Really BIG lava lamp.
Review of Giant Grande Lava Lamp by
drewish
Advantages: Huge. Soothing. Good value.
Disadvantages: Takes forever to heat up.
...A lava lamp is, in principle, very simple. It consists of a lamp, which heats up a glass bulb filled with a waxy solid and a liquid. These cannot mix together and must have very similar densities. As the solid heats up, its density is lowered, so it rises. This cools it down and it then falls to the bottom of the lamp, creating a strangely soothing effect. In practice, making one yourself would involve messing about with expensive and perhaps flammable chemicals, so I wouldn't bother trying. It is much easier just to buy one yourself.
The Giant Grande Lava Lamp comes in two colours yellow and blue or yellow and violet. It is truly enormous at 27" and is guaranteed to be a focal point in your room. It is not called "giant" and "grande" for nothing!
My lamp is a yellow and blue model. Although the product description says "yellow...

UV and the sun!
Review of Everything that starts with U ... by
michael4wood
Advantages: we would die without it
Disadvantages: we will with it
...Having thought about righting a review on a sun tan or other sun products I thought …. Why bother, I would rather just right a passage about the route cause on why people should use sun block and not go on sun beds…so I got my chemist brain out and here you go….
Hope this piece does not scare the sun lover's amounts you!!!
I am very fond of going on holiday and getting a sun tan , but having worked with harmful UV lamps I try to use a sun block which blocks out most of the suns rays. Lets not forget that we need the suns rays to synthesise Vitamin D. Vitamin D is vital for effective calcium absorption by the intestine. Calcium is required for strong bones after all!!.
The suns rays can also lead to a heathyer immune system. Ever wondered why so many people are depressed in winter?… this can be due to lack of UV intake leading...

Daysoft UV 58
Review of Daysoft UV 58 by
mekon88
Advantages: Small packaging, small price, very comfortable
Disadvantages: took 7 days to arrive after ordering
...)
Upon visual inspection there is an easy way to tell from the shape of the lens edge whether it is the correct way round, the last lenses i used seemed to be almost the same either way, the only way to tell was to put them in and see if i could see! this was a nice suprise. The lenses seem to be made of a softer more rubber-like material than the other lenses i have tried which may make them more susceptible to damage but will also make them more comfortable for long wear. The inclusion of a UV filter in the lenses is a nice touch as UV is a concern in this day and age....

Bye bye Manicurist - I do my nails myself now !!
Review of Rio UV Gel Nails Kit by
ptitpupuk
Advantages: Beautiful nails at home - no need to pay expensive nail treatment
Disadvantages: Sometimes messy - takes time - needs practice to get proper hang of it
...to stick with the nail. Make sure you don't apply on the cuticles. Let it dry a few minutes.
- Then, with the brush, apply the gel... My tip there: less is better: it gives better result to do three thin coats (as recommended - but you might want to do an extra one) than two thick ones... The reason is that the gel would get bumpy, and then the nails will look rubbish. When spreading the gel, apply it all over, in long strokes, like you would with nail varnish. If it is not applied uniformly, but looks a bit streaky, it is alright, as long as there is gel all over the nail. It will go when under the UV lamp.
- Once you have finished applying the gel, put the hand under the lamp for three minutes. Make sure the thumb and little fingers get their share of the light, because the thumb is not in the same line as the other finger and sometimes...

UV filter conditioner
Review of L'Oreal Elvive UV Filter Revitalising Conditioner by
wilsam00
Advantages: shines, protects, gibes the just washed feeling all day.
Disadvantages: slighly exspensive
...light blue containers.I think they only sell this conditioner in one size but its a fairly bigish bottle so it should last you a good while (about 4-5 weeks)
This shampoo is fairly good to my skin making my skin.I have not experianced any irritaion to my scalp.Im not quite sure but i belive they do a shampoo/conditioner for sensative skin.
The UV filter which is mentioned on the front strenghtens and protects you hair agains split ends and protects from the cold weather.
This product is one of the best products around so i dont mind paying the slightley exspensive price tag. This conditioner can also be used for frequent use (every day)...

Another one of my boot sale bargains
Review of Lava Lamp Model TM 20-85 by
sue26
Advantages: Great to watch, very relaxing
Disadvantages: The base get very hot
...I`ve always wanted a lava lamp but new they are not that cheap to buy. Most lamps these days start at around £30, although they are now starting to come down in price, and spending that kind of money on one product just frightens me, so I`d resigned myself to never owning one.
Then one day as sue26 and clan were browsing around our favourite shopping place, you know, that great big store known to all thrifty people called the local car boot sale, I did a quick u-turn as out of the corner of my eye I spotted a lava lamp.
Now here`s the best bit of this tale, all I paid for this little gem was, wait for it, drum roll please, £5, yes you read that correctly, just £5 for something I thought I`d never own.
Now for those of you that don`t know what one of these little beauties is then I`ll tell you. A lava lamp is a glass jar filled...

IS YOUR POND GREEN THEN USE A UV STERILISER
Review of Yamitsu 30 watt by
breezer
Advantages: sturdy, reliable, easy to get new bulbs.
Disadvantages: none.
...I had a lovely pond of 3500 gallons, but the water in it was the colour of pea soup (mucky green), not very nice and not compatible with viewing my collection of fish.
So I bought a Yamitsu 30watt UV sterilizer in the summer of 1997, which cost me £79, although slightly underpowered, (as it is recommended to have 10watts per 1000 gallons) it was the most I wanted (or could afford) to shell out, as I was doubtful if it would clear the troublesome green water.
Installation was started the next morning, this entailed the cutting of one of the pipes from the pump, and fitting the uv unit in-line on this cut pipe, using the supplied stepped hosetails, I had to supply my own jubilee clips to complete this.
The unit must be sheltered from the worst of the elements, mine is covered by some old pond liner.
It has to be plugged...

A Jellephish of your very own
Review of Jellephish Mood Lamp by
HellSoul
Advantages: Great mood lamp, easy to operate
Disadvantages: Remote can be unresponsive at greater distances
...I have had the Jellephish Mood Lamp on my desk for the past 6 months and the novelty of this mood lamp doesn't wear off after the first couple of weeks.
From the box, the lamp is a little tricky to set up, mostly because you have to fiddle with getting the cable through the center whilst lining up the glass levels, although you don't need to set the lamp up, you can just use it as a night light style lamp and put it on a wall with just the top lamp section, its up to you.
After I had finished setting up the lamp I noticed that it was a little wobbly because the cable was twisting and wasn't flat, so before setting it up I recommend that you straighten and flatten the cable as best you can, else you should be careful with it. The remote control uses 2 AAA batteries (included), it has a rubber feel to it and is comfortable to use...
