Easy Access USB 2.0 Front Panel
Review of Trust 4 Port USB 2.0 Direct Access Hub - hub - 4 ports by
penguin1052
Advantages: EASY ACCESS TO USB PORTS
Disadvantages: INITIAL SETUP FOR NON-PC PEOPLE
...STABILITY
Perfect, never had it drop out while in use and always performs perfectly. Only problem I could foresee is if you were using Windows 95 or Windows 98 First Edition. But this is only due to the fact that they didn’t support USB and will only work via a patch, but I’m told the patches themselves are unstable.
SPEED
Running at USB 2.0 speed this is pretty much the fastest you will get at the moment.
USB 1.0 – 12mb a second
FIREWIRE – 412mb a second
USB 2.0 – just over 450mb a second
Now just because it is USB 2.0 doesn’t mean you can’t use your older USB 1.0 devices on it because it is fully backwards compatible with the older equipment. However should you have a device capable of the faster protocol then you will see that high data transfer speed come in to action.
EASE OF INSTALLATION
Not the easiest thing...

the cable that will last a lifetime
Review of Belkin Pro Series Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Device Cable USB cable by
techno_man_37
Advantages: strong
Disadvantages: none
...Now iv not done a review on USB cables before, really its just never hit me that I could actually write about these and there’s also the fact that there’s not really much you can say about a cable, but ill give it a go.
This is a normal printer cable which means it has two ends, one being the end which goes into any USB port in your computer or laptop, this end is the rectangle shaped end and is called a type A.
The other end is which goes into your printer, and don’t worry as nearly every printer made has this kind of end so it will definitely fit, and this end is kind of square in shape and is known as the type B end.
It transfers data to your computer at speeds of up to 480 mbps, that’s megabytes a second which is really fast and is about 40 times faster than USB 1.1 cables.
The cable its self is 1.8 m...

5 USB 2 PORTS - FRONT & BACK
Review of Trust 5 Port USB 2.0 PC Upgrade Kit & Hub - hub - 5 ports by
penguin1052
Advantages: USB FRONT AND BACK
Disadvantages: Fitting For Novices
...Now this is similar to the other Trust Front USB panel review I have done. However with this product we find an additional USB PCI card. Ok so what does that mean to me I ask you hear. Well basically with the other front panel you had to have existing USB ports on the back of your machine and use those for the panel with a link through lead. With this one you install a new USB card into a spare PCI slot (the long white slot inside your motherboard) and then run an internal cable to the front panel. This then means you have an additional two ports on the back for products such as an ADSL modem and printer that would be permanently connected, while you also gain three ports on the front for various other products that you may want to remove from time to time or just plug in now and then such as a digital camera or a joystick. 88 Floppy Disks in one!
Review of PQI 128MB USB 2.0 Cool Drive Traveling Disk by
Deru
Advantages: Fast USB 2.0 connection, accessories, Compact, Looks COOL
Disadvantages: Requires a driver for Win98, Need updated USB 2.0 driver to use advanced features or your computer crashes, not all computers have USB
...used to be a lot bigger but have been evolving and have shrunk, despite being able to hold more stuff. I like the size of this. Oh, and don't worry if you don't have USB 2.0. USB 2.0 is backwards compatible and you can use it with the older USB 1.1 ports.
THE BOX
When you receive the PQI cool drive, you get a rather plain looking box. It's a 'generic' box, as I like to call them, where there's a list of the possible capacities the drive is available with and a sticker is stuck next to a drive capacity corresponding to the drive in the box.
Inside the box, you'll find an A4 sheet of paper (the user guide), an oddly shaped driver CD, a USB 2.0 extension cable, a short blue strap, which you can attach to the drive if you want, and the disk drive. On the manual, English is on one side, Chinese is on the other. Despite being Chinese...

Easy to install USB 2.0 PCI card
Review of Archos PCI USB 2.0 PC Expansion Card by
volcano
Advantages: Easy to install
Disadvantages: None
...I have bought this PCI card a week ago.
Reason: I have got a MSI K7T266Pro2 motherboard that only offer USB1.1 ports (1.5Mbytes/s maximum transfer rate).
Since I have got devices that uses USB2.0 and without breaking my piggy bank to upgrade my computer, the most economical way is to install a PCI card that offers USB2.0 connections (up to 480Mbits/s or 60Mbytes/s, 40X faster than USB1.1) for 1 internal port and 4 external ports.
Before you buy a USB2.0 PCI card, make sure that your motherboard got version 2.2 PCI slots which are USB2.0 compatible.
If your motherboard hasn't got version 2.2 PCI slots or higher, don't bother. You need a motherboard upgrade.
Also, your operating system needs to be windows 2000 service pack 4 or windows XP which provides appropriate drivers to support USB2.0. For the other operation systems...

