Camera Bubble
Review of Ewa-marine U-A Underwater SLR Camera Housing by
amartin13
Advantages: Watertight, Floats very easily, Safe
Disadvantages: Floats very easily, "The Scare Factor", space for the flash
...and a neck strap.
Will it fit my camera?
I was lucky enough to be able to visit a local supplier to try this kit out and see if my camera would fit. The U-A will take a entry level / normal sized SLR such as the canon EOS 350D or 400D with or without a grip/ drive and a standard 18-55mm / 28-70mm lens. Please note that on a 350D the pop up flash will still pop, and can be used, but the effects on something like this are very limited underwater.
The UA should fit any SLR Camera no more than 135mm high, with a lens no wider than 80mm and a back to front of lens measurement (fully extended) of 170mm.
The lens barrel part of the kit is extendable and so will allow you to use a twist zoom lens, but manual focusing is likely to be difficult. Zooming will be fiddly, but can be done.
The dry run... (Please excuse the pun)

Great camera for underwater use
Review of Kodak Weekender Underwater Disposable camera by
dip10020
Advantages: Light, complete with carry strap.
Disadvantages: Button is just a little difficult to press
...I bought this product this summer, because in was in Sydney this summer and decided to go to the Great Barrier Reef too. So I got there and thought I'd better take an underwater camera, so I bought this Kodak one, as it was the only one in the store. The waterproof casing looked rather dubious, but dont be fooled, for this is one sound, good working camera. It comes with a strap, so you needn't carry it underwater. I processed it, and my coral pictures came out beautifully. And at £8 pounds, I think that it is an excellent product, for now my memories have been immortalised....

Want an underwater camera?
Review of Canon PowerShot A70 by
muddlefuddle
Advantages: Ease of use
Disadvantages: None
...This was the second Canon camera I have owned, the first being the A60. I picked up the A60 with the underwater housing after struggling to master a 35mm underwater camera. It paid for itself very quickly in the sense there were no developing costs involved. The A60 done the job well but I wanted a little more zoom and whatever so I started looking again.
The A70 has the same button layout and is the identical size therefore fits the same underwater housing, this alone saved me about £150.00 on buying a new housing.
I had the A70 for about two years and took thousands of photos both in air and under water. It has been compared to cameras of much higher value and with greater megapixals and came out on top for picture quality.
Ease of use is paramount to me - I know very little about the tech. side of photography - using the Auto...

Brilliant for amateur underwater photographers
Review of Canon WP DC800 Marine case Digital photo camera by
TimDJ
Advantages: Easy to use, lets you take great photos with little effort
Disadvantages: You can't feel the half way focus point on the shutter button
...I bought the WP DC800 to use with my Canon Ixus 500 on a marine expedition to Madagascar. It was a choice between a made-to-fit housing like this, which appeared to me to be quite expensive - I paid around £130 for the housing from Jessops, or the plastic bag type of underwater housing that will fit most cameras.
I definitely made the right decision, the housing is worth every penny. From the first day in the water it was taking stunning pictures. I was a little aprehensive about taking my digital camera into the sea for the fisrt time but after a few test runs with the empty case I took the plunge.
My Ixus 500 fits inside perfectly and all the buttons line up exactly, making use of the the camera and adjusting settings as easy as it is on dry land. From the first snorkel I was taking great, well focused pictures. I found the neck...

keeping my camera safe and dry
Review of Canon WP DC800 Marine case Digital photo camera by
phil8561
Advantages: great for underwater photos
Disadvantages: fogs up after 30 mins underwater.
...I bought this underwater case for my Cannon Ixus 400 (which i have also reviewed) from Camerasunderwater.com for £140 including postage in 2004 to be used to take photos of my son while he was learning to swim as my wife thought it would be cheaper to take our own photos rather than pay for the courses own ones.
The housing came with an instrution manual, neck strap (never used it) a wrist strap, spare "O" ring seal and some grease.
The case is made out of clear plastic, and a glass lens which is screwed to the case and neoprine rubber which is on the inside of the case where the cameras zoom lens fits into, there is also an opaque plastic just over the lens infront of where the flash is on the camera itself which is used to defuse the flash underwater at nighttime.
All camera functions can still be used underwater...

