Easy to install USB 2.0 PCI card
Review of Archos PCI USB 2.0 PC Expansion Card by
volcano
Advantages: Easy to install
Disadvantages: None
...I have bought this PCI card a week ago.
Reason: I have got a MSI K7T266Pro2 motherboard that only offer USB1.1 ports (1.5Mbytes/s maximum transfer rate).
Since I have got devices that uses USB2.0 and without breaking my piggy bank to upgrade my computer, the most economical way is to install a PCI card that offers USB2.0 connections (up to 480Mbits/s or 60Mbytes/s, 40X faster than USB1.1) for 1 internal port and 4 external ports.
Before you buy a USB2.0 PCI card, make sure that your motherboard got version 2.2 PCI slots which are USB2.0 compatible.
If your motherboard hasn't got version 2.2 PCI slots or higher, don't bother. You need a motherboard upgrade.
Also, your operating system needs to be windows 2000 service pack 4 or windows XP which provides appropriate drivers to support USB2.0. For the other operation systems...

5 USB 2 PORTS - FRONT & BACK
Review of Trust 5 Port USB 2.0 PC Upgrade Kit & Hub - hub - 5 ports by
penguin1052
Advantages: USB FRONT AND BACK
Disadvantages: Fitting For Novices
...Now this is similar to the other Trust Front USB panel review I have done. However with this product we find an additional USB PCI card. Ok so what does that mean to me I ask you hear. Well basically with the other front panel you had to have existing USB ports on the back of your machine and use those for the panel with a link through lead. With this one you install a new USB card into a spare PCI slot (the long white slot inside your motherboard) and then run an internal cable to the front panel. This then means you have an additional two ports on the back for products such as an ADSL modem and printer that would be permanently connected, while you also gain three ports on the front for various other products that you may want to remove from time to time or just plug in now and then such as a digital camera or a joystick. All...

Trust External 4 Port USB Hub
Review of Trust 4 Port USB Hub - HU 4140p by
tokenboy
Advantages: Price.
Disadvantages: You have to destroy the box to get the unit out.
...the instructions as it really is foolproof to install.
I put off buying a four port internal hub a few months ago because I was put off by the cost. For the last few weeks I have been swapping cables, but this got a little tedious. A visit to my local Tesco rewarded me with this little hassle saver for under £9. If you have a small number of USB sockets on your P.C. then I would recommend this item....

External USB HUB
Review of Belkin - USB HUB by
jonwhite
Advantages: external plug in device, easy to set up, runs smoothly
Disadvantages: None
...as if they were plugged into an internal USB Card. Some devices need sufficient power to operate properly through USB. You can however not use the power supply and just run the box as an unpowered hub.
LED's show you that the ports are running correctly.
All in all it is a simple solution at an affordable price...

MSI K7n420Pro nForce Motherboard
Review of MSI MS-6373 - motherboard - ATX - nForce 420-D by
Dave_UK
Advantages: Value for money, competent integrated hardware (especially the sound)
Disadvantages: Geforce2 MX a little dated for todays games
...the ports etc. soldered directly onto it, and a shiny silver heatsink in the middle (this for cooling the the nForce 'NorthBridge', which contains the graphics core etc). You also get an additional four bracketed USB ports (one of which has MSI's diagnostic tool on it - more about that later), and an SPDIF out port for connection to external surround sound amplifiers. I was dissapointed to find out however, that I did not get the riser card for surround sound. This little card slots into the board and contains the connections for 5.1 PC speakers and according to the MSI site is included - it wasnt. Numerous attempts at getting dabs to sort it out proved fruitless, so those of you who own 5.1 speakers may wish to check this is included before installing the board. Still, it didn't matter to me too much as I use a 2 speaker HiFi configuration...

MSI PM9M-V P4M900
Review of MSI PM9M-V - motherboard - micro ATX - P4M900 by
wh666-666
Advantages: Stability and price
Disadvantages: Possibly limited PCI slot and memory DIMM's
...this with some memory I have kicking around it obviously didn't work. Upon browsing for this issue, I see others have tried it and even MSI has verified you cant run DDR2 and DDR consecutively on this board.
This would be a hindrance if we were talking about a full ATX board, however one active DIMM isn't really a big issue. In fact, the flexibility between DDR and DDR2 memory is quite welcoming.
MOTHERBOARD/GENERAL
Rear I/O panel:
1 x Serial port, 1 x PS/2 Keyboard and 1 x PS/2 Mouse, 1 x Audio (3 in 1), 2 x USB 2.0, 1 x RJ45 LAN jack, 1 x VGA
As well as flexibility with the memory and cpu the motherboard also offers two onboard USB blocks, which will support a further four USB ports, on the front panel for example. Quite nice, as some other micro ATX boards I have seen only offer one block, which can be a problem if you have more...

MSI do it again
Review of MSI K7N2 Delta-L - motherboard - ATX - nForce2 Ultra 400 by
poozle
Advantages: Dual Channel Memory, In built Sound and LAN
Disadvantages: First 2 boards I had faulty.
...I have used MSI motherboards and graphics cards in the past and this board slightly disapointed me, the first two of these I had were faulty (one wouldn't work and one went VERY slow if anything was connected on the same IDE cable as the primary master hard drive). Anyway, when I finally got a properly working motherboard I was amazed as to how much better it was than my old motherboard (which I hapened to melt after the heatsink was not properly held onto the processor), the dual channel memory really speeds up video compression and image editing and the USB 2.0 interface makes a flash drive much more useful. This motherboard is a cut down version of a high end motherboard and so does not feature all the latest techology, such as raid or firewire.
