great hotel ... deserves a much better rating
Review of Quality Hotel, Newcastle-upon-Tyne by  martinkearns987

Advantages: great prices ... offers always on ... great (well cooked) food
Disadvantages: noisy at new year and christmas i have heard ... (what do you expect)

...i thought this hotel was fantastic in my personal experience ... i travelled from shrewsbury ... up to newcastle to watch the famous newcastle united fc with some family members ... i was rather pleasantly suprised when i found myself at the hotel ... only minutes away from the station ... this was very pleasing ... the hotel was very cheap ... i didn't pay but we got a very good deal ... it worked out to about £13 per person ... per night ... as we only stayed for one night ... the hotel was fantastic quality as the name sugests and deserves much more than 2 star ... i'd personally rate it at 3/4 ... 4 at a push maybe with a slight redecoration and some younger, sexier staff ... :P ... the rooms were very pleasant ... spacious and were basicly furnished with iron ... ironing board ... TV ... Sky via payment ... same... Read review

Nissan Primera 2.0 Sport
Review of Nissan Primera 2.0 by  PhilipHales

Advantages: Comfortable, safe car to drive with the power when needed.
Disadvantages: None spring to mind

...I purchased my Nissan Primera 2.0 Sport in March, it was 6 months old W plate and had done 3,045 miles. Since then I have covered 11,000 miles averaging 38.5 mpg at a reasonable 70 mph. The car drives and handles very well. We use it at weekends - once a month for a trip to Newcastle-upon-tyne, from Sittingbourne and once a month to Bournemouth. So we do a minimum of 1,500 miles per month. It is comfortable and has enough things to change (seat position for height, rake, steering wheel etc.)when we share driving without it becoming a pain. All switches etc. are easily reachable. Outlook from the car is good. It is a pleasure to drive. It is my first privately owned car for 20+ years, having had a variety of Vauhalls, odd Ford and Peugeot. Last company car being a Passat, which was the best Co. car I have had. The Primera... Smooth landings
Review of Premier Travel Inn Newcastle - Airport, Newcastle-upon-Tyne by  andyk910

Advantages: Great price, comfortable, good food, family friendly
Disadvantages: None

...served and well cooked. Wine prices were reasonable, too. **Arrival** Check-in as standard is 3pm and check-out 12 noon. The process was quite smooth. I have found it advantageous with this chain and others to print off a copy of my booking confirmation and take it with me. I had pre-booked breakfast and so I was expected to pay for the room for one night and for breakfast the following morning on arrival. Everything else is on a pay-as-you-go basis. **What else do they offer you?** There are meeting rooms available, but that is about it. **What is nearby?** The clue is certainly in the name of the hotel: Premier Travel Inn Newcastle International Airport tells you what you need to know - it is 500 yards from the arrivals door at the airport. There is also a Newcastle-upon-Tyne Metro station more or less outside... Read review

La Tasca? Non, gracias
Review of La Tasca, Newcastle upon Tyne by  fizzytom

Advantages: Quick service, good wine
Disadvantages: Bland food, over-priced, no atmosphere, toilets, chain

...that don't require cutlery. So, going to eat tapas at a chain restaurant was going to test me. Would the food be authentic, would the place have any atmosphere and could they make the tapas thing work? LA TASCA, NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE The restaurant is situated just behind the Quayside, not quite on the front but it has half a view of the river. Behind it is a multi-storey carpark and next door is the Malmaison Hotel. From the carpark you can enter the restaurant by the back door but there are half a dozen stairs which may cause problems for some customers. You can walk down the path at the side of the restaurant and enter by the front door if this is a problem for any of your party. The Q2, a bright yellow electric bus, runs from the city centre to the restaurant every ten minutes during the day, twenty in the evenings. The bar... Read review

Fill up on tapas
Review of La Tasca, Newcastle upon Tyne by  danielalong

Advantages: Lots of food
Disadvantages: It's a chain

...with or without food are normal city centre prices- around the £2 mark for a glass of wine, and whilst the sangria is £3.15 a glass, I usually find it better value to order a pitcher, which at £11.95 represents much better value! We tend to order a few things from each section, so that we get a bit of everything, although last time we had the set menu. The food comes in small dishes, and when they are served, each dish is explained to you, unless it’s completely self explanatory (like the salad). The dishes always seem quite small, until you start to eat, and then it’s incredible how quickly you are filled. CONTACT DETAILS: Address: 106 Quayside, Newcastle upon Tyne. NE1 3DX Telephone: 0191 2304006 Fax: 0191 2304007 Website: www.latasca.co.uk. The website is actually quite detailed and you can even book a table online. VERDICT: We... Read review

I like it
Review of As You Like It, Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne by  danielalong

Advantages: Good atmosphere and hearty portions
Disadvantages: May be too much entertainment at the weekend!

