Bournemouth University

Advantages: Job oriented, good social life
Disadvantages: Not a top uni

...I am a recent graduate of Bournemouth University and have lived in the town for many years. The university cannot pretend to be one of the best in the country, but if you in its class it does very well. Most importantly, it's reputation is on the rise. The university is most definitely vocation oriented. So, if you are interested in academic research, forget this univesity. If you are looking for a job in the business world, then you should consider Bournemouth. I haven't done too badly: I have a good job with an international blue-chip company (currently working in Asia). The libraries are not huge, but acceptable. With regards to IT facilities, it is suggested that you have you own pc to avoid the crush at assignment deadlines. The town will be disappointing if you are coming from the bright lights of London, but as a provincial...

Ramada Encore Bournemouth - Customer Service Needs Improving

Advantages: Clean spacious rooms
Disadvantages: Customer service levels lets the hotel down

...The Ramada Encore in Bournemouth is a well placed hotel within walking distance of numerous bars and restaurants as well as the beach and surroundings attractions. At the time of writing there are over 70 Ramada hotels in the UK. ARRIVAL AND CHECK IN The hotel was easy enough to spot from the main road as it has a large sign in front to indicate its presence. We drove into the car park at the rear of the hotel and managed to find a parking space. There were also guest parking spaces at the front of the hotel and underground parking available with a lift to bring you up to reception. The car park has around 80 spaces. We were able to enter the hotel through the rear entrance and went to reception which was just a few yards away. There were two sets of people checking in but we didn?t have to wait as one set had just...

Heaps of fun, perhaps not much Uni work completed!

Advantages: Great reputation for certain courses, friendly & lively Uni, beautiful area
Disadvantages: Not a red brick uni, not worth going to unless you're on the reputable courses!

...First & foremost do not even bother looking at Bournemouth as a prospective university unless you are going to be part of the Media school. Im sorry to rubbish all the other courses but there really are better places to go! (However, i believe the Art College it good but then again I don't think it's part of the uni) However, if you are going to university just to have fun this is the place to do it! The beach is 7 miles of golden sand, the nightlife is really good and caters for all tastes so whether you're in to hip-hop, r'n'b, pop, heavy metal... whatever, you'll be happy in Bournemouth. The town is very pretty, the array of shops isn't vast but it's enough. Back to the point though, the University itself... In recent years they've added a really good library and loads more computers (however, I really would advise taking...

Why I chose Bournemouth

Advantages: Social life, beaches, vocational
Disadvantages: reputation as a retirement town, distance from London

...I have recently completed a 4yr degree at Bournemouth in Information Systems Management (now called Business Information Systems Management). I really enjoyed my 4 years there. Besides the course, Bournemouth has a great social scene with lods of bars and clubs (perhaps too many) and has been referred to as the UK's clubbing capital a number of times by popular club mag's. Being close to the coast is great for Summer too, the beaches are nice and clean and the water swimmable. Being a vocational university you also have the option of an industrial placement in your 3rd year. This will probably mean more to a future employer than your degree qualification will. Since my graduation I have had a number of offers - all impressed by my university background. Hope this helps, Ben....

Multi-Media Journalism at Bournemouth University

Advantages: Best reputation for a journalism course in the UK
Disadvantages: Not for the faint hearted - it's hard work!

...I am a current, first-year student at Bournemouth University, on the BA (Hons) Multi-Media Journalism course. I felt that it was about time I told you about the university and the course, as I always have "Journalism student" in my about me section, and often mention the fact that I am studying it here. So without further ado, I shall explain the course. Location of the programme The Multi-Media Journalism course takes place on Bournemouth University's Talbot Campus. The Media School is based in Weymouth House. In the last couple of years, an extension was built on the building, and it now looks very similar to the BBC Television Centre building in terms of style. It has been decorated with commissioned photographs of the local area, as well as clever, artistic images that make you think - for example there is a picture...

Welcome to Sunny Bournemouth !

