which i find works well and produces my edited VCD/DVD's. This is a very user friendly camcorder in general...

UNEED TO MAKE AN IMPACT AT THAT PRICE

...I'd just like to say that I am taking about the new Photoimpact here - Photoimpact 8!!!! Photoimpact 7 was so packed full of goodies that it's hard to imagine what Ulead could do to its flagship program to take it any further. But it seems to have found a way, and Photimpact 8 is the result. It slots neatly into the mid-range image-editing market, alongside Photoshop Elements and Paint Shop Pro. It's far more sophisticated than buget-entry offerings like Photo Express and Microsoft Picture It, but it doesn't really aspire to the professional heights of Photshop itself. It's not through lack of trying though. Aswell as the array of tools in Photoimapct 8 itself, the program comes with two stand-alone packages that are pretty impressive in their own right. The other day JavaRazor by Ulead landed on my PC desktop :) For those of you who are into creating rather nice looking Web pages with minimum fuss then I would take a serious look at this simple tastey little package. The package comes with two installables - Animator and Button Applets. Using either provided wizards or the properties options (for more control) you can very easily create animated buttons. You can add your own backgrounds or piccies easily. You also have lots of options for colours. For example - on the MouseOver event the colour can be set to Neon. This means you get a great glowing effect around your text on this event. Buttons can be different shapes too - just select what you want! The buttons are displayed in a simple Explorer type area...
