MCS-700 Strobe for the BT VP1000 home alarm
Advantages: Gives you the external Strobe \ siren to compliment your BT VP1000
Disadvantages: Requires power supply so not totaly wireless
...If you want to add a strobe siren to your BT VP1000, you will need this wireless siren.
I added the MCS-700 to mine and was very simple, and all my friends have followed suit.
I Got mine from www.bpcsystems.co.uk, seems to have more bits for use with the BT VP1000 than other places I have tried, and their prices are quite good.
The only negative point is that it comes supplied with a 2 pin plug and not a 13amp plug. Not a big deal I know, you can simply put one on, but why should you have to ?
Another point is the Siren "squawks" 1 squawk when arming 2 squawks when disarming. I have left mine switched on, but I know a couple have had this switched off, but this can only be done by the supplier. They have to call the alarm box by modem and remotely program it on or off, you can not do it from the panel.
The siren was...

Great camera for underwater use
Advantages: Light, complete with carry strap.
Disadvantages: Button is just a little difficult to press
...I bought this product this summer, because in was in Sydney this summer and decided to go to the Great Barrier Reef too. So I got there and thought I'd better take an underwater camera, so I bought this Kodak one, as it was the only one in the store. The waterproof casing looked rather dubious, but dont be fooled, for this is one sound, good working camera. It comes with a strap, so you needn't carry it underwater. I processed it, and my coral pictures came out beautifully. And at £8 pounds, I think that it is an excellent product, for now my memories have been immortalised....

Easy scanning anywhere you are
Advantages: Compact, easy to use, portable
Disadvantages: Can only scan single sheets
...I bought my Visioneer Strobe XP 100 because it is a great little scanner for use on the move. My main PC that I use for work is a laptop with docking station and I wanted something that would easily connect with that. I needed something that would let me organise all of my documents, photos, articles, brochures, and business cards and this Visioneer gave me all of that in a very compact unit that was light and easy to carry. It will pack easily into a decent sized laptop bag and gets its power from the USB port which mean I am able to scan documents anywhere I go and I don't have to carry lots of power leads and adaptors.
It is a small scanner which works by means of a roller which takes in your document through a slot on the top, passes it over the scanner, and then pushes it out through the back. Because of its method...

Toy Story - underwater
Advantages: Pure entertainment, safe
Disadvantages: Bland, Predictable
...film 'An American Tail' - in which Fievel, a small Russian mouse becomes separated from it's parents, and the adventures of both the hero, and his parents become reunited in the 'promised land' of the good-ol' U-S of A, except this time, the story is transported twelve thousand miles to the Great Barrier Reef of Australia, and of course, most of the action takes place underwater.
Pixar used a similar story line in the technically groundbreaking 1995 feature 'Toy Story' - and the somewhat better 1999 sequel (if rather unimaginatively named) 'Toy Story 2'.
It was, therefore, with a certain degree of resignation that I took the wife and kids to 'Finding Nemo', with the full expectation of being distracted for an hour and a half, rather than entertained.
Nobody could have been more surprised than I to find it wasn't as dreadful little...

Try smiling underwater!
Advantages: Too many to list
Disadvantages: How do you pronounce Mju?
...'s a rechargeable lithium type. I always find these much better and longer lasting.
And finally the big one. Wouldn't it be great if you had a camera that you could jump into the pool with?!! Not one that went into some silly kind of plastic bag contraption, just a normal camera that will take underwater pictures. Guess what......tick, this camera is waterproof to ten metres, brilliant for the swimming pool. You can take some amazing pictures that you wouldn't have dreamt of before!
Put all of the above together and the great news about this camera is it is pretty bullet proof. You can drop it, step on it, submerge it or freeze it and it will still work. Just have to hope I don't lose it, that seems to be the only thing Olympus hadn't thought of.
It is expensive. I paid £235 + another £12 for a memory card, but I'm looking at this bad...

