...Sony's quest for exclusive PlayStation 3 games that are actually worth the blu-ray disc they're lasered on continues with "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune". Developed by "Naughty Dog", best known for the "Crash Bandicoot" and "Jak and Daxter" series, a quick glance at "Uncharted" gleams of high production values. Ever since I show the trailer, I couldn't help but dream of a game featuring the platforming of "Prince of Persia" and the combat of "Resident Evil 4", playing out the story of a Don Rosa "Duck" adventure. However, I've limited my PS3 expectations to "extremely low" for its first couple of years, so I went into the game fully expecting said dreams to be thoroughly crushed and burned. ...I was slightly aprehensive when I got this game. I had played the demo from the PSN store, and had not been that impressed. However I was wrong to do so; Uncharted is one of the PS3's best exclusives and is well worth the buy, even months afer it's release. As far as adventure games go the only competition out there is Lost, which, to be honest, isn't in Uncharted's league at all. Story and Characters If there is one thing that would showcase this game it is the storyline. ...Nearly a year after it's original release and Uncharted: Drakes Fortune remains one of the highlights of the Ps3 lineup. I originally played this on release but with it's recent addition to Sonys Trophy system i decided it was worth a revisit, and i wasn't disappointed. The graphics, although still impressive, have been superceded by titles such as Metal Gear Solid 4 but the fun and freshness of Uncharted remain. The main appeal of the game is the storyline which is a pure adventure driven by the main character Nathan Drake. Drake believes himself to be related to English explorer Sir Francis drake and embarks on a mission to find his ancestors treasure. ...Uncharted really is a bit of an odd game, plot-wise. You play as Nathan Drake, who's a treasure hunter. The game starts on a boat, you've just recovered the cofin of Sir Francis Drake and open it to find its empty, except for a diary. A woman, Elena, is on the boat with you filming you for a television show. Pirates then attack and you then travel to places such as El Dorado, a Nazi U-boat (where your mentor is killed) and an island jungle. The game has two main elements, platforming and combat. The platforming works very well with a mixture of puzzles and plenty of leaps and jumps. You also get to use the six-axis to balance when you walk across planks etc. The best feature of the combat is the brilliant cover system. ...I bought Uncharted just after it was released last Christmas. The other day I loaded it up for yet another play through, and it blew me away all over again. At such a low price, this is seriously not a game to miss out on. The premise is fairly simple. You play Nathan Drake, a descendant of Sir Francis Drake, who is searching for the lost treasure of El Dorado. The story itself is magnificent. I have never seen a game weave a plot so well. The characters are deep and well rounded, and there are lots of twists and turns. The story really is central to the game, and makes you keep playing. Graphically, Uncharted is amazing. It has to be seen to be beleived. Everything from the textures on the rock to the way Drake's shirt stays realisitically wet for a few minutes after he goes in the water looks absolutely stunning. ...Overall Rating: 87% Uncharted is one of the few games on the PS3 that I would class as a must-buy. If you're a fan of action games, which, let's face it, most of us are, then you won't be disappointed. If there's a complaint to be made, it is that the game doesn't really do anything new - but in this day and age where 90% of game releases aren't worth the time or effort, an awesome albeit unoriginal game is a hell of a lot better than something totally new and unique that isn't any fun at all. The gameplay of Uncharted will no doubt give you a feeling that you've seen it all before - but despite this, the developers have clearly put a lot of time into deciding exactly what aspects of what games to borrow and combine, and that's what makes this game good. ...Introduction: Uncharted includes fighting combat, navigation and pure enjoyment. The game starts off with a simple gun fight, which begins your campain to find Francese Drakes fortune. With a trusty companian, you slowly voyage through jungle environments, water and underground chambers in search of hidden treasures and finding and helping your friends. Good Points: This game involves easy combat with use of a pistol as well as some other guns and weapons and easy hand combat. The buttons are quite simple to pick up with help being displayed throughout the game enabling you to do many different and exciting moves according to the situation, As you progress through the game there are video clips showing more of the story and also helping by revealing enemies and information.
