...The N64 limitations meant Midway were never going to come close to producing a perfect port of the arcade checkpoint racer, Cruis'n USA, but to rub asphalt into the wounds, the title would be censored by Nintendo (at the least animals were removed), whilst bloody fighting games Mortal Kombat Trilogy and Killer Instinct Gold avoided being butchered...
Speaking of which, the frame rate gets rather choppy when driving through detailed surroundings, such as downtown San Francisco - this is also the section where the external views can be blocked, albeit partially and briefly, by cars behind. There are direction signs in Cruis'n USA but nothing to tell how tight an upcoming turn is - there is a radar for CPU presence, but no map present so you never know until too late, and traffic is sure to come blind as well.
The analog stick works well...

...TomTom Map of the USA and Canada Maps
TomTom Maps are a 2gb SD card with route maps stored on them that are made to work with the TomTom satellite navigation system. They originally come with UK/Europe maps so these are a brilliant upgrade if you are considering taking your car abroad or hiring a car and driving over there. These are a lot easier than using a standard map when you are visiting another country and make getting around easy.
We have just bought one of these as we are planning a trip to the USA and decided one of these would be useful. I have never been abroad so certainly wont know my way around.
It was very easy to install onto the TomTom. We also decided the points of interest feature would be really useful as we use the UK based one on our current maps a lot.

...I suppose Bruce Springsteen is the Marmite of the music world - you either love him or you hate him - or, like many youngsters who encountered him at Glastonbury this year, you have never heard of him (shame on you).
For me, any music that evokes memories of my mid-80s school discos, is automatically beyond any criticism, and the title track from this album is no exception. Of course, one track doesn't make an album, but it can very often be the sole reason for purchasing it.
I have often thought that Springsteen's lyrics were a little suspect, but very often these take second place to the power and emotion of the music and the mood he creates - and this album is Bruce at his raw, belting best.

...Following on from their first installment of motown hits in 2005 entitled Throwback. Boyz II Men have released Motown Hitsville USA, A collection of some more of their favourite classics from the legendary motown era. This album was produced with the help of Randy Jackson. The production is of the usual impecable standard people have come to expect from Boyz II Men. Here is my review of the album.
1. First up we have Just My Imagination (Running away with me)
A gentle guitar and drum beat opens this song and then the smooth vocals come in, Nathan starts off the singing with his sweet falsetto and the version is well worth making. Their vocal delivery is perfect for songs of this kind.

...It may suprise some people, but America have actually got a pretty good record in World Cup. The USA were involved in some of the very first World Cups in the 1930s, some twenty years before England or any other home nation did so themselves. They cannot kid themselves that they invented the game though, and the truth now is they are really not very good.
A spectacularly bad performance in France ’98 where they lost all their games and worse still losing to Iran is hopefully for them not on the cards again. I would not bet against it though. Some bright person decided that it would be a good idea to host the 1994 World Cup, a festival for the very best teams in the world in America. It would be a kick start to give the game a new popularity. Sadly it never happened, they would rather play some stupid rounders that they copied...

...The ‘in’ thing at the moment seems to be celebrities starring in reality TV shows. We’ve had Celebrity Driving School, Big Brother, Fame Academy and I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here! Recently, ITV viewers saw the final of another celebrity reality TV series – Reborn in the USA.
The idea was to take ten former music stars and try to relaunch their careers by taking them on a tour of American cities. They would perform songs live on stage, fitting in with various themes each week (similar to Pop Idol). The theatre audience would vote for their favourites, the bottom two being put to a phone vote at home in Britain to decide who would be kicked off next. The final was held in Britain, where we saw Tony Hadley beat Michelle Gayle.

...Im going on a around the world trip next year and my first stop is America. I have never travelled out of europe before and never been to such a huge country so thought i had better get clued up with lots of information about the place.
I bought this book from Amazon for around £8 which is half its original price. The amazon website was really good as you could preview the contents page of this book to know whats included.
The very first page has useful information such as exchange rates, temperature, conversions and emergency telephone numbers for the USA.
Another really good thing about this book is that it inlcudes a colour map of the USA as a whole labelling the major cities and then throughout the book it has 140 maps of individual places which are much more detailed, highlighting where the sights and activities are...

...Let's face it, the USA is a country built for cars. Long open roads, miles of tarmac, cheap petrol prices...... But for those that do not have the luxury of their own car, or are simply travelling the country, Amtrak offer possibly the best alternative solution.
There are drawbacks: the trains only usually run once a day, often at inconvenient times; the stations are often a taxi ride from downtown areas; and the trains rarely run on time.
Nevertheless, when covering such vast distances, it is understandable that a train may not be exactly to the minute. And for a country opened up by the building of the railroads, trains are a relaxing, almost romantic, way to see the US. And the trains are double deckers too, so you get a great vantage point from 20-feet up!

...Having purchased this book at the oxfam bookshop 10 years after its publishing date it seems strange to be writing a review about it. When I bought the book I anticipated a nerve - racking experience around the USA. I was expected near death experiences, exhaustion, lack of sleep, and generally the tales of someone who had been on a two month adventure.
Unfortunatelly, the Adventures of Josie Dew appeared more tame than expected. I feel it must be one of those books where you are always thinking "if she had done this...". The book itself is written well, with clear descriptions, and vivid explanations, although it can waffle on for a bit. Many of her experiences make me want to do it, however like all opinionated people I guess i would change it slightly to suit my sort of travelling.
