...I've read a lot of reviews on ciao about virgin media & most of them are pretty scathing, but, to be honest I've never had a problem with them. I was an ntl customer originally & was automatically switched to virgin during the big sky/virgin debacle of '07. Ok so I lost a few sky channels - which i've not missed one bit, but i've gained loads of on demand programs & series that I really do feel the benefit of. I've recently upgraded to a V+ box (high def & hard disc) as it was on a half price offer-£75 instead of £150 & had the normal box relocated to the bedroom for an extra £5 a month. ...The Story So Far……. = Oh My Goodness, where do I begin ? It all started when we moved house in June. June 9th, we rang Virgin to confirm we were moving on the 15th. Virgin said they had no notification that we were moving, despite the fact we had rung them 2 weeks previously to tell them !! So, they finally found our file, and it actually confirmed that we were moving house. Great stuff !! Can we have a Virgin Plus Box (henceforth known as V+) ?? Yes, but you have to pay £150 for the installation today. Ok, not a problem. Paid for that. Engineer was to be booked for Saturday 16th June, between 8am and 1pm. Great Stuff again, yes, so far. Advantages: Some good on demand services.
Disadvantages: Poor TV picture on Samsung and LG sets. Broadband throttled.

There was no adjustment possible that could make Virgin Media's picture as good as Freeview's picture on my brand new, very expensive, name-brand TV. The only solution - and he wasn't sure it would work - would be to order a V+ set top box. That would cost £150 to install and £5 per month extra but, he said, it might not work any better because of the compression issue. A V+ box would have an HDMI connection (which is modern and associated with digital signals) and it would be able to enable Virgin to send me lots of lovely HD programmes. ...to buy booze before boarding. Heathrow is a nightmare of an airport, any foreigner who uses it must think England is a land of chaos, rudeness and grime. In some places they would be right. Once on the aircraft, an immaculate new Boeing 747-400 named 'cosmic girl' (I thought the registration G-V WOW! was particularly cool) these impressions were put right, the aircraft was spotlessly clean, the Virgin cabin staff immaculately dressed. All somewhat attractive, if not quite as stunning as the legend has it, pretty but too much blonde hair dye and make up clashing with the bright red uniforms, and forced smiles. The seats were pretty standard for a B747-400, I am average height for a guy so there was some leg room, yet because of the new entertainment system about a third of the under seat space is lost due to the control box so you have... The only reason I left in the first place (around about a year ago) was that Virgin didn't do picture messaging and I wanted a nice new phone to play pictures with my mates. However, this has now changed, Virgin have caught up and picture messaging is available at a very competitive price to other PAYT tariffs. Tariff is one of the most important things you look for in a new phone - Virgin have one set rate for all and no contracts, you can either pay as you go or pay monthly (subject to the usual checks) without line rental and just pay for what you use . ...The Virgin music festival (V2004 for this year) has been running for a number of years now and is widely regarded as the third festival, with Glastonbury being the main festival and Reading/Leeds as number two. These two have been running longer than V and are seen among most music fans as being "better" whereas V is deemed to be softer because it is only over two days and the others are over three. The V festival is situated on two different sites - Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Stafford with two different line-ups of bands which swap over sites for each day i.e. bands A play Stafford on Saturday then go to Chelmsford for Sunday and bands B play Chelmsford on Saturday then go to Stafford for Sunday. I also have the v+ box, which allows you to pause and record live television, this package is around 90pounds, depending on whether you call any mobiles or premium lines from your landline, if you do these calls are chargable at an extra cost. There are other packages, such as their 3 for 30pounds offer- where you can get the tv,phone and internet but at their lowest options, so the internet connection would be 2mb, free calls would be at the weekend only and the basic tv package which wouldn't include movies and sports. TELEVISION SERVICE Due to the fall-out between Virgin and Sky, sky one, three and sky news have not been available to Virgin customers. ...to apply for a V Card which will entitle you to the reductions - I'm told that this has to be done online and it seems a little pointless to me when all other retailers are quite happy to have an NUS card flashed at them. This discount does tend to make the prices a bit more palatable which is why I tend to still go in, as well as the fact that I know someone in there who will give me the odd free poster that was overstocked or used to promote a film or artist :). -- Verdict? I haven’t quite decided what I make of the store, even after writing this, so I will sum up thus: Virgin has a pretty comprehensive selection of music and films (with some great deals to be had on videos it has to be said) and what with the Virgin Mega store radio station playing in the background you're generally guaranteed some decent unheard music to listen...
