THE BEST UNIVERSITY IN THE UK!!!!!
Review of Portsmouth University by
PaulineLees
Advantages: Seaside! Weather, people, place, everything!!! I love it here!
Disadvantages: None!
...late or indeed not return them at all. The standard charge is £0.05 every day your are late. Eventually as with most places you will be charged for the book if you do not return it. You can extend your loan online or by phoning the library, or just popping in and having it updated. This is very useful. You are also reminded a few days before your due date by e-mail, that the book needs to be renewed or returned within a few days.
My first year involved a lot of Studio work, so my experience of lecture theatres is not vast. The ones I have been in range in quality. None of been poor, but depending on which building you are in, depends on what type of lecture theatre you have. Most are well maintained, with air con and all the neccessary teaching gadgets, projectors, microphones etc. Bit by bit the University is undergoing a revamp, which...

Logitech Harmony 525 Advanced Universal Remote
Review of Logitech Harmony 525 Advanced Universal Remote Infrared Universal remote control for Audio system, DVD player, VCR, TV, DVR by
animalsticks
Advantages: Control many devices using Infrared - easy to setup
Disadvantages: Can't control bluetooth or FM devices
...The Logitech Harmony 525 Advanced Universal Remote is used to control multiple devices in audio and visual systems (ie your tv, video, digital box, music players etc)
Currently we use one to control an AV receiver, digital box and projector. Personally i think this is the best one i've used.
Although initially to set up takes a bit of time
(you have to load a program onto a computer and then add devices to the remote using the provided usb cable),
the time it saves in day to day use and the practicality of one remote makes it a worthwhile task.
If there is not a system listed that you want to control it has a neat feature which allow you to add other 'unknown' remote signals - its so easy - you just tell it you're going to add an 'unknown' and then point the 'unknown' systems remote at the logitech remote and it asks...

Centrally located but top of the pile!
Review of Sheffield University by
lewisskinner
Advantages: Nightlife, good courses, great sport and a cheap cinema!
Disadvantages: Sheffield is Hilly, but saves on Gym membership!
...I'm a medical student, just entering my fourth year in August 2005, so in my three years here as an undergraduate, I've built up a good idea of the university and the city.
**** The University ****
- Background: The University is a traditional "red brick" university, and is a member of the Russell Group (the top 19 universities in the country, including Oxford, Cambridge and four of London's university colleges, like America's Ivy League). Many of the buildings are still in the traditional pretty red brick, including Firth Court (the Administrative centre), the Adisson and Alfred Denny Buildings (Biomedical sciences and biology/zoology/botany) and the Octagon centre. 29 subjects were rated "excellent" in the national Teaching Quality Assessments 1993-2001, the last time this survey was done (3rd in UK), 35 research areas gained 5...

Yay for York
Review of York University by
87degrees
Advantages: Brilliant societies, great teaching
Disadvantages: 60's concrete block buildings
...size and the fact it has good screens. V-045, in Vanbrugh, is another one I'm in frequently. It's alright most of the year, but gets very stuffy in hot weather.
Some of the lecturers are extremely interesting, with well-presented materials and good use of the overhead projectors and blackboards. Others seem intent on sending you to sleep. There were two modules I had last year that were hideously boring. The lecture slides were available on the computer science network and the lecturer said nothing that wasn't written on the slides.
I think whatever university you go to, you're going to get a mixture of the two, with quite a lot in the middle. York does ask students to fill out questionaires about the teaching and I think some lecturers do take into account what's been said about them and try to improve.
We have a lot of computer...

Not the Bog that the name suggests
Review of Chichester University by
dingmeister_2k
Advantages: A great caring community spirit.
Disadvantages: No parking on campus for residential students.
...When it comes to chosing the ideal university, it all comes down to opinion. there's so many factors to take on boad; the type of course, the quality of the course, the facilities, the area surrounding, the social life, the distance from home, e.t.c. I have just completed my first year at Chichester University (it is actually now called University College Chichester, so I'll now refer to it as that, or UCC as more commonly known!), and I've loved it! It's mostly renouned for it's teaching courses but has a lot of other courses hapenning and the list is expanding. The UCC is split into two campuses; one in chichester and one in Bognor Regis.
I'll get my main personal reason out of the way first before talking about the university. I loved the community. UCC is a small place, with only 3000 students split onto two different campuses...

