...This product from the well known brand Brylcreen is described on the packaging as 'Next Generation'. It claims that next generation gels are better because they are- long lasting faster drying easy to apply and wash out non flaky Right, I will tackle each of these claims one at a time. Is it long lasting? Yes it is, having applied the product at around 8 in the morning it was still effective at 10.30 in the evening. Even if exposed to rain, the gel keeps its structure. So far so good. Is it faster drying? Again yes it seems to dry faster than other similar brands of hair gel, and is dry to the touch in a couple of minutes, depenting on how much of the product you choose to apply. Is it easy to apply and wash out? This product comes is a squeezy tube which is an innovation that many producers of similar products...

Advantages: Exellent long lasting hold, cheap to buy
Disadvantages: White residue in hair after use, makes hair feel crispy

...Today?s product under the microscope is Shock Waves Ultra Strong Max Hold Gel. This product was purchased from Tesco?s for £2.19. As it is a Shock Waves product it is widely available and can be found in all major supermarkets, chemists and good convenience stores nationwide. The gel is contained within the standard Shock Waves tube, so basically it is light blue in colour, stands approx. 14cm high and has the Shock Waves logo clearly printed up the side in white, blue and pink. A gel with a purpose!

Advantages: Super Strong. Great on short hair.

...!?) Now onto using the gel: Short Hair. When my hair is short and I try and spike my hair, this product is, in my opinion - the best there is. It works great, needing only a small amount. It works best, on damp hair. In fact it only really works on damp hair..but surely everyone knows to add a little water? Styling is very easy, and the gel 'dries' relatively quickly. On my own hair, this gel doesn't go rock hard, so if I'm looking for that effect, I would usually use a few sprays of the shockwave ultra strong spray gel over the top, to make the hair utterly immoveable :) Normally though this isn't required, and the gel will keep the hair in shape all day. At nights the gel brushes (okay rubs is probably more like it) out nice and easy, and leaves only little residue. The following morning you should find your hair isn't in too bad...