A water resistant camera that isn't yellow!
Review of Canon IXUS X-1 Compact Camera by

Advantages: Pictures from where you have never taken pictures before.
Disadvantages: "APS" = Ain't Perfect Sharpness...
...or access the fiddly little buttons to set the camera time/date/text annotation options.
Nice features:
The shutter release button is huge - easy to hit with cold and/or gloved fingers.
The operation mode knob is knurled and also easy to operate with gloved fingers.
The film rewind button is recessed into the top of the camera and I have never operated this by mistake.
The spring-loaded knob for opening the waterproof film loading compartment is similarly impossible to open accidentally.
The viewfinder is nice and big, you can see what you are photographing no problem through a diving mask or ski goggles.
Lightweight (220g) and small (105x75x47mm)
The numbers:
On the technical side, the camera has a 23mm/f4.8 lens, and features 5 focus options, including an "underwater macro" option, which allows you to focus on objects as close...

A sleek and feature-rich camera, worth the price
Review of Canon PowerShot A520 by
xintech
Advantages: Excellent Photo Features, Worth The Price, User-Friendly
Disadvantages: Lack of stylish look, Poor Video Mode
...INTRODUCTION
For those who are aware of Canon digital camera, it is worth for them to know that this Canon PowerShot A520 is a marked improvement of its predecessor, the powerful A85. Canon had managed to improve the model significantly, and has added features that can easily beat other competitions in the market.
They really did their homework in terms of providing basic beginner / amateur users the what-you-see is what you-get (WYSIWYG) concept in taking a photograph. For an example,
a standard digital camera would have a lot of difficulty in taking photos in dark environment eg. scenery of a town at night, but with this camera, you would expect to get a good view of the night lights of the town.
They have also improved the look and layout of the camera from its predecessor, hence, it seems like they have managed quite well...

Light and small high quality compact camera
Review of Canon PowerShot A710 IS by
dsantachiara
Advantages: Light/pocketable high quality all purpose compact digital camera. Nice software
Disadvantages: Noise already at ISO400, Now replaced by A720is (but price will drop!)
...- Premise
My decision to buy a compact camera from Canon was almost obliged. I have already owned an EOS350 (Rebel XT in the US) since 2005 and I wanted to simplify as much as possible my life: the number of cables I have to bring along and the number of applications installed on my PCs. When a year ago I decided to buy a low-budget video-camera I bought the cheaper one from Canon (MV790) which used the same battery as the EOS 350. Have you ever thought how much things are simplified by having to carry only one battery charger and in case of emergency being able to swap the batteries? That was great for me (and you also save on additional batteries that usually cost a lot).
Sorry for the long premise but I wanted to explain the background of my choice. Perhaps photo purists would like to hear about technical specifications...

Light high quality compact digital camera
Review of Canon PowerShot A720 IS by
dsantachiara
Advantages: Light/pocketable high quality all purpose compact digital camera. Minor improvements over A710is
Disadvantages: ISO 1600 poor, Camera Windows software worsened, no wireless file transfer
...in all respects. What I have appreciated was that, probably due to the slightly better resolution of the CCD, the smaller details are better reproduced on the A720is than the A710. Please note that is something you will not notice till you will make for instance an A3 print-out of your photo or you will zoom-in into the image with your imaging software.
- In use
The camera is activated pushing the on/off button on the top. Roughly in one second you are ready to shot, so it is quite fast. The mode dial, also on the top, offers the usual range of settings: fully automatic, Program, Tv (shutter priority mode), Av (Aperture priority mode), Manual, Video mode plus many other custom modes (indoor, snow, underwater...). I guess somebody is using these modes because in 5 years of digital photography they only caused me some headaches when I...
