The Ultrium-ate Review
Review of Fujifilm LTO Ultrium 200 GB by
Calldean
Advantages: Fast
Disadvantages: Cost
...the leading edge LTO tapes have a small spring loaded "door" at the side through which the tape is dispensed into the drive. So unlike your videos, which spool from one side to the other, this is spun out in one long line and then rewound. I could be totally wrong but Fuji and the other manufacturers are a little obscure on this!
Enough of that anyway; what do you do with them?
You copy your ever so precious data onto it. Now I'm willing to bet a penny to an LTO drive that your data isn't worth £3000+. Nope, didn't think so.
But for business it is. Frequently it's worth a lot more than that.
Your average home user will NEVER need this much storage capacity. Each tape has a native (I.E. Uncompressed) capacity of 200GB. Most home PCs don't even have hard drives that big. Compress the data and you can get a theoretical capacity of 400GB...

Freecom 400GB external USB Hard drive
Review of Freecom Hard Drive Hard drive 400 GB by
ilaskey
Advantages: Fast, high capacity storage. Well built, looks good. 2 year warranty, No fan.
Disadvantages: No fan.
...Freecom before as they've always looked a bit cheap and nasty so this would be an interesting experience. The box did feel reassuringly heavy though, a good start.
###############
# What's in the Box?
###############
Apart from the drive, the box contained a small light external PSU, a USB lead and a CD with some backup software.
The case is made of extremly solid and heavy aluminium with a silver plastic front piece with a sexy blue '400GB' light (yes, you can have sexy lights. Really.) at the front just to prove how big it was. The finish is excellent and I have to say, if this is anything to go by, I'm converted to Freecom. Unlike the picture here, my unit has the aluminium finished in matt black which looks really nice on top of my black PC. It's also surprisingly compact - not that much bigger than a hard drive at 20x11.5x4 cms...

Western Digital 400BB Caviar 40GB Hard Drive
Review of Western Digital Caviar WD400BB 40 GB by
positivereflect
Advantages: Fast read/write, 7200rpm spindle speed
Disadvantages: Only 2mb data buffer, Only supports upto ATA100
...Having already owned several western digital hard drives before, i knew these would be pretty reliable.
Installation was fairly easy - four screws, one data cable, and one power cable connection.
The bios on the motherboard recognised the drive perfectly.
Once installed and setup, i noticed the difference over my old hard drive straight away.
The boot up speed was a lot quicker and i once again had space for all my bits and pieces(after i had sorted windows out).
(just for reference my old drive was a 20gb 2mb Cache 5400rpm).
For any one not into the techie side of things, the faster the spindle speed and the bigger the cache size, the Faster the drive.
Although 40gb doesnt sound very big compared to the other sizes available, you can still hold a lot of information on a drive of this size....

Gigabyte this
Review of Gigabyte GA-7NNXP - motherboard - ATX - nForce2 Ultra 400 by
bad_bob00
Advantages: Supports fast CPU's (upto Athlon 3200+), Crammed with features
Disadvantages: None really
...and allowing for high-speed computing thanks to the NVIDIA nForce™2 Ultra 400 platform, allowing for the Athlon XP Barton 3200+'s to be used to their full potential. Thanks to the dual channel DDR controller your computer has a lot more power (and if you wish to you can have 3GB of fast memory!!) the AGP8X graphics interface means you are able to use the best graphics cards on this, and will be able to enjoy thrilling games such as Doom3 in all their glory (or gory!). 5 PCI slots are included, which allows plenty of room for other cards to be inserted. This is quite a high number, especially as the motherboard is already crammed with so many other good features. Dual LAN is included, so is IEEE 1394 (Firewire), and the latest USB 2.0 allowing fast transfer of data and enables the use of the latest peripherals. Serial ATA and IDE RAID allow you...

Archos Gmini 400
Review of Archos Gmini 400 20GB by
gothicbob
Advantages: Plays music, video, games and shows photos (20gb)
Disadvantages: Will make all your friends jelous
...I brought the Archos Gmini 400 when i wanted to buy an mp3 player, i had considered almost every one (ipod mini was almost certainly going to be the one i chose) untill i stumbled up this little baby.
The Gmini can do everything the average mp3 player can do, and a whole lot more! Videos photos and games! and for less than an ipod. It has 15hours battery whilst playing mp3s and 5hours when watching video. It can be hooked up to a tv and can be played though that.
The display has vidid colours and you can choose your own background and theme (from any of your photos) The display shows all the mp3's information whilst playing and even shows the album art.
The Archos Gmini is attached via usb cable, and no installation is required, it just appears like a flash usb memory stick, making it perfect for the transfer of files to or from...

Canon EOS 400D
Review of Canon EOS 400D by
montmorillonite
Advantages: Low cost entry to Digital SLR photography. Compatible with all Canon Ef and Ef-s lenses
Disadvantages: Manual exposure fiddly, Kit lens good for cost, but not high-quality
...on the On Switch and the camera is ready for use and you can get almost 100 RAW images on a 1gb CF card.
If you like using program modes and auto exposure everything then all of that works brilliantly on the 400D. If you are an experienced photographer, or just like to experiment with taking control of exposure yourself, you will probably be as irritated as I am by the awkward combination of button, wheel, and hand position that you have to use to set the aperture in MANUAL mode. You can do it, it's just not easy with your eye to the viewfinder.
And talking of viewfinders the 400D has a lovely clear viewfinder with sufficient exposure information visible. The autofocus is great and very, very fast. Though (as with all autofocus cameras) you have to make sure the camera is focusing on what you want sharp in the image. To this end you can choose any...

"Canon EOS400D" a jewel in a compact black box
Review of Canon EOS 400D by
bensalem
Advantages: Compact, .Hidh speed shooting. high resolution images.TVOUT connect...
Disadvantages: still be expansive
...is really a jewel. I had picked some wonderful views, photos are sharp and contrasted as I ever liked it!
On the processing side, I had noticed an honest speedy data transfer to my PC through an USB port, without forgetting the TV /OUT connection that allows to view my pictures on the TV screen or savings on a video recorder.
I have got the luck to buy my second-hand EOS400D canon camera for the equivalent of 200 GB£. It seems that I had payed an honest good price for an almost new camera. New items prices are between 500 to 600 GB£ in different online stores.
Here are some features picked from Canon web site:
•10.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor
•EOS Integrated Cleaning System
•2.5" LCD
•9-point wide-area AF
•Picture Styles
•DIGIC II
•3fps with up to 27 frame burst
•DPP RAW image processing software
•Compact and lightweight
•EF...

Leadtek WinFast A400 TDH, great budget card
Review of Leadtek WinFast A400 TDH by
andybuck123
Advantages: Overclocks well, handles most new games, good for 3D design.
Disadvantages: Size (large)
...to unlock 'coolbits' the program supplied by nVidia but needs to be unlocked to clock the card. A short while more looking on Google led me to find out i could possibly unlock 1 vertex shader and 4 pixel pipe lines. After over clocking the card to 400/785 i found that any more than that lead to a blue screen of death when testing in 3DMark05.
I then set about unlocking the vertex shader and pixel pipelines, this had to be done using RivaTuner. It was a simple process and took seconds to do. After testing on 3DMark05 again i found serious Artifacts when the pixel pipelines were unlocked. However the vertex shader worked fine.
Overall over clocking the card led to a pretty go | | |
