'Transgender Jurisprudence: Dysphoric Bodies of Law is an important book. ! Sharpe's discussion [of trangender jurisprudence]! is convincing and thought-provoking, ! his observations incisive and legally persuasive ! [and] his examination of the fundamental heterosexism and phallocentricity of "reform" jurisprudence is brilliant.' -Queen's Law Journal (Vol 28(1) 2002 pp 363-369 at pp 365, 366, 368 and 369), Professor Bruce MacDougall of the Faculty of Law, University of British Columbia, Vancouver 'Transgender Jurisprudence is a work of the most careful and comprehensive scholarship ! [and] ! will, I have no doubt, be a standard resource to all those who have reason to work in the area, both as practicing lawyers, activists, or academics, in years to come.' -Sydney Law Review (Vol 24 2002 pp 442-448 at p 443), Professor Desmond Manderson, Canada Research Chair in Law & Discourse, McGill University, Montreal 'Transgender Jurisprudence provides an excellent, well-researched contribution to the fields of transgender studies and jurisprudence concerning gender and sexuality. ! It is also a valuable contribution to wider discussions concerning feminism, poststructuralism and queer studies.' -Res Publica (Vol 8(3) 2002 pp 275-283 at pp 282-283), Dr Surya Munro of the Department of Law, Keele University '[Sharpe] expresses the hope that the book has made an important contribution ...That it has done so is beyond doubt. Indeed more than a contribution, Sharpe has comprehensively reshaped and redefined the field of transgender jurisprudence. ! [T]he end result is a book which is not only sustained, integrated and comparative, but which introduces a set of original and sophisticated arguments that will provide an indispensable grounding for subsequent work in the field for some time to come.' -Griffith Law Review (Vol 12(2) 2003 pp 387-390 at p 390), Professor Rosemary Hunter, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Griffith University [Transgender Jurisprudence] has already become a fou ... less

The Book of Islamic Dynasties: A Celebration of Islamic History and Culture - Luqman Nagy

The Book of Islamic Dynasties presents in one concise volume an introduction to the many great Islamic dynasties that have arisen, shone and faded - like stars in the firmament - but have left the Muslim world all the richer. The subtitle, A Celebration of Islamic History and Culture, reflects the importance of the inspiring cultural legacies bequeathed to us by our Muslim ancestors and the enormous contributions made by Muslims to world civilization. Filled with beautiful hand painted illustrations to bring the text to life. This book will be a pleasure to read for both adolescents and adults and will insha'Allah enable the reader to better comprehend the complexities of life in today's Dar al-Islam. Luqman Nagy was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. He graduated from the University of British Columbia with graduate degrees in Library Science and Education and subsequently pursued Middle Eastern language studies at Ankara University (Turkish), Pahlavi [Shiraz] University (Persian), and Umm al-Qur'a University, Makkah (Arabic). Since 1970, he has traveled the length and breadth of Dar al-Islam several times always in search of traditional Islamic societies. He currently resides with his family in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia where he teaches at King Fahd University. As such, although it is as impossible to codify Islam as it is to codify life itself, it nevertheless provides the reader with a reliable checklist of the identifiable features of the Shari'ah which govern the fundamental milestones in life which most people experience during their life's journey: birth, childhood, marriage, divorce, death and inheritance. DR HASHIM MAHDI was born and educated in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia obtaining his PhD in the US and further qualifications in the UK. He is a fellow of the Islamic Academy, Cambridge and has been associated with the Muslim World League in various capacities for almost two and a half decades, currently holding the post of International Strategic ... less

Tofino on Vancouver Island - Everyone should visit!
Advantages: Stunning scenery
Disadvantages: Difficult to get to without a car
...Getting to Tofino
Tofino is a spectacular coastal town set on the Pacific rim of Vancouver Island. Vancouver Island itself is huge, it is about the size of the UK so don't let the word "Island" make you think it is tiny - it is not. A lot of it is inaccessible by road due to the gorgeous landscape. We hopped on the ferry from Horseshoe Bay Vancouver to Nanaimo. There are no direct ferries...

British Columbia - one of THE places to visit
Advantages: Good value, magnificent scenery everywhere
Disadvantages: Long flight to get there. Not much else!
...Going for a holiday almost half-way around the earth need'nt cost the same. In Feburary of 2004 my wife and I flew Air Canada to British Columbia on the west coast of Canada for a packed ten-day holiday with a view towards seeing if we liked the area well enough to consider emigrating there. Believe it or not, it was our first trip to Canada. This sounds quite a statement for such a potentially...

Paradise in BC
Advantages: Abundant wildlife, gorgeous scenery
Disadvantages: little in the way of public transport
...Vancouver Island is an island off the coast of Vancouver, on the south west coast of British Columbia, Canada. Ciao have been less than generous in describing it as a "Vancouver Experience", as far from being some sort of tourist attraction it is actually a large island home to the capital of British Columbia, Victoria, as well as some 750,000 inhabitants. At roughly 280 miles long, and 60...
