Brighton University - The real deal
Review of Brighton University by  alexnicholson

Advantages: Nightlife, Education, Vibe, Atmosphere.
Disadvantages: Not that cheap, accomodation bit of a distance away.

...Brighton University, first time around, was my second choice. That was 3 years ago. Now I have finished the first year of my course there, and have to say it should have been first choice straight from the start. The University itself is situated approx 1 mile from the centre, a bit of a trek, but found that the buses and trains are fabulous. If you are looking for a University which has the student as the top priority, the education and facilities Brighton has is extremely good. On the Brighton Campus it is made up of 3 buildings, all within walking distance, along the main Lewes road, which comes out of Brighton, and the range of course are fairly good. The pharmacy side, IT and business are very well catered for. Check up on the rest in the UCAS books. The town itself? Well, with the vibe, atmosphere and variety, you will never... Read review

Brighton is Best
Review of Brighton University by  sambouc

Advantages: location, nightlife, facilities
Disadvantages: can be expensive

...I graduated from Brighton University last summer after four years there doing a degree in education and business studies. The university is spread over several campuses some closer to the city centre than others. I was at the Falmer campus which is right on the outskirts of the city about a ten minute drive from the centre. The facilities there were average with a student bar, cafe restaurant, large library and computer suite. Parking there is limited but a bus from the centre goes there reguarly and there is a park and ride service and the train stops practically outside the uni. There are also some lovely new halls of residence situated there. The other main campus is nearer to the centre of the city and has a huge well equipped library, cafe/restaurant, bank and computer suites. There are halls of residence scattered... Read review

The University no one has heard of!
Review of Sussex University, Brighton by  ruth_emily

Advantages: Having everything on campus is very convenient
Disadvantages: But not so convenient when you don't live on campus

...I have been at Sussex University for just over a year now, and the main reaction that I get when I tell people of my generation (I'm 19) that I come here, is that they haven't hear of it! This may be because I know mainly people from 'up north', and perhaps Sussex is much better known 'down south', but it is a bit annoying when people haven't a clue about the place you study! People of my parents' generation who went to University tend to know Sussex though, probably because it was created in the 60s, and was a bit hotpot of revolutionary thinking both with students and the staff at the time. Things have cooled down now, though, and the protesting that is still a reasonably large part of the feel of things here generally has no link to the staff, unless it is a protest against some decision the university has taken. And as far... Read review

Sussex University is great
Review of Sussex University, Brighton by  Athena

Advantages: Different way of studying, Brighton is a great place to be, is a fantastic campus.
Disadvantages: Accomodation on campus is tricky to get, is probably not as cheap as other (non-London) unis because Brighton is not a cheap place to live.

...I chose Sussex university because it is one of the few Universities in the country to offer the joint degree Computer Science with Artificical Intelligence (a mouthful, I know, but we know it as CSAI). Brighton is a pretty cool place to live, there's loads of clubs, bars, restaurants, pubs etc, and the Lanes is a fantastic place to go shopping (students, beware, Brighton is an easy place to spend lots of money in). But as for the University, they are one of the few places to work on a schools basis - ie the university is split into sections of schools, not departments. For example, I study CSAI in the school of CGOS (school of cognitive sciences). You can also study things like linguistics, plain computer science, philosophy and psychology in COGS, so there's a real crossover of interests. If you studied something like psychology... BRIGHTON ROCKS! MY HOMETOWN
Review of Brighton in general by  Mauri

Advantages: Lively, Entertaining, Good food, Good beer
Disadvantages: Can get busy

...shops, eating place and pubs all leading to the seafront promenade. *OVERALL* Brighton has never been a sleepy seaside resort and now it has shed its dirty weekend image it is a vibrant, multicultural, multiethnic community that likes to live it up. There is a wonderful cosmopolitan mix in the town; apart from the usual tourists the town has a huge number of language schools that bring many foreign students to stay every year. Brighton has two universities (Brighton University and Sussex University) nearby and this ensu res that the town has a high proportion of young people living and working here. The closeness to London makes it within commuting distance for many people and in recent years more and more people from London have decided to take advantage of slightly lower property prices in the town to live here while still... Brighton breezy.
Review of Brighton in general by  scraggly

Advantages: Easy to get to, something for everyone
Disadvantages: None that I can think of

