The University of Hertfordshire

Advantages: Good place to study, neat and new
Disadvantages: hatfield town centre, grrrrr

...The University of Hertfordshire has developed a wide range of full-time, part-time or post experience studies in collaboration with industrial, commercial and public sector employers, the graduate school provides a focus for postgraduate study reflecting the Universities commitment to this expanding area of its work. The University is made up of a number of different campuses each with its own character and facilities, At Hatfield the campus is the base for the Faculty of Arts and design, Engineering and Informational Sciences, Health and Human Sciences, Interdisciplinary Studies and of Natural Sciences. Also housed at the Hatfield campus is the Business school's department of Social Sciences. The Student Union is also well represented with the Union shop, a cosy bar entitled the 'Font Bar' and the elehouse which is packed...

The University of Hertfordshire

Advantages: modern learning resource centre
Disadvantages: some departments not very good due to lack of research

...The university of hertfordshire is one of the "new" universities in UK. But believe me it proves that new can be gold as well. It has an excellent learning resource centre, one of the best in the whole of UK. It has 4 research rating in departments like computer science and astronomy. The university is particularly good in fields of science, engineering and computers. The other aspect which makes this university stand out is the fee, it has one of the lowest fees compared to other UK universities. I am a research student at the university doing my M.Sc. in astrnomy by research. There is excellent research work going on in astronomy at the university. Hertfordshire is also a nice little place to live in. The university is spread over four different campuses with the main campus based in Hatfield. Hatfield is a little town with a mix...

this uni is cool :)

Advantages: everythings fab!
Disadvantages: HATFIELD

...As a fresher starting at this university in September this year I can say that the University is a great place to study. The whole experience that University life has offered so far has been brilliant and the University of Hertfordshire is fully equipped to offer all students a fab experience. The main draw to the University (academically) is the fact that courses can be mixed and matched; students originally planning to study history can find themselves studying as different language or accountancy! This diversity is encouraged in the University allowing students to choose options for themselves which they wouldn't have thought possible. These opportunities are given to all students. I am currently studying Spanish, Journalism, History and Philosophy! The courses are fun and very interactive. Even lectures which are traditionally...

Worcester University

Advantages: Accomodation, Student Union, Sports, Clubs, Library, IT, History
Disadvantages: Expense

...I've been here getting on for around a week now and I must say that I have had an excellent time so far. Before accepting the offer to go Worcester I travelled to it to investigate it and to see if it was for me. After travelling around some of the other universitys that I got into I came to the conclusion that this one was more for me conpared to any of the others. Size ********* I've found that its small which makes it quaint in my eyes and from my opinion however I find a city that is huge can be a little too big and can appear scary and overwhelming at times. Worcesters size is perfect offering up Night Clubs, Food, Shops and culture. The University was originally opened as an emergency teaching college until only recently in the last few years it has been granted the ability to become a university. This means it has being...

Astronomy at the University of Hertfordshire

Advantages: The best course in the country
Disadvantages: You won't want to leave!

...The University of Hertfordshire is an excellent place to study. Take it from me, I graduated in 2000 which isn't bad considering I originally didn't want to go there (Another story for another time)! I chose to study Astronomy and I was not disappointed. The course is well devised and is constantly being updated as new discoveries are made. The first year of the course introduces the basic aspects of astronomy as well as highlighting the physics behind everything. The course assumes no previous knowledge of Astronomy, although this does not affect the standard of teaching. The second year allows you to develop a deeper knowledge of the "why" behind things. It prepares you well for both the final year and for the sandwich year, depending on your choices. The third year can be spent in research if you want to. Bearing in...

What a uni!

Advantages: Great friendly city, cheap living, good reputation, excellent computer facilities
Disadvantages: Traffic, not particularly cheap union

...I'm currently a second year student at the University of Leeds and I 100% recommend it!! COMPUTING FACILITIES **************************** I would say that one of the strengths of Leeds University is its number of computer clusters. It has absolutely loads! There are 29 clusters currently provided by ISS (the university's computer network people) with over 1600 computers between them. I am currently sat in a rather large cluster with many, many computers free. ISS also provide screens telling you where computers are free, if the cluster of your first choice is full; so you can pretty much always find a computer if you want one! ISS also offer quite extensive wireless coverage over the campus. This means you can take your own laptop into uni and connect to the Internet via the university network. One of the main wireless areas...

The University of Birmingham

Advantages: Great teaching, facilities, opportunites and social life
Disadvantages: i am only here for 3 years, wish it could be more.

...I am a student at the University of Birmingham in my first year of the popular course; Sports and Exercise Sciences. Although it is a difficult university to get in to, there are hundreds of different courses to choose from if you are not accepted on your favoured course. Also, they are quite lenient with grades as I did not achieve the expected marks but still got in... shhh! So what made Birmingham my number one choice? As soon as I arrived at the open day and got a walk around the campus I knew this was the place for me. Not only is it one of the leading universities in the UK for my course it is a beautiful place to study with its landmark clock tower, luscious all weather pitches and modern redbrick buildings. I felt right at home here and could picture myself studying here for the future. The Campus is located in Selly Oak...

Nottingham Trent University

Advantages: Great Uni. Fact!
Disadvantages: Disadvantages?!

...So, having just finished at Nottingham Trent University it made perfect sense to make this brief review on the place...trust me if I reviewed every aspect of life here that I've experienced it would equate to the length of War & Peace! Trent is officially the leading "new" university in the country and is predominantly a city-based campus, with two other campuses located at Clifton (about 5 miles south of the city) and Brackenhurst (a very rural campus based to the north-east). I spend three years there and had an awesome time. In my first year I was based at the Simpsons Halls of Residence, which are in the Lenton area of Nottingham. Although not the nicest area of the city, the halls were certainly some of the best. Having had coursemates and friends who were located at other halls such as Hampden and Sandby which are much closer...

My University

Advantages: great place, great people
Disadvantages: new so still improving

...Introduction I have been a student at the University of Gloucestershire for 2 years now. I am on a year out, but will be going back to do my 3rd and final year to complete my Business Management degree. My time at the university has been very memorable and I am looking forward to going back and finishing my course. I have thought about whether I made the right decision choosing this university over the large number of other universities available around the country, but I do not regret the decision I have made. I have made many great friends and love the environment of the university. Campuses The University of Gloucestershire is split up into four campuses: Park, Francis Close Hall, Oxstalls and Pittville. Park campus is known as 'The Business School'. Those studying any business related courses, hospitality...

Diamond review  University Life

Advantages: reputation, sports, teaching
Disadvantages: on a hill, shops + banks

...Having been a fresher here at bath for 8 weeks now I feel the need, nay, duty to write a review on the university. I've already done a freshers review on "things beginning with F" if you want to hear about how great (or rather average) freshers week was. But this is going to focus more on the university. I'm currently on a 4 year physics masters course here at Bath. -------------------- Reputation -------------------- I don't believe in league tables and all that rubbish. The trend seems to be that the more time the university spends on fiddling it's figures to make it look good, the less time it can spend on teaching. I didn't apply to Oxford or Cambridge for two reasons. Firstly, I wouldn't be able to get in. Secondly I know it would be full of people who only applied because of the name and who could succeed better...
