Easy Data Storage

Advantages: Easy to use
Disadvantages: Easily lost, no security option

...I was recently preparing a presentation at work for a client and their request was that we transferred it to a flash drive (or memory pen as my boss calls them!) Following a quick call to our IT department a Kingston DataTraveler USB flash drive soon arrived on my desk. For those who have never seen one, flash drives are a modern alternative to the ancient technology of floppy disks. You can easily transfers file to and from it and it is reusable unlike storing stuff on CD. The Kingston DataTraveler that I have is white in colour with a green tag on it which gives the name and the memory size. It's approximately 6.5cm in length and less than a centimetre in width so the downside is that it can be easily lost, although it does come with a hole at one end where you would be able to hook it to a key ring or neck tag. It has...

Kingston DataTraveler USB flash drive - 2 GB

Advantages: fast, lifetime-warranty
Disadvantages: nothing

...I gave my 2GB Kingston flash drive a few months ago and I think it's really great. I can use it for Microsoft Windows Vista ReadyBoost to speed up my PC. It's not too expensive and it has got a life-time warranty. It's really fast and every operating system contents a driver to use it. If you want to buy a somewhat cheap flash drive, and need a good quality buy that. Most of new PCs can boot from USB nowadays. Thanks to the USB 2.0 technology I can boot up my favourite live Linux distribution from it and I can save it back when I finished the work. You can use it for system rescue too but if you don't need these special "features" just use it to store and move data. :)...

Freecom DataBar 4GB, Great USB stick

Advantages: Fast, Large amount of storage, small sized product, great alround
Disadvantages: no neck strap supplied, minor detail.

...-----| Reason for buying |----- I bought this as an upgrade from my 1GB stick, as i required more space and a more reliable stick, my old one used to corrupt my files. The price was also very attractive for its size, £17.99 for a 4GB USB stick was exceptional when I bought it around 4 or 5 months ago. -----| What I have used it for |----- I used this throughout my studies at school, it was in constant use, exchagning data to and from it numerous times a day. Each transfer was fast, due to it being USB 2.0, and with no corruptions or file loss. I have also used it to transport mp3 files, movies, and game files (very large files basically, upwards of 2GB) and it did this perfectly. -----| Pros |----- Very large even by todays standards, large enough to transport any media type, and lots of it. Small but doesnt feel...

Kingston USB 2GB Flash Drive

Advantages: Speed of small transfers
Disadvantages: No ReadyBoost, feels cheap

...Hi today I will be reviewing a Kingston DataTravler 2GB USB Flash Drive. I bought this a few months ago after losing my other flash drive. It cost me 9.97 from PC World but I believe you can get them cheaper in other places. Speed For the data that I transfer to it i.e. pictures and some small visual basic programs it transfers them extremely quick compared to some cheap flash drives I have used in the past. Problems So far I have had no major problems other than in windows vista it is not capable of running ReadyBoost which a free flash drive I had a while ago could. Size The overall size of the flash drive is quiet good the USB connector slides in and out with a rather flimsy press and slide switch. Feel The Kingston feels rather cheap and plastic considering the price I paid for it anyway. Over all this is not a bad...

SQUEEZES ALL YOUR DATA ONTO A TINY CHIP.

Advantages: USB2.0 compatible. Small and covenient. Very cheap.
Disadvantages: Easy to lose. Key fob very flimsy.

...?) Fast forward a few years and you can now fit a gigabyte of data (that is 1024 Megabytes, or just over a billion bits) - or 2GB if you want to splash out a bit on an updated model - into a single chip. It can be yours for the laughable sum of £2.50. In 1990, a typical gigabyte of storage cost about £10,000. (USA Today) -- How easy is it to use all this technology? -- Plugged into the USB (Universal Serial Bus) socket - one of those square things that you plug your printer / scanner into on your computer - the USB drive appears on your computer as a separate disc drive - on mine it is drive F. It is highly reliable against data loss (these are much more secure than a floppy disc). Data on these should last for around ten years (that's much more secure than a floppy disk or even your hard drive). -- How much information can this drive...

USB 2 USB And Back Again.

Advantages: Easy to use. Its USB.
Disadvantages: Software is dated. Not the fastest method of transfer.

...Well this is one way of networking two computers or two laptops or one of each. All you need is this cable and the disc that comes with it (providing you have spare USB ports on both systems). The device does not need an external power supply. You can connect this cable without the need to restart or turn anything off as it is ?hot plugable? and ?plug-and-play? compatible. Once connected to each device (either end can go in either system ? it doesn?t matter), then depending on the operating system, the device should be recognized and with Windows XP, you need to install the drivers from the CD. There is no paper manual to go with this product, but it?s easy enough to use and they put it on the driver CD in case you need it. The CD tells you how to install the software via Windows XP and older versions. I couldn?t tell you if this...

Review of Trust USB Data Link F12M

Kingston Data Traveller 1 GB

Advantages: Universally accepted MAC or PC, Small Size but Massive Capacity
Disadvantages: Only Comes In White!!

...I have searched for a decent USB pen drive, which not only works well with both my Mac and Windows computers, and after a few disappointing Ebay buys I found the Kingston Data Traveller. At prices from £10 for a massive 1GB drive this has to be the bargain pen drive for every student or office worker out there. To start with it is simple plug and play with both Mac and Windows makes this drive so easy to use. Just plug it into your USB drive (both USB 1.0 and 2.0) and the drive instantly starts working, no drivers or downloads needed. It comes in many capacitys but i choose the 1GB version. Although actual size is just under a GB (as with all flash drives) it is still a huge amount of data. If all you need to transfer is documents then this will never ever fill up! The best aspect of this pen drive however is it easily works with both...

Review of Kingston DataTraveler I - USB flash drive - 1 GB

The 8GB Kingston Data Buddy!

Advantages: Large space, nice appearance, affordability, fast performance, pretty design...
Disadvantages: No extra goodies or bundled software!

...speed - 14MB/s Random read speed - 18MB/s Sequential read speed - 18MB/s If you don't know what these values mean, just take it that this is a pretty fast drive. I could manage to write 5GB of data in 12mins (avg. rate - 6.6MB/s). So, I guess that should explain. Extra goodies - 2/10 Except for the fact that this comes with USB 2.0 and Vista compatability, there is absolutely NOTHING WHATSOEVER that Kingston blesses you with. Let alone a bundled software, you don't even get a lanyard/neckstrap with this thing! That's cruel! It would have been great if it was at least U3 smart. But, nonetheless, worry not flash drive owner! There are tonnes of portable softtwares that you can install and access from your USB drive. Common USB applications include:- Data Back up softwares (with one...

Review of Kingston DataTraveler I - USB flash drive - 2 GB

2GB Data Traveller

Advantages: Looks great and very cheap
Disadvantages: Slow transfer rate and 'sticking' cap

...This USB memory stick is definately a good purchase. I bought mine from amzon in autumn 2006 for £19 from amazon. This was a bargain, but now they have dropped below £10, so are definately a bargain for anybody. The stick is small in size and has an attractive green design, with a matching green LED status light. The 2GB (actually 1.86GB) memory provides ample storage space. There is also an attractive metal faceplate on the reverse side. The package includes a small string to attach to a key chain, although no lanyard or keychain. In terms of hardware performance the USB stick is very reliable and consistent. However, it has a consistently low transfer speed that mirrors the low price. To copy a single 700MB movie took four minutes, when compared to 90 seconds with my old Kngston memory stick. I also found that the cap can...