...Before I start I must warn you that I'm very biased. I live in Brighton (or Hove actually as the saying goes) and I love it. I came here in 1994 to go to University of Sussex nearby and just never got round to leaving. If you're looking for somewhere to visit this summer let me try to entice you to Brighton. We're very proud of our newly acheived City status and we've got so much to offer. Whatever age you are and whatever interests you have Brighton will be bound to satisfy you. Lets start with some obvious basics. <How to get here.> Unless you live on the South Coast (in which case I'm sure you already know how to get here) the easiest way is to get to London Victoria. From there you can catch a train or coach to Brighton. There is an express train that takes less than an hour. Even the standard train takes less than two... Read review

Definative view on Brighton....
Review of Brighton & Hove Albion by  Djmilesno1

Advantages: Best fans, friendly team, community spirit
Disadvantages: Poor ground, poor finances

...I'm a BIG football fan, someone who wants to go to every single game. Unfortunately because of funds and University, I'm only able to go to a few games a season. I live just north of Brighton in a town called Haywards Heath. This is near enough to call Brighton and Hove Albion my 'Local' team, as it is only about 10/15 miles away. I've been support Brighton since around 1997 when they were facing being relegated from the Football League to the Conference. I have vivid memories of watching Final Score on BBC and seeing the score 'Hereford 1-1 Brighton', which meant we had survived for another season. History of the Club: Brighton were formed in 1901, and initially played at the County ground, which is the cricket ground in Hove used by Sussex even now. The club then moved to the Goldstone ground the next season, and gained... Read review

Brighton - My 1st and 2nd....
Review of Brighton University by  lisaterryuk

Advantages: Friendly, Sociable & an overall great city
Disadvantages: Busy, quite costly to live here

...I have been at Brighton Uni for 2 years now, studying BA Education at Falmer. Lovely place, environment is clean, people are generally nice and friendly and the facilities are all 5*. I would recommend Brighton Uni as it has literally everything you need to succeed in getting the degree you want. The student life is also amazing! I started off living at Paddock Field village the student living accomodation at Falmer campus, lovely rooms, en-suite, sharing a kitchen and lounge with 7 other people, who were all in the same boat as me, we got on really well... From Falmer to town you can catch a bus cheaply and also does a 24/7 bus if you want to go out during the evenings to the many nightclubs Brighton offers... Falmer has a big library, mainly for the education department and english but still focuses on many more subjects. Computers... Read review

Brighton :Vibrant,Cosmopolitan Seaside Resort
Review of Brighton in general by  ashford

Advantages: Lively, vibrant, cosmpolitan resort. Great dining out.
Disadvantages: Can get crowded during the season

...for visits to major attractions in the area such as Petworth House, Arundel Castle, 1066 country at Hastings, and local beauty spots like Devils Dyke. The best time to visit Brighton is during the summer months when it is at its most liveliest. There are some very good pubs and night clubs in town and you can also see well known entertainers performing in the Summer Shows. There are also folk, jazz, classical and rock music venues in this resort which also has a large student population, many of whom are at the University of Brighton or the nearby University of Sussex. All in all Brighton is a lively resort, a cosmopolitan place, and a combination of elegant Regency architecture and some down at heel buildings. Warts it most certainly has but it could not be described as dull. It's a good place for racy entertainment and if you enjoy... Read review

Brighton's remaining Pier (Only just though)
Review of Brighton Palace Pier by  pumfster

Advantages: Lots to do, good fun
Disadvantages: Crowded, bad attitude of Pier managers. Expensive rides

...Having just finished university after 3 years in Brighton it suddenly dawned on me that I had never written a review of Brighton’s' most famous landmark - the pier (well the surviving one anyway!!!) The Palace Pier has now been renamed as the Brighton Pier as the owners felt that people did not know location of the pier with its original title. Strange but true!!! So just for the owners - Brighton Pier is situated in the East Sussex coastal city of erm? Brighton, and is at the junction of the A259 and the A23 in the Old Steine part of the city. It is easily accessible by foot or from a small electric tram service from the nearby marina. The Pier itself was built in 1891 to replace the old Chain Pier which collapsed into the sea. Construction work was finally completed in 1899 and at 1722 ft long is one of the most impressive... Read review
