3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Access Point
Review of 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Access Point by
matt_fantastic
Advantages: Bargain bundle with wireless card for my laptop
Disadvantages: Just an access point, no modem/hub/etc
...I use the 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Access Point in my home wireless network, and bought it as part of a bundle with a laptop wireless card - check my other reviews to see if I've got round to reviewing that too...
It used the IEEE 802.11g standard (data transfer speeds of up to 54Mbps), plus is backwards compatible with IEEE 802.11b (upto 11Mbps) so works with older equipment (such as a slightly outdated laptop from a previous employer) with no problems.
The included CD installed all the necessary drivers very quickly and also contains all the manuals in PDF format. Once the drivers were installed, the configuration wizard runs in a standard web browser. This involves configuring IP addresses, encryption settings, DHCP settings and other techy bits and bobs. This was pretty straightforward, although a basic knowledge...

Great Kit For Your First Wireless Network
Review of D-Link DSL 904 ADSL Wireless Router USB Starter Kit - wireless router by
sensortech2003
Advantages: Great setup kit for first time users
Disadvantages: Doesn't mention security during setup (but is included)
...Why did I choose it?
I'd had a broadband connection for quite some time and used a free modem that came from my ISP. There had never been any problems with the free modem, but it only allowed one computer to connect through it. We had bought a cheap second computer and wanted to be able to share files, printers, and most importantly the broadband connection. I was attracted to the D-Link DSL-904 as it was advertised as a "Wireless ADSL Router Kit". Since installation, I have gained quite a bit of knowledge on the technologies involved, but at the time of purchase, non of the other information available meant anything to me! The idea that everything I needed to connect two computers together came in a single box was very appealing as it could only make the whole process easier.
What's In The Box?
1. DSL-G604T Wireless ADSL...

Sony Home Cinema Speaker Upgrade Kit
Review of Sony HT-SF 1000 by
davidm385
Advantages: Excellent quality Brilliant sound good range of connections
Disadvantages: No in built DVD, audio not carried through the HDMI connector
...The Sony HTSF1000 Home Theatre upgrade kit was a purchase I made in June to round out my home cinema set up. The rest of my set up is as follows:
Sony Bravia KDL-S32A12U 32" HD ready TV - for more information please see my review of this set
Sony RDR-GX210 DVD Recorder
Sky HD box with integrated Sky+
A nice glass stand from John Lewis!
The whole system has been hooked up together since my Sky HD arrived in July, however I had been using the speaker system prior to that with my DVD recorder.
It is important to not early on that this system does not include a DVD player or recorder, which many Home Theatre systems include. If however you already have a DVD player or recorder that you are happy with, then this system is an excellent option to consider.
Specification

Brilliant upgrade from a kit lens
Review of Canon EF 28-105mm F3.5-4.5 II USM by
cherry_chariot
Advantages: Fabulous build quality, internal focusing, sheer optical quality
Disadvantages: Difficult to find genuine UK stock of latest model.
...I have recently been upgrading my entry level Canon EOS300 35mm camera and this was the ideal choice of lens. It is wide enough at the bottom and has a decent zoom range making it the perfect "walkaround" lens.
I did struggle to find it in stock in the UK from sources that would guarantee it was a UK model and not a grey import. In the end I ordered it from Jessops online and had them deliver it to their Winchester branch, so that I could collect it on the day of the wedding I was attending. Please be aware that this is the third iteration of this lens, the first had a flower to depict the macro function and five blades, the second had the word macro to depict the macro function and seven blades and this one has been subtley restyled and also has seven blades. To compund matters there is some uncertainty over whether the ones made...

Netgear DG834G v2 - lovely piece of kit
Review of NETGEAR DG834G 54 Mbps Wireless ADSL Firewall Router - wireless router by
gtsang123
Advantages: stylish, robust, wide range of features, WiFi and wired connectivity
Disadvantages: drops connection during lightning storms, manual slim on advanced features
....
Install the software on your PC and link it up either wirelessly, or plug an ethernet cable from the router to your PC (not provided). You will then need to follow the instructions to setup the router by connecting to it from your PC. There are 4 hardwired ports in the back, so you connect up to 4 PCs/laptops via ethernet cables - or you can connect up to it via WiFi - I'm not sure how many it will support that way, but it's definitely more than 4 (and as far as I know, no limit is indicated).
The router itself is a stylish piece of kit, and uses 802.11b and 802.11g, which were the latest standards a couple of years ago. the 802.11b was (and I guess still is) being used everywhere, and the 802.11g standard was a faster standard, but wasn't available in most places. I bought a NetGear WiFi USB adapter for my older laptop to connect up...

PCI Wireless 802.11G card for desktop PCs
Review of D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G DWL G520 by
bristol_steve
Advantages: Cheap-n-cheerful
Disadvantages: Slow connections and poor range with supplied antenna.
...Mobile 802.11g internal Mini-PCI card.)
With the third party aerial I am pleased with this card. A properly configured BSD desktop PC offers a better service than that available from far more expensive wireless access points… once you’ve gone to the trouble to set everything up. Not a product I'd recommend to the non-technically inclined though....

Explossion of yummy-ness
Review of Kit Kat by
hayleylewis676
Advantages: Delicious and there are four sticks
Disadvantages: There are only FOUR sticks
...:)
As for being healthy, well...we cant have everything can we? Each bar of 4 stick kit-kat contains 112 calories, and 11g of fat. On the plus side of this; there are most definitly more unhealthy chocolate bars to eat.
Kit-Kat now have different varieties of their classic on the market. Such as Kit-Kat chunky and those little Kit-Kat segments in a bag. I personally find the later silly because there arnt enough of them to warrent spending the extra money. So making the standard Kit-Kat bars the most value for money.
And also the original flavour is by far superior to those flavored mint and orange.
So in conclusion...buy kit-kat, its delicious and NOT sutiable for sharing ;)...

Upgrading from Windows ME to XP Home
Review of Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade package by
mwl1
Advantages: stable o/s, easy to upgrade
Disadvantages: possible long download times to update if you have a slow Internet connection
...per day (for example, if you download images from a digital camera and then unplug the camera without “stopping” the ‘removable storage device’ the PC will fall over).
They were told by one service engineer that the cost of upgrading the operating system on their laptop – taking into account the software cost and his time – would be comparable to buying a new machine: at this point I intervened and undertook to do some research to find out if this was true (it did not sound right to me, even in today’s disposable age).
I have used a variety of operating systems over the years, commencing with early versions of DOS and covering Apple Mac. My own first home computer was an ex-work 386 desktop (which cost me £25!) running DOS 3.1 which, once I’d realised its limitations, was replaced by a Pentium-based machine running Windows 95...

How I get upgraded flying with BA to the States
Review of Member Advice on Flight Upgrades by
paul1970
Advantages: Travel in comfort, get decent food & free booze
Disadvantages: Er, none whatsoever
...yours up means that you're starting from a position of relative strength.
I know that this system will not be relevant to everyone - e.g. some people do have a real need for a seat with extra legroom, but if, like me you're lucky enough to be able-bodied and possessing a modicum of self-confidence, then I'd urge you to give it a try.
On a recent trip to JFK from Heathrow, my girlfriend and I both got upgraded, and both her parents also got upgraded on their flight from Manchester. We had all checked in online separately the day before our flight, and moved seats as described above.
I checked us in online at an internet cafe in NY the day before flying home and it worked again - upgraded for the return journey. Remember what I said about dressing smartly? The check-in lady actually stood up and took a look at our feet to make sure...
