And You Thought That You're Unfortunate!
Review of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events - Lemony Snicket by
pureblue
Advantages: Keeps both adults and kids absorbed
Disadvantages: None
....
******************************************
THE STORY -
This book tells the tragic tale of three unlucky children - Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire whose comfortable lives suffered a seismic change when their parents died in a fire. The three unfortunate children were sent to live with a distant relative, Count Olaf - a greedy, evil man who plotted and schemed to get his grubby hands on the Baudelaire fortune. Throughout the story, the children seemed to attract disaster like a moth to a flame. And the ending is still no better.
********************************************
'A Series of Unfortunate Events' is very well written and aimed at younger children aged 7-10. A friend of mine thinks that children should be reading happy, positive things to improve their psyche. I cannot concur to that belief. I feel that this story opens up the eyes of the children to the real world...

really not an unfortunate film!
Review of Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events DVD by
tazzywazzy
Advantages: an thoroughly enjoyable film that makes you smile!
Disadvantages: the set isn't a real place!
...This film is thoroughly enjoyable, perfect for watching anytime of the day & with anyone, I think that everyone will be able to find something that will make them smile & something to enjoy!
I have read that this film is based on books, at the risk of sounding illiterate, I have never read any of the books, or heard of them (until this film), so unfortunately I can not compare as others have done in their reviews.
The film tells the unfortunate story of three children, Violet (the eldest) who is a great inventor, when she has an idea or is inventing something she ties her hair up with a ribbon, Klaus (the middle child) has a photographic memory and remembers everything he reads, Sunny (the youngest) loves to bite things (and yes this does come in handy).
As the films title indicates, a series of unfortunate events occur, firstly...

A Series of Underwhelming Events
Review of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004) by
ruth_cole
Advantages: beautiful and some witty performances
Disadvantages: Jim Carrey and missing sparkle
...Based on the series of popular kids tragedies by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler), A Series of Unfortunate Events cobbles together events from the first three in the series, The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room and The Wide Window. The basic premise of both books and film is that if a bad thing can happen... it certainly will.
Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire (is anyone else thinking Von Bulow? No? Just me, then...) are happy as three siblings who like, respectively, to invent, read and bite can be. That is until their parents are killed in a fire that destroys their mansion home, and the young children (14, 10 and infant) are left in the charge of snuffling banker Mr. Poe, who immediately escorts them to the tottering home of the wiry, wily and wicked Count Olaf, allegedly a distant relative. It soon becomes clear that Olaf...

The sad events of 3 children!!!!
Review of Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events DVD by
selket135
Advantages: Great special effects, fantastic storyline,
Disadvantages: A bit sad in places
...The film a Series of Unfortunate Events comprises the first three books written by Lemony Snicket. These are the bad beggining, the reptile room and the wide window.
I found the books good but the film even better. The film tells the story about three orphans. Violet is the eldest, Klaus the middle one and Sunny the youngest. A terrible fire destroys the children's home and kills their parents. Their parents had a fortune and their house was like a mansion.
After their parents deaths the children go to stay with their first guardian Count Olaf. He is aware the children are rich and the film shows the lengths he will go to to get his hands on their money.
He makes the children work hard cleaning his disgusting filthy house and he locks them in their room. He then tries to get rid of them. First, by parking his car...

The End Of A Series Of Unfortunate Events
Review of The End: An Unforunate Series Of Events (Book 13) - Lemony Snicket by
cheesman88
Advantages: The Final Book in a fantastic series
Disadvantages: See review...
...Series of Unfortunate Events is a series of books by the fictional author Lemony Snicket (the author's real name is Daniel Handler). The series is Snicket's chronicle of the many many woes suffered by the three Baudelaire children.
"The End" is the thirteenth and final book in the series (on it's own it won't make much sense, so I highly recommend that before reading this one you read the twelve books before it), which to be honest is a good thing, because in the last few books the style and some of the ideas were starting to wear a little thin.. The Baudelaires float off from the fiery destruction they caused at the Hotel Denouncement, with their arch enemy Count Olaf sharing the boat. Soon they come across a mysterious island of superficiality and strongly set ways. It's difficult to talk about a sto | | |
