Camera Bubble
Review of Ewa-marine U-A Underwater SLR Camera Housing by
amartin13
Advantages: Watertight, Floats very easily, Safe
Disadvantages: Floats very easily, "The Scare Factor", space for the flash
...You buy a new camera, so what's the best way to try it out? That's right, take it underwater!
We'd been planning a holiday to Egypt for some time, and you really cannot visit Egypt and not go diving or at very least snorkelling, so i decided to buy one of these.
What is it?
The UA is the entry level underwater camera housing from Ewa Marine, costing between £120 and £150 and made from a very tough double-laminated PVC sheet. There are many more available, which will accommodate different sized cameras, lenses and flash gun combinations.
So what do you get for your money?
The UA Underwater kit comes in a bright yellow carry case and the package contains the plastic housing with a sealed glass window for the lens, a lens extender / protector and a pre-cut foam pad to help support the camera. There is also a hand strap...

Great camera for underwater use
Review of Kodak Weekender Underwater Disposable camera by
dip10020
Advantages: Light, complete with carry strap.
Disadvantages: Button is just a little difficult to press
...I bought this product this summer, because in was in Sydney this summer and decided to go to the Great Barrier Reef too. So I got there and thought I'd better take an underwater camera, so I bought this Kodak one, as it was the only one in the store. The waterproof casing looked rather dubious, but dont be fooled, for this is one sound, good working camera. It comes with a strap, so you needn't carry it underwater. I processed it, and my coral pictures came out beautifully. And at £8 pounds, I think that it is an excellent product, for now my memories have been immortalised....

House of the bored to death
Review of House Of The Dead (Rental) (DVD) by
Vodkaboy
Advantages: Probably was not meant to be serious!
Disadvantages: Predictable, weak acting, boring
...of the island, sends her people away so she is totally alone, makes her way across the island unseen by any of the Dead, then has to go back because she has come all this way without so much as a radio or anything.
The zombies run fast and silent on land, and swim well underwater, but when they get to attack, they lurch and stagger so slowly that it is child's play to pick them off.
There is the one gloriously gory fight battle scene, where the band of (fewer) survivors fight their way through about 500 zombies, to get into the house, then defend it. They are armed with a shipment of heavy machine guns and assault rifles that the captain of their boat just happened to be smuggling, but they run out of ammo just as they are safe in the house.
You get the picture.
From the outset the acting is weak, surpassed only by the corny, cliched...

It's a camera. It goes underwater
Review of Sea & Sea Motormarine II by
ESpy
Advantages: Cheaper than throwaways - and it goes deeper
Disadvantages: Rangefinding! Needs a strobe
...with a small aperture to give myself the best chance of getting things in focus. Worked surprisingly well.
The strobe (YS60) that I bought with the camera is, as far as I'm concerned, essential. Whilst our eyes adapt to the light levels underwater, film is less forgiving. The strobe puts a lot of the colour back so everything is as colourful as I remember it. Without it, things are somewhat drab - even whilst snorkelling, which came as a surprise to me.
It isn't a housed SLR, nor is it a Nikonos 5, but it is a viable intro to underwater still photography for me - and capable of delivering some impressive shots if I do my bit....

Nice little camera - good underwater too!
Review of Canon Digital IXUS 75 by
cathy_m80
Advantages: Small/ light, great screen
Disadvantages: Sometimes slow to focus
...I found this camera to be a great buy, though I don't think I've yet used it to its full potential. I bought the Ixus 75 mainly as a camera to take underwater - lightweight and simple to use, and with a housing available (which my previous compact did not have).
One of the best features is the LCD screen - one of the largest available, at 3.0", still usable in bright sunlight and with good screen resolution. One hassle is the lack of optical viewfinder - this is not a problem for me as I rarely use this underwater, but on land I like the option! The small size of the camera means there simply isn't room for a viewfinder as well, the screen takes up the entire height of the camera's back.
And that's actually one of the great advantages of the camera - it really is tiny. It actually measures up as similar to my previous compact...

Brilliant for amateur underwater photographers
Review of Canon WP DC800 Marine case Digital photo camera by
TimDJ
Advantages: Easy to use, lets you take great photos with little effort
Disadvantages: You can't feel the half way focus point on the shutter button
...I bought the WP DC800 to use with my Canon Ixus 500 on a marine expedition to Madagascar. It was a choice between a made-to-fit housing like this, which appeared to me to be quite expensive - I paid around £130 for the housing from Jessops, or the plastic bag type of underwater housing that will fit most cameras.
I definitely made the right decision, the housing is worth every penny. From the first day in the water it was taking stunning pictures. I was a little aprehensive about taking my digital camera into the sea for the fisrt time but after a few test runs with the empty case I took the plunge.
My Ixus 500 fits inside perfectly and all the buttons line up exactly, making use of the the camera and adjusting settings as easy as it is on dry land. From the first snorkel I was taking great, well focused pictures. I found the neck...

Want an underwater camera?
Review of Canon PowerShot A70 by
muddlefuddle
Advantages: Ease of use
Disadvantages: None
...This was the second Canon camera I have owned, the first being the A60. I picked up the A60 with the underwater housing after struggling to master a 35mm underwater camera. It paid for itself very quickly in the sense there were no developing costs involved. The A60 done the job well but I wanted a little more zoom and whatever so I started looking again.
The A70 has the same button layout and is the identical size therefore fits the same underwater housing, this alone saved me about £150.00 on buying a new housing.
I had the A70 for about two years and took thousands of photos both in air and under water. It has been compared to cameras of much higher value and with greater megapixals and came out on top for picture quality.
Ease of use is paramount to me - I know very little about the tech. side of photography - using the Auto...

Underwater, no one can hear you scream....
Review of The Abyss DVD by
Sarah_Louise
Advantages: The aliens are friendly in this film!
Disadvantages: The rat scene was unecessary.
...until after the film it was so old and I never guessed once whilst watching it.
The film was actually made in a former nuclear plant which housed the biggest submerged movie set ever built. The film was directed and filmed from underwater practically all the way through. This leads to a really realistic feel to the film. With it being in the depths of the ocean you can expect this film to be pretty dull and dreary. Don’t less this put you off though because it isn’t all dull, there are some brighter scenes in the film too to brighten it up.
All in all I’d highly recommend the film, I don’t really have any major faults with the film.
So, to conclude:
-------------------
~ Good points ~
-------------------
§ Great graphics, especially when you consider it was made in 1989.
§ Due to the film...

Is There A Doctor In The House?
Review of House - Series 1 DVD by

Advantages: Hilarious, cynical, addictive television - Hugh Laurie is amazing!
