Good But Grey
Review of Aberdeen University by
jjqburch
Advantages: Teaching, support, facilities, fun
Disadvantages: Weather, city, house prices
...Aberdeen – the Granite City. Aberdeen is in the north-east of Scotland, and has two universities – the Robert Gorgon (RGU), and Aberdeen University – the latter being the fourth oldest uni in Britain. Both universities have campuses spread out over the city, but their main buildings are close to the centre.
First the good points…
Aberdeen University is great – they do plenty of courses and they are flexible (so you can change courses right up to the last year, and also change uni’s if you want). The teaching staff are better than average and technically, it seems well equipped. Unless you are a medical student, most classes/lectures are held around the Old Aberdeen part of town which is nice for its architecture and charm. There are certainly a few nice buildings around and good transport links to the city centre. The Uni owns...

Learning on the star lit horizon!
Review of Aberdeen University by
radiation_vibe
Advantages: Warm friendly atmosphere, good courses, great pastoral care, good transport links - very friendly!!
Disadvantages: Icy pavements in winter and the city is far from most other cities
...Deciding which university to attend is always a difficult decision to make. My decision to come to Aberdeen to study at Aberdeen University admittedly was a last minute one (that is another story…) and although it is far different to what I expected it to be, I’m glad I made the decision to move up here.
Aberdeen is a beautiful city, despite what people say about Aberdeen being ‘dull’ and ‘grey’ it is incredibly picturesque be it during the night or throughout the day. Last night for example, my flatmate and I went to take some photos of the city at night for a website that is being developed and the scenery was stunning. A dark sky backdrop with little lights lining the horizon and the beauty of scenery doesn’t stop there by any means… During the day the architecture of the city can be admired for as long as one wishes. Around every...

What a hole
Review of Aberdeen University by
Roadrunner
Advantages: Great University; good nightlife; top law school.
Disadvantages: What a dump.
...blocks of flats dotted around the eastern end of the city, and the rich oil barons and businessmen who visit the swanky hotels, live in the glorious west end townhouses and yet no doubt wish the oil capital of Europe was on the south coast of France.
Having spent a summer in Aberdeen, seeing how the city survives when the students who attend Aberdeen University, Robert Gordon University, Northern College, Aberdeen College or any of the other seats of education in the city have all buggered off home, I can safely say that it is these students who keep the pulse of the city going and prevent it from becoming Dundee.
The first two years of my course at Aberdeen University were a blast – I lived in Johnston Halls for my first year, along with the sons and daughters of most of the major landowners in England and Wales, and in Spring...

For those who Play Hard, and Work Hard
Review of Aberdeen University by
cl_appleton
Advantages: Good courses, teaching methods, and transport.
Disadvantages: Weather!
...Where to begin...
The main campus of the University of Aberdeen is located in Old Aberdeen, to the North West of the city, just south of the River Don. It is ten minute walk from the main campus to the city centre, and there is a bus route that runs from campus to centre every 15 minutes during term time.
There are over 12,000 students studying at the University of Aberdeen, of 115 different nationalities.
The University also takes part in exchanges with universities both in North America (21 in total), and in European countries (19 in total) through Socrates/Erasmus. I met three of my best friends when they came to Aberdeen through the exchange scheme. One friend from Rhodes University in Tennessee, USA, one from Haverford, Pennsylvania,USA and one from University of Oregon, USA.
There are 450 different courses offered...

The uni with two faces
Review of Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen by
db163
Advantages: Placement year, Strong industry ties, comprehensive list of courses
Disadvantages: Currently switching between campuses, Cost of living in Aberdeen is rather high
...I've just finished my first year at The Rober Gordon University (RGU) studying BSc. Computer Network Management and Design and have found it to be a fantastic experience, despite the fact that they are in the process of moving all the old buildings in the city centre campus out to Garthdee.
Firstly The Pros:
One Year Placement:
RGU offers a one year placement on many courses, allowing students to gain invaluable experience in industry while earning some extra cash. As most employers now require you have at least a years experience it's no surprise this is one of the key factors for many students deciding where to study.
Strong industry ties:
RGU prides itself in being one of the most well connected universities in the world, inviting in guest industry speakers and offering industry body accredited training and qualifications...