Advantages: Centrally located hotel in Bournemouth
Disadvantages: Old building means prone to squeaky floorboards

...I recently had to attend a course for work, which involved several overnight stays in Bournemouth. I opted to stay in the RAC rated **** Norfolk Royale Hotel, located in the central town area of Bournemouth. Arriving at the hotel, there is an area at the front where you can drive in and park whilst you check in. (You can also park in this area overnight, or in the underground carpark - each charged at £9 per night). Checking in is straightforward - although you will need to leave credit / debit card details, but this is standard practice. Reception is in the lobby area - a plush, well furbished area with comfortable chairs, an open fire and a bar. You will be given a keycard, and told where your room is. (On my visits, a porter service was not visable, although may have been available on request). The hotel itself is quite old...

Queens hotel Bournemouth

Advantages: Great facilities and location
Disadvantages: Some rooms on the small side

...Getting there Our family stayed at the Queen?s Hotel Bournemouth for 2 nights back in May 2007. The drive down from North London is 112 miles and took around 3 Hours 20 Minutes which included a 30 minute stop over. The Hotel is located on Meyrick Road, just a minutes walk from the sea front and a 15 minute walk to the Pier. There is room for about 15 cars in the car park at the front of the Hotel, with room for a further 20 cars at the rear. This is free to use for guests and you give your car registration details when you check in. The hotel has 109 rooms and deluxe suites situated over 4 floors. There is a lift near the reception to all floors except lower ground which has just 6-8 steps, so the Hotel is ideal for the elderly. Rooms Choices of rooms range from four-poster bridal suite rooms to deluxe, family and executive...

Getting around Bournemouth

Advantages: The review tells the story
Disadvantages: The review tells the story

...INTRODUCTION I thought I would write about how to get around in Bournemouth for two main reasons. The first, is that I live here/there so I am in a good position to inform people about it. The second reason, is that Bournemouth is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the United KIngdom and many people will visit at some point during their life. Before I get into the main part of the review, I will say that travelling in Bournemouth isn't pretty good or easy. That's why people need to be informed. ROAD (CAR) Bournemouth is particularly prone to heavy traffic, throughout the year. The main reason for the large number of traffic jams on the road, is as a result of the road network. As Bournemouth has grown and developed, new roads and access have had to be built. It is impossible to reach some areas of the town...

Review of Getting Around in Bournemouth

Bournemouth Rocks

Advantages: Pls see op
Disadvantages: Pls see op

...I should probably start by declaring my interests. I grew up in Bournemouth, lived there from the ages of 5 to 20. It was ok. So I?m not a visitor or a tourist in the proper sense, but having lived away for 5 years has, I hope, given me a bit of critical distance. And so I begin? Bournemouth Town Bournemouth?s great. It?s compact enough to generally be able to get most central points on foot. It?s very busy in the summer with the massive influx of foreign students; Bournemouth has a ridiculous number of language schools and nearly everyone in the town is involved in some way or another, teachers, host families, pub landlords etc. It?s definitely quieter in the winter, but with the expanding university the population does seem to be getting more balanced season-wise. It?s a real mix of residential and commercial property...

A decent but basic 2 star hotel near Bournemouth Pier

Advantages: Good value for money and good location.
Disadvantages: Based on the price, none.

...I often stay in Bournemouth when visiting my Dad who only has a one bedroom flat. I have tried a few hotels and this one was okay. When I stayed in the hotel in September 2008 the rooms were undergoing a refit and being modernised. I managed to stay in one of the rooms that has already been modernised and it provided a comfortable stay. I paid £59 for a one night stay in a double room on a room only basis but this was still in high season. Room rates in low season are approximately £25 lower in price. The room had an en suite bathroom with a bath that had a shower head and shower screen built on to it. Their was an LCD TV screen mounted on the wall of the bedroom although the number of channels was fairly limited. Tea and coffee making facilities, extra pillows and blankets in a cupboard. The room was warm, adjustable central...
