United Utilities Staff
Advantages: not applicable
Disadvantages: not applicable
...I also work for united utilities and as much asi can understand the last point of view that has been posted by a staff member, i also appriciate the points of view that YOU a customer have. I hope u find my advice useful?
Yes United Utilities Staff do read your comments. I work for UU and will provide you with some usefull information, but please bare in mind, most errors on accounts, are infact the result of information provided by customers........
United Utilities Charge Unmeasured Customers on the rateable Value of The Property................
What is a rateable value?
Rateable values have always been used by water and sewerage companies to calculate unmetered charges. They were used until 1990 as the basis of the general rate bill payable to the local council. The values were assessed and changed by the Valuation...

Utilities Galore
Advantages: Lots Of Free Programs. Hardly Any Advertising
Disadvantages: Shareware mixed up with freeware.
...This little gem of a magazine is not as well known as I first thought. This was evident from the fact there was no category for my opinion to go. It has now been included by Ciao, so now I can get on with writing an opinion for it!
The magazine is published monthly at £4.99. There is always 1 disc jam-packed full of many useful programs for you to install. Every 2 or 3 issues, an additional disc is supplied as a treat. For example, the May 2003 issue came with an extra disc containing a version of Linux that requires no installation. These extra discs always offer something different and this is one of the reasons I buy PC Utilities.
The main disc that comes with the magazine each month contains the following:

The Utility Warehouse Services
Advantages: One bill
Disadvantages: Shoddy customer service
...I was with Utility Warehouse for a total of two years (phone, mobile (SIM only) and broadband services) until I bought an Apple Imac. Try as I might, I couldn't get UW's broadband service to work with the Apple. After several phone calls to their tech support at 75p a minute, where I received rather unhelpful service and no sign of the promised return support calls, I decided to change suppliers in September 2007.
Having had the broadband service with UW for well over a year, I am extremely annoyed that they are trying to charge me an 'early cancellation' fee of £50, plus they're still charging me for the SIM card for my mobile phone, presumably because I've never returned it (what other mobile provider insists that you return your SIM card if you cancel your contract??) because I haven't the foggiest where it is.
My first letter...

Utilities, utilise and user friendly.
Advantages: Works with most Windows versions and is easy to use
Disadvantages: Can get a bit over the top
...INTRODUCTION
Right, another write up for the software section. I really am a ?mad computer genius? in my spare time. Anyway on with show. For those of you who will remember my recent dive into the world of Norton Anti Virus, here comes the second chapter ? all about Norton Utilities 2002.
Fair enough, I was lucky enough to drop on both packages being sold together for a snip (or so I think) and yes, I will be writing about a ?freebie? firewall that runs with both these programs.
WHAT, WHERE AND WHEN?
I bought Norton Utilities at the very same time I bought Norton Anti Virus, for just under £50, from John Lewis (formerly George Henry Lee) in Liverpool - how?s that for lucky! It was about 9 months ago and I haven?t seen the same package since!
THE REALLY BORING TECHNICAL STUFF.
Norton Utilities has system...

Utility or ornament.
Advantages: An aid to mobility and a thing of beauty.
Disadvantages: Getting used to using it.
...used for those engaged in hill walking and other such sports, rather like the ski poles. These are or can be quite a specialist article.
Walking sticks can be made out of various woods or of more modern, utility materials as aluminium. They may be of a fixed size or capable of adjustment as some of the modern metal ones are.
I have several sticks. Most are of wood and are of differing thicknesses. I do have one that was a presentation to an Uncle upon his retirement.
Primarily I wish to talk about a stick as a mobility aid.
My personal favourite is a heavy Scottish ash stick about 3/4 inches thick that has a knob rather than a curved handle. I bought it on holiday in a small shop in Devon!
I started to use a stick when I developed balance problems because of the medication I was taking. When walking I could suddenly lurch to...

