...For me Vax conjures up an image of a big orange wet and dry cleaner, that I found awkward to use and never really found the end result of wet cleaning of a carpet really satisfactory. Hence I never looked at Vax products, although they brought out better machines, I never looked at them purely because of my own prejudiced view on anything called Vax. You can probably imagine my surprise when my better half walked in brandishing a large box with the dreaded word Vax upon it. The only saving grace came when she told me it was on sale (½ price to be exact), the economical side of me often outweighed my prejudiced side. P is for Pets The Vax V-091 comes in a few different models, the particular model we got has the letter “P” attached to the end of the product number. Advantages: brilliant suction
Disadvantages: cumbersome

...I'm reasonably fit. I run regularly and I lift weights. I don't need to do either now as I have a Vax Performance V-091X. My old vaccuum cleaner was an upright jobby that did the job it was intended for, but quite heavy. I remember my mum saying she always had cylinder cleaners because they were easier to manage and not as heavy. Well I thought about it as I'm not getting any younger and decided a cylinder cleaner would be best for me. As with anything new I couldn't wait to get my new 'toy' out and get started. The Vax looks good. It is blue and silver and reminds me of a cross between a spaceship and a tractor. Doesn't sound too attractive but I think it is considering it is really a workhorse. It has large wheels at the back which do make it easy to pull along, but it is quite hard to pull with the hose as the unit is very heavy... Read review

Advantages: Great suction, gets right ot the edge
Disadvantages: awkward to use and messy to empty

...Casting about on the Internet looking for a replacement for our existing cylinder cleaner, we finally settled on a Vax V-019x (the one with the Xtend feature - more of this later). Our decision was made on the basis of a combination of the features offered by the machine, and the saving on the MRP. It arrived, neatly packaged with its hose, chromed telescopic tube, combination floor head (with switch to change between hard floor and carpet), upholstery brush, crevice tool, and turbo brush (a head with rotating brushes - great for “massaging” the pile in your carpet). It also had a single-page instruction sheet (the same one that’s available from the VAX website) On the top are the on/off switch, a control for the power cord rewind (very effective!), and a dial for varying the suction, though this can get knocked by the hose in use...
