Bradford a place for Depression
Review of Bradford University by
dj_ImY
Advantages: none really
Disadvantages: Everything else
...Bradford university is not a good uni at all!
I am studying a computing course here and am fed up of it after just a few weeks, The lectures are just endlessly boring powerpoint presentations and the lecturers are even more boring, many lack any kind of enthusiasm.
Most people come to uni to socialise and make friends i too went for the same reason but the reality at bradford is far far from what you might of read/heard about it in the prospectus or on a open day. Since i have been on my course i have not met any people, almost everyone is foreign and cannot even speak english well some don't even know how to use a computer and being a computing course it begs the question 'how does bradford uni take such students?'
I think i can answer that question quite simply all they care about is money, the foreign students get such good...

Bradford:Not as bad as it is painted !
Review of Bradford (England) by
ashford
Advantages: Friendly,multi-cultural,multi-ethnic city Great asian Food
Disadvantages: Unfashionable image. Some poor housing areas
...The much-maligned Yorkshire city of Bradford has had its detractors over the years and could fairly be described as rather unfashionable. However, a lot has changed in recent years and the city has become quite an important centre for tourism.
The city has several good hotels, the fine Alhambra theatre, the interesting quarter known as "Little Germany", a progressive University with a good reputation especially in business studies, the Museum of Film and Photography and it is a good base for tours to Bronte Country, and to the lovely Yorkshire Dales. Both soccer and rugby league are popular in Bradford and Bradford City AFC are a Premier Division team. Bradford Northern are the Rugby League team.
Bradford has always had a large immigrant community and today if you want to sample the "Flavours of Asia" there is probably no city...

Distance Learning
Review of Bradford University by
mjthebabe
Advantages: Studying from home
Disadvantages: Do not have the personal touch
...Well Im just about to start on my second module of my degree at Bradford University and I don't live anywhere near Bradford.
The reason being is that it is a distance learning course which I can do part time whilst working full time.
I wanted to study a subject that was related to my work and Bradford came up trumps.
The course is specialising in dementia care, which is the area of which I work in and although I am living near a university it does not cover any of the modules that Bradford does.
I needed to go to Bradford for an induction and found that the University was easy to get to, but I had to find the Health Building and it was snowing , therefore I think I walked a little further than I needed. I then thought that I would have been probably better to get a taxi. Which I did on the return to the train station.
The university...

Civil Engineers / Environmental Managers - go elsewhere!
Review of Bradford University by
Luso
Advantages: One only - Bradford is cheap.
Disadvantages: Many, read opinions.
...Having been temporarily a student at Bradford University, I can assure you it's not a nice place to go to. I manage to get a transfer out, but I was lucky. Bradford itself is a fairly quiet city, with an awful architecture and planning. The University of Bradford is a bottom of the class University except for the Peace Studies Department and the Management Centre based degrees. Even so, the Peace Studies department was under threat of being extinct as they could not get funding and the Management Centre is trying to become an independent educational institution. It has a small library, a computer centre that simply does not work (they had their servers hacked recently, this shows how the professionals are) and a Sports Centre that is very poor.
My experience was with the Civil and Environmental Engineering department. Once...

Best four years of my life
Review of Bradford University by
mattchew
Advantages: Excellent reputation in Archaeology, Peace Studies, Management, Pharmacy
Disadvantages: Bands on tour don't often come to the city
...of live bands playing in the city. Any taste that Bradford cannot serve can be met by Leeds, a £1.30 train ride away.
Curries are plentiful, cheap and quite possibly the best in the country (a meal costs around £5).
The city is good place to live with the majority of the campus being only 10 minutes walk from the city centre. There is a very low crime rate for a city of this size, especially when compared to cities like Nottingham which have been rated the most violent in the country.
The University of Bradford is a good solid institution with some very highly rated departments and courses. I do not hesitate in recommending it....

Open University - Keep On Learning.
Review of Open University Milton Keynes by
Gill_J
Advantages: You are learning at home in your own time.
Disadvantages: You have to be motivated and keep focussed.
...to become a well educated Aromatherapy Practioner.
This had led me to my local University which is Bradford and I found that they did do a Practioner level course in Aromatherapy, now the thing is that the next in take is not until next year but the instructor was willing to let me take part in a few lessons and get the feel of the course, it takes 2 years so it is a big commitment to make.
She then began to talk to me about the other courses that she advised people to take if they were considering working in the Health profession. She gave me two booklets and they were to make a big change to me.
The Booklets were the Undergraduate Courses Catalogue and the Diploma and Degrees Prospectus of the Open University, now the one of interest to me initially was the Undergraduates Courses and on opening the A4 sizes thick booklet I found...

Good start for translators
Review of Bradford University by
bayleaf
Advantages: good job prospects afterwards
Disadvantages: Bradford is up North (for all you Southerners out there!)
...The Modern Language course at Bradford has the advantage that it prepares you well for the world of work. The emphasis is on translation and interpreting skills and a variety of topics / texts concerning political and economic issues are used. Literature is not obligatory but can be chosen as an option.
The number of former-polytechnics-now-universities offering language courses has risen in recent years but it still worth going to one of the more established unis. I am now translating in Austria and have contacts at the university here (translation studies). When you say you were in Bradford, they immediately warm to you. Bradford and Salford (the other uni which offers an almost literature-free curriculum) are well known in translation circles....

Good for Electronics
Review of Bradford University by
Cei
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...Bradford Uni is a good place to study electronics. The department is friendly, helpful and do their best to ensure that you come out with a worthwhile degree. The workshops and other facilities reasonably fitted out. The department also benefit's from the multitude of on going research projects, which make the university one of the best in the communications field.
The students union is also good, providing a lot of resources to help the student enjoy their time at the University. These range from sports and social clubs and interests to legal and finacual help, if required. Along with the clubs the Union also have a radio station, a regular magazine and a technical support agency for visiting bands/etc - all run by students. The Union also provides several Bars, one recognised by CAMERA...

Bradford City - Not so shitty
Review of Bradford City by
killip
Advantages: Big Div 1 side
Disadvantages: Only a small premiership side
...I am most proud to say that I support Bradford City Football Club. Not only because, as a Bradfordian, it is my moral obligation to support my home team, but also I feel that the team deserves success and does not deserve other Bradfordians snubbing them and refusing to support them because they are "crap". These people are not true Bradfordians and any Bradfordian who supports Leeds Utd wants shooting.
Bradford City AFC was the first Association Football Club in Bradford, and it started off as a rugby league club believe it or not. There used to be two rugby League clubs in Bradford - Bradford RLFC and Bradford Northern. Bradford RLFC became a football club in 1903 and was named "Manningham AFC" and later "Bradford City AFC" and after that Bradford Northern became "Bradford AFC" and later "Bradford Park Avenue AFC". Another team...