this uni is cool :)
Review of Hertfordshire University by
carlos2112
Advantages: everythings fab!
Disadvantages: HATFIELD
...As a fresher starting at this university in September this year I can say that the University is a great place to study. The whole experience that University life has offered so far has been brilliant and the University of Hertfordshire is fully equipped to offer all students a fab experience. The main draw to the University (academically) is the fact that courses can be mixed and matched; students originally planning to study history can find themselves studying as different language or accountancy! This diversity is encouraged in the University allowing students to choose options for themselves which they wouldn't have thought possible. These opportunities are given to all students.
I am currently studying Spanish, Journalism, History and Philosophy! The courses are fun and very interactive. Even lectures which are traditionally...

Thanks Nottingham!
Review of Nottingham University by
j22o2
Advantages: Excellent campus, good rep and generally awesome
Disadvantages: campus is massive
..., communicate with your tutors and lecturers, find reading lists, get updates on module announcements etc...and access is everywhere, some sites even have wireless access. Sports facilities are pretty good, the campus gym is well equipped with a lot of cardio equipment, fixed weights and a free weights room. The lecture theatres all have projectors mics etc...and fairly new furnishings and best of all they are mostly all above ground! Essentially this is a really well though out uni which is rally well maintained and have everything you could possibly ask for all on campus and if its not on the campus you on you can jump on the free hopper bus which comes every 15 minutes and takes you to the other campus...Jubilee.
On the whole the University is pretty awesome and I can say that from the privileged position of having another Uni to compare...

Toshiba TLP-S30 A Form Over Function Projector
Review of Toshiba TLP S30 by
taylora-2006
Advantages: Looks Great - Very Stylish, Compact & Very Light.
Disadvantages: Not Bright Enough At All
...The Toshiba TLP-S30 Projector
This projector is very aesthetically pleasing, it looks very modern and and the face of it looks to be a great projector.
There are several important factors to look at when considering buying a projector and that is the brightness. This projector boasts a 1400 lumen lamp. For those of you who aren't used to projector terminology, lumens are just a unit for the measure of how bright the bulb in a projector is (and lamp is just the correct term for a projector bulb) Now this isn't an amazing brightness, but the Sanyo PLC-SU20 (just as an example) works comfortably at 1200 lumens and around 1500 lumens is really what somebody new to projectors should probably be looking at.
So the brightness of this projector is good then you woul think. Well actually no; On paper the projector should perform very...

A STUDENT'S VIEW
Review of Glamorgan University by
mdstone
Advantages: excellent facilities for students
Disadvantages: you have to pay 50p per day parking if you come by car
...I have been studying at Glamorgan University for 2 years now and I can truthfully say that it is one of the best in wales. It is situated just off the A470 at the Pontpridd turnoff opposite Pontypridd college, which is a 20 minute drive from Cardiff.
At first I didn't know what to expect, but I was pleased with the outcome. I quickly made friends and settled in nicely and I have no regrets about choosing Glamorgan.
The facilities for students are excellent, with 1000's of computers a huge library, cash point machines, travel shop and newsagents, 2 bars, a restuarant, 3 snackbars, a club and a large sporting complex, which includes a fitness room, sports hall for football, basketball, hockey and netball and a pool table with big screen sky tv. If your living in the halls of residence, then it is no more than a few minutes walk...

Possibly the best university in hampshire?
Review of Southampton University by
newb00ts
Advantages: Quality of teaching and facilities
Disadvantages: Lack of accomodation
...When people think of Southampton as a city what they probably think is that its on the coast (not quite true as its the solent), its a major cruise port, its got a premier league football club and its near to the New Forest. All of the above are true but very few people will say when asked that it has one of the best Universities in the country, a member of the prestigious Russell group.
I came to Southampton as a fresh faced undergraduate in 1997 not sure what to expect. I've been here 7 years now and before leaving this year it seemed like time to write a review of the University. Southampton itself is a thriving and vibrant student city with a student population of over 50,000 and a general population of over 250,000.
----Location----
Southampton has a great location in the center of the south coast around 1 hour drive...