Underwater Paradise - Mahe
Advantages: crystal waters, high abundance and diversity of fish, whale sharks are regular visitors
Disadvantages: lots of damaged coral
...uninhabited isle neighbouring Therese, and is typical of the area with steep granite cliffs, and scattered boulders. I always found Conception an interesting dive because there are visibly different zones as you near the shore. On descent the bottom is flat sand with a few rocky outcrops and the odd pelagic fish. Moving towards the island, there is a huge bank of dead decomposing coral, which although a bit depressing to look at is teeming with feeding parrotfish, wrasse and butterflyfish. Nearest to the shore is a diverse topography of boulders, sporting members of the surgeon family, sweetlips, angelfish, triggerfish and squirrelfish.
There are several operators in the main tourist hub of Beau Vallon. I can recommend the Underwater Centre next to the Coral Strand Hotel (www.diveseychelles.com.sc), which provides room and dive packages, and is...

Underwater realism
Advantages: Realism, i.e. story, characters, performances, underwater effects.
Disadvantages: The actors' Russian accents
...there's nobody to blame). More importantly, 'K-19' destroys the American grotesque myth according to which all Soviet/Russian personnel were just a bunch of poorly-trained drunkards. Far from it, history now teaches us. Exceptional people were victimised by bureaucracy, the political class and the race against the Americans. A lot of errors resulted from this diabolic concoction. Even before going to sea, the submarine received the name 'The Widow Maker' while, after the accident, it became known in the Navy as 'Hiroshima' until its retirement in 1990 (!!).
The prime quality of the movie is its realism and dynamism. The underwater sequences are truly superb while the sub's surfacing inside the Arctic Circle through the icecap are breathtaking. The frightening confinement of the boat, the living conditions, the danger and constant peril...

Too Easy to be Enjoyable
Advantages: Quite nice for young children...
Disadvantages: ... far too easy for anyone else...
...Finding Nemo: Nemo's Underwater World of Fun is a typical example of a movie tie-in game gone wrong. Sure, it's very nicely presented and has some clips from the movie for you to watch, but there's no substance to it at all.
Basically what we have here is a collection of simple mini-games, which when completed let you play a different mini-game. When you've completed that? you've completed the game. (To be fair you can go back and play any of the seven different games again, and the difficulty level will go much higher than needed for to complete the basic game, but why would you?) The best thing about the movie was that although kids loved it, it was just as enjoyable (perhaps even more so) for adults, because of the different layers of humour. With this game it's purely for young children (who may love it) - the games are very...

Water World!
Advantages: Amazing experience, great price, once in a lifetime thing!
Disadvantages: Not for those afraid of water lol
...When I found out I was going to Mauritius, I thought it would give me the chance to do one of the things that I have always wanted to do, and that is a Walking Underwater Experience. I love being in the water, and the thought of being in deep water, in an exotic island, amongst the fishes sounded like paradise to me. Therefore I was thrilled when I went to Grand Baie and they told me that they offered it as a trip! I instantly booked my place, and had to wait another week before I had the chance to go "under the sea"!
As I just mentioned above, my Underwater Walking event happened in Grand Baie, which is one of the most beautiful tourist beaches in Mauritius. It has gorgeous white sand, turqouise blue seas, and many different water sports and adventures for people to try out. A few examples of these include jet-skiing, day trips...

The Underwater Realm
Advantages: Learning done at the pace you need
Disadvantages: Members don't know how good it really is!
...Have you ever considered diving? By diving I mean Sub-Aqua diving or more commonly known as Scuba diving. You may be aware of the concept from television, e.g. Jacques Cousteau’s Underwater World, or from James Bond movies, e.g. Dr No or Thunderball. Did you know that Britain has a number of organisations that can teach you this sport? These organisations have different ways of teaching that can suit your life style.
Organisations
PADI
Professional Association of Diving Instructors
A predominantly American organisation that has links across the world. Mostly resort based and willing to teach you in weekly chunks of time.
SSI
Scuba Schools International
An organisation that runs in a similar way to PADI. However, of European origins.
BSAC
British Sub-Aqua Club
An organisation that sets up local branches and dive...