Freecome DVD RW Recorder USB 2.0
Review of Freecom DVD RW Recorder LS USB 2.0 by
RMcCartyhy
Advantages: ummmmm
Disadvantages: Doesn't work very well, slow, intermitently recognises disks, poor back up service, need I go on?
...I ordered my Freecom DVD Recorder LS USB 2.0 after my CD/DVD drive packed up on my 15 month old HP Desktop. I wanted it mainly to load CD ROM and burn DVD's from movies already converted to DVD format on my hard drive. Being that my PC had no disk drive I relied upon this external drive to load the bundled DVD burning software (Roxio 9). This took several days and many attempts. Then I tried burning my first DVD. After taking 3 hours to do a task that previously took about 30 minutes, this recorder produced a disc that no dvd player in my home recognised (and I have 4). I found the user interface very unfriendly and it simply didn't work. Needles to say, I'll be getting a refund!...

Wester Digital External Hard Drive 80GB USB 2.0
Review of Western Digital Essential External Hard Drive USB 2.0 80 GB by
blackhawk204
Advantages: Portable, easy to use, never failed on me yet!
Disadvantages: Perhaps only the disc size, but it has taken me 2 years to fill it!
...Wester Digital, a respected brand name, and i agree!
I have owned the unit now for around 2 years, and have 0 problems. My internal hard drive has died on me twice but my external one, never!
This 80gb HDD is perfect for storing large files, home movies, photo albums, music etc. It's ideal when transfering data from one place to another, simply unplug it, plug it in elsehwre and hey presto!
It supports drag & drop so moving files couldn't be easier.
Standard power adpater with 3-pin plug, and USB 2.0 connection to your pc, mac, server etc.
It is easily recognised by each operating system and i have yet to find one that doesn't support the unit. Plug it in, wait around 30secs and it's up and running.
Can be stored horizontally, and if you have 3 like me, you can stack them perfectly, or store them vertically...

Viking USB 2.0 Flash Drive 1GB
Review of Viking USB 2.0 Drive USB flash drive - 1 GB by
bindie
Advantages: Small, High Capacity, Quick Transfer Rate
Disadvantages: None As Yet
...I bought this pen drive when I came across a website that I found on google by accident. They were selling it in their sale for £14.99. So I though that I would give it a try.
It cam in the post, and I opened the bag that it came in, and I was shocked by the size of the pen. It was the smallest pen that I had ever seen. I was worried at first because it is so small that it would be easy to lose it, and I thought that I would very quickly. Although there is a hole at the end where you can put a clip through so you can attach it to something, i.e. around you neck, on a key ring, etc.
It has a lid to keep the USB connection clean and so that it can not be broken. Once it has been taken off, you can plug it straight into the USB port on you computer. It works at its best via the USB 2.0 port. This allows high speeds of data transfer...

It works and is cheap ... but so are many others
Review of PQI USB 2.0 Travel Flash 6-in-1 Reader by
Ramin
Advantages: Simple and functional
Disadvantages: No indications of which drive is which, no XD-card support
...computer:
Four removable drives appear, with no indication of which is which. This can be confusing, as the windows explorer window does not always make it clear which one(s) has a memory card inside. On the other hand, it is possible to have, for example, CF and SD cards inserted at the same time.
What it looks like:
It has a raised curve design as pictured on this site, or is also sold black with non-curved design. The slower USB 1.1 version has a PQI label on the top right and lacks the curved groove design.
It has an embedded USB cable that tucks away, useful for travel as well as plugging into hard to crowded USB sockets with little room either side. An extension lead is also supplied.
There are two LEDs, indicating connection (power) and if data-transfer is in progress.
The device is about the same size as an audio cassette...

More brains than your little finger
Review of PQI Traveling Disk USB 2.0 - USB flash drive - 256 MB by
stevecook
Advantages: Small size, transferrable data
Disadvantages: Too Small?
.... The case is made from semi transparent black plastic, which is supposed to protect the innards from drops up to 1 metre. There are tails of the Travelling disk surviving incidents with washing machines (although this has not been tested by me), so it is pretty tough.
The Travelling Disk comes supplied with a metre long USB Male - Female extension cable so that you don't have to grovel behind the PC every time you want to plug it in. It is compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1
It also comes supplied with a mini cd with the Windows 98SE drivers. I had a few problems with this as either I didn't have the correct character set on my home PC, or the designer was having a bad day. The buttons on the set-up protocol where gibberish, and it was by good luck more than planning that got the driver installed.
However, once installed...