Possibly the last repair utility you EVER need!
Advantages: A plethora of tools to help you maintain and manage your PC for optimum experience.
Disadvantages: Antivirus package outdated, not 100% perfect but about as close as you can get.
...I love computers. I hate fixing them. However, I do get paid to do just that, and most of the time the reason a computer needs "fixed" is because its owner has neglected routine software maintainance -- downloading critical OS updates, allowing it to be infected adware/spyware, etc. Worst among these offenses would be failure to regularly defragment the hard drive, empty trash, temp directories and old caches, and clearing out of old registry items.
Thankfully, I have one software suite that helps me take care of all of this -- Fix-It Utilities 4.0. I have used this suite since I discovered version 2.0 in 1999, and I'm not ashamed to admit that it was a "pirated" version ... but considering that they print the serial number right on the disc and make no restrictions on making copies or installation (and still do not!) I'm not...

A shed light that costs nothing to run
Advantages: Costs nothing to run
Disadvantages: You need to find a suitable place to site the solar panel
...I recently bought and erected a little log cabin for my garden which I am really pleased with but I thought it would be nice to have some lighting in there for those times when I want to go in there after dark and don't want to scrabble around with a torch. I wasn't keen to take electricity out there and in these days of greener options I thought it would be nice to look for something energy efficient.
What could be better I thought than something solar powered? The shed has a pitched roof with one side of it facing South so I started to search the internet for something suitable. It didn't take me long to find just what I was looking for on Amazon - a handy solar 'utility' light at a cost of £17.99.
Design features
The solar light arrived within a couple days and it was simple to fit high on the wall of my little log...

My 6 year ordeal continues..........
Advantages: Constant, clean water supply
Disadvantages: Terrible customer service & lack of action to rectify problems
...United Utilities were formed when Norweb & North West Water merged just over 10 years ago. They are responsible for the supply of water & electricity in the North West to approximately 7 million people. Every day 2000 million litres of water flow through their pipes - now that's a lot of water!! In addition to the supply of water, they are also involved with waste water treatment, servicing a number of sewer networks throughout the North West.
I suppose you could argue that as United Utilities supply so many people with water, that bad experiences are to be expected, but my story has been going on for 6 years!! I will try to be objective throughout my review - please make allowances if I slip into "I hate United Utilities mode" !!
Are you sitting comfortably? Then let me begin??..
As I said, my story started about 6 years ago...

Cleans without scratching....
Advantages: An easy to use program with a lot to offer
Disadvantages: none at all
...Ciao have finally succumbed to my request for Tuneup Utilities 2008 instead of having to place this review in its earlier edition (2006), so after asking them to move my review to here and finding little help I have decided to move it my self?
Anyway, the review in question is, as I said, about Tune-up Utilities 2008...
I have been using this diamond of a program for a while now and have decided I am ?clued up? enough to finally write a review on it, (alright, maybe ?clued up? isn?t the right word?).
I would have done it sooner but I like to make sure I know at least a bit about what I waffle about, there?s no point in doing a review about a car you?ve test drove once is there..? It would be like reviewing a show starring David Soul without actually watching it? (take note Matthew Wright)?
I was using TU 2007 for a while...

Utility Not Sporty......
Advantages: Budget Korean version of a practical utility vehicle
Disadvantages: Pain to park, not particularly good fuel consumption
...I have no intention to drive off a proper metalled road (at least not deliberately), nor do I indulge in the daily school run with hordes of kids, bags, PE kit and the like. However when we changed the car last May we did decide to buy a 4x4 Hyundai Tucson (pronounced Toooson) 2.0 CRTD CDX.
Curiously the manufacturer describes this as a Sports Utility Vehicle or SUV. Now my image of a sports vehicle is low slung, cramped, goes like mad, makes heads turn; so certainly not like this chunky beast.
Best described as large 5 door hatchback, it is a budget offering from Korea. Indeed the Kia Sportage shares the same Corporate ownership, running gear, many panels and fundamental designs as this one. However the Sportage retails approx £1000 cheaper than this model so the devil is in the detail of the specifications. Also Kia don...