...favourite!). There are also plenty of smoothies to order, which are £3 each. ~~Other bits of information~~ From the restaurant the toilets are two floors down, so quite a walk. I suggest that you wait until you are in the bar! Thankfully, however, once you have made the journey, the toilets are clean, modern and plentiful. Saturday breakfast menu is served from 10 am till 5pmand the fixed price lunch menu at £9.95 for two courses is served from 12 noon till 2.30pm. ~~Address and contact information~~ www.asyoulikeitjesmond.com. The website has all the information you are ever likely to need, and quite a lot you don't! Archbold Tce., Jesmond Newcastle upon Tyne NE2 1DB Tel: 01912812277 ~~Verdict~~ For good food and big portions, I would recommend this place. The staff are friendly and courteous, and offer good... A Very Glassy (sic) Hotel!
Review of Newcastle Marriott Metrocentre Hotel by  andymcf

Advantages: Very convenient location; extremely comfortable hotel.
Disadvantages: If I MUST find one, it would be that we had to ask three times for a cot. Otherwise, tickety-boo in all respects.

...Having recently visited Amanda’s parents in Scotland, we decided to split up the return journey by stopping off in Newcastle – it’s a very long drive otherwise and, whilst not exactly halfway distance-wise, it actually made an excellent stop-off point. Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, in the North East of England, has heaps going for it and Amanda found herself in shoppers’ heaven at the adjacent Metrocentre shopping mall. Baby Josh didn’t do too badly out of the deal either, leaving with bags full of goodies from the “Warner Bros” store and “Toys R Us”. Having selected Newcastle as our destination, I decided to book via “Priceline”. To be honest, I’m something of a Hilton fan and I knew that Hilton had just opened a brand new hotel in Newcastle, which I was very keen to try. With “Priceline”, however, the luxury of choice is denied and you have... Read review

The last supper
Review of Top Wok Chinese Takeaway, Newcastle Upon Tyne by  Amy69

Advantages: tasty, filling, not too pricey
Disadvantages: dodgy delivery guy, tough meat

...worth the cost (saying that, I wasn't the one who paid for it!). The rest of my family were quite pleased with their meals too, which is always good! The Top Wok Chinese Takeaway in situated in Whickham Industrial Estate on Swalwell Bank, Newcastle Upon Tyne. Although it's closed on a Monday, it's open Tuesday - Sunday from 5:30pm until 11:00pm. Delivery charges cost as little as £1 for a 3 mile radius, but can be as much as £1.50. They ask you to allow up to 45 minutes for delivery too. Would I order again from the Top Wok then? Well, never say never, but no time soon! © Amy 2008 (picture to come)... Read review

A better return than roulette
Review of Freya's Restaurant at Aspers Casino, Newcastle upon Tyne by  fizzytom

Advantages: Delicious food
Disadvantages: Waiting time for food, smell from casino fast food, noise from casino

...Freya’s Restaurant is part of the Aspers Casino Complex in the hideous eyesore that is “The Gate” in Newcastle upon Tyne. You must be a member to book a table but membership is free and you can join on the spot so long as you have an item of photo ID with you. The casino chain Aspers belongs to Damien Aspinall (also owner of the terrific Howletts Animal Park in Kent) and the restaurant is named after the daughter he has with Geordie-made-good ex-Byker Grove actress and model Donna Air. The restaurant is situated on the upper floor which is also where you’ll find the gaming areas. There is a comfortable bar downstairs where you could enjoy drinks before or after dining. We wanted to a book a table for dinner and then have a drink but the receptionist said we needed to book directly with the restaurant ourselves; given the high... Read review
