...While awaiting inspiration for a new review, I remembered that this one was overdue for an update. Although I rewrote it a year or so ago for Dooyoo, to include selected items from handbag reviews posted over there, I never got round to revising the Ciao version. So here it is. All the articles mentioned appeared in reviews by women on one site or the other. * What have I in my handbag? I mustn't tell you lies; In truth the only bags I own Are those beneath my eyes. You don't need special insight, No expertise in rockets, To guess that, being just a man, I keep stuff in my pockets. But if I now said: "Nothing! So there, and that?s your lot!" Vaccum Storage Bags

Advantages: Space Saving Ideas for Home and Abroad
Disadvantages: None I can think of

...I love this idea, whoever thought this up is a genius. A lot of families have storage problems my main pain in the backside is lack of room for excess bedding that i keep spare for guests and what not, So this is magnificent, how the air can be sucked out of the bag with any pipe vacuum cleaner and reduce the size of package to less than a quarter of the size. Brilliant for duvets and pillows i might add and to top it all off it keeps all those bugs away and when you do unpack them they smell as good as the day you washed them and put the items in there. Excellent I would rate these to anybody you can even use them for going abroad and storing your much loved items and reducing space which we all know must happen when traveling on a plane think of the goodies you can bring back !! Although I have never tries them in my suitcase while...

Bags of jiffy bag envelopes

Advantages: padds some fragile goods

...I received a DVD in a jiffy bag recently opened the bag carefully and put the bag ready to reuse with about 20 other old jiffy bags I have ready for recycling. Actually I am not sure that all of them are genuine jiffy bags but they are the same sort of thing. Jiffy bags made by Jiffy have been available for several years now I think they go back to the 1950?s. Jiffy bags are handy padded envelope bags that can be bought in a variety of sizes some as small as to 164 x 285mm, then several sizes upwards to 247 x 387mm, probably even larger ones available. The original bag is a golden brown heavy duty paper. The padded filling can be as simple as shredded paper. The envelope closures are one you peel to reveal a sticky surface this will then stick to seal the bag and contents. Some jiffy bags are filled with a macerated...

Review of Jiffy Padded Bag Envelopes

Hoover Dustmanager Bagless Upright Cleaner.

Advantages: Extra long stair hose.
Disadvantages: Short flex.

...This hoover looks great but Im a little disappointed with it. The flex is shorter than an old hoover model that broke down after 11yrs of service. The handle seems shorter. Also you can't feel the suction from the front of the cleaner, I know im comparing it with the old model but I can't help it. The tools are in an inconvenient place at the back of the hoover because it make's it difficult to reattach the hose after stair cleaning. ( They get in the way). The bagless cassette you empty is small and for a larger house needs emptying at least twice. I have a black lab and we get alot of dog hair's i found it annoying not only emptying the cassette but also the pull out filter as it got clogged up with dog hair's , I accidently sucked up a grape and found that in the filter and not in the cassette , so watch you don't hoover up...

PROBABLY THE MOST POWERFUL UPRIGHT VACUUM CLEANER

Advantages: effective cleaning of carpets and upholstery etc.
Disadvantages: At 8.6kg slightly on the heavy side if you need to carry it about.

Oreck Upright XL

Advantages: Very light weight and small.
Disadvantages: Spares have to be shipped from America, gets blocked up easily, can't cope with too much dirt, hard to take appart for repairs, bag hard to change,

...My mother pruchased an Oreck vacuum cleaner about 5 or 6 years ago after seeing them advertised on the television. She was taken in by how light and efficient they were supposed to be. When our Oreck arrived, we were all amazed at how light it actually was. I was able to lift it with just a few fingers, which made it very easy to cart around our house (which is built on a hill and has many steps). We were also impressed at how well it cleaned. It seemed to get all the grit, dust, soil and animal hairs out of the carpet with little effort and without us sweeping over the same area over and over and over. But then things started to go wrong. The Oreck was not good at coping with long hairs and they often got caught up in the sweeper bits (sorry, I don't know the technical names for Vacuum parts!). Although we tried to remove the hairs...

Review of Oreck Upright XL

I'm no sucker!

Advantages: Great attachments, good suction, can hoover the stairs just using the hose.
Disadvantages: Doesn't hold much dust, noisy.

...for some advice and all she said was that the wattage doesn't need to be as high on an upright as a cylinder but still makes a difference and recommended I steer clear of a Dyson as they are not as good in her opinion as they are meant to be. (Just so you know a month ago my Mum bought a Dyson! I know that is exactly what I thought!) I decided on an upright, as it would be better for my back. Yes I suffer like my other halfs Mum, they do say men go for someone like their own mother! I tore a muscle years ago and it still gives me hassle now so the less I aggravate it the better. I decided I wanted above 1800 watts and that it should have a reasonably long hose so I don't have to carry the vacuum itself while I vacuum the stairs. Rather a long list of must haves really. The hoover is purple and silver or titanium as it is called in...

Advantages: Quality and cost.
Disadvantages: Doesn't quite have the status of the similar size Steinway piano.

...I have been able to compare the largest Yamaha Upright with the equivalent pianos from Steinway and the mass produced Boston (marketed by Steinway) These pianos look identical in size and shape. If you are a serious musician, and you keep in practice, you will probably prefer the Steinway. This has a firm touch, giving an experienced player a wider dynamic range and range of expression. The Boston is identical, but about half the price of the Steinway, and has a lighter touch. The largest Yamaha upright is also identical, and has a lighter touch than the Boston. It is between a quarter and a third of the price of the Steinway. Used Steinways and Bostons are rather difficult to locate, and if they have been reconditioned it is important to establish who has done the work, as a used piano is only as good as the technician...

Review of Yamaha Upright Pianos

Damn good Hoover . . .

Advantages: Light, efficient etc
Disadvantages: None

...that is what Hoover are charging, and they do that because we, the customers, are willing to pay it. Your best buy would appear to be online, just remember the cost of postage. Portability is good, it is easy to carry, light, and not too long or bulky. This type of machine is good for cleaning carpets, upholstery and other surfaces, useful to have upstairs as a second cleaner. It does have a selection of tools, including the obligatory "crevice tool". The cleaner holds the old fashioned bag, which seems to work well. The mains lead seems long enough for most homes. I still think of this item as coming off the set of a new Star Wars movie, does it really need to be that aerodynamic? It does have to be said that it makes a noise, not a great deal decibel-wise, but the sound is not a pleasant onem perhaps it is time...

Review of Hoover ST 327

Expect a BANG! With this Hoover!

Advantages: Sucks okay when empty
Disadvantages: Rubbish, Noisey, Cheap platic, Wheels Pop off, Burns, Blows up. Smells Loads more!!!

...see the back of it, and that was only a week of use. I carried on vacuuming with this piece of plastic rubbish until it was a week old. I turned it on with a brand new bag in and BANG! Sparks came out and that was the end of it. Goodbye Hoover, I was so glad to see it blow, only a week old and I was sick of it! So much for Hoover... Used to make the best vacuums? Not any more! I found out that they have been taken over since and just check their other vacuum reviews! They are all terrible. The cleaner never stayed upright when using the hose, it constantly smelled of hot plastic and it cut out all of the time even with a new bag in. My house is hardly dirty! My robot vacuum copes so this should have! I am so annoyed with this cleaner, I think I would have been better off buying an unknown brand, Hoover has really gone downhill...
