Advantages: Very small phone with lots of features Disadvantages: Some quirks and a couple of bugs to be sorted
...Ok, its silver, and not much bigger than a penny chew, and flips open to reveal a dual-band phone almost identical to its predecessor the v3688. So what have those guys at Motorola been doing for the last couple of years apart from a quick respray in silver?
Quite a bit, it would seem. My first ever mobile, 3 years ago was an "mr201" on Orange (a d140, to the rest of the world, I believe), and most Motorolas I'd seen since then had varied very little, including my v3688 I had 2 years ago, which feature-wise was almost identical to the mr201. Not so with the new V50, which seems to have been completely redesigned on the inside.
Instead of each option taking up the whole screen and you scrolling (or "wading") through them with the arrow keys, the menus are now presented three options per screen and you scroll up and down. This is all...

Review of Motorola V50
Advantages: Fast effortless drive, stylish, surprisingly roomy cargo space Disadvantages: Bit small for 5 people, hard suspension
...I acquired my Volvo V50 Sportswagon 2.0lt diesel in June of 2005 so at the time of writing this have been driving it for 6 months and have travelled about 9000 miles.
It's probably worth noting that prior to this I had been driving a SEAT Alhambra 7 seater so was used to excellent visibility and acres of room inside. A change of job and family down sizing gave the opportunity for a change.
I find the driving position to be generally comfortable and; easily and variously adjustable (I'm 6ft tall so need a reasonable amount of leg room). However, I have an occasionally recurring back problem so still use a lumbar roll as a rule.
The clock is digital and inside the drivers instrument area, which is an irritation for watchless passengers (I'm told!!). Other than that I find the instruments easy to read. The messaging system is...
Advantages: Compact yet spacious enough Disadvantages: Dodgy ignition system
...Driving over 40,000miles a year I need a solid, safe, dependable vehicle that has the capacity to carry a good amount of stuff and on occasion several dogs and do so in a calm, comfortable way. The V50 fits the bill.
Although a bit smaller than my previous V70 it still performs admirably and has a good turn of speed when you need it. Fuel economy is good if driven sensibly (usually around 48mpg although I have acheived 55+) and still pretty good if not... something to consider carefully with prices rising as they are.
My overall rating would have been excellent but for the fact that the somewhat unusual ignition system has failed twice and on both occasions needed replacing, taking the car off the road for a week each time.
Dont let that put you off though, build quality is very good and aside the ignition I cant fault it....
...has really got it really wrong controls wise. Dangerously so in my opinion (I'm an Advanced Driver, and used to drive 40-50000 miles per year - no convictions or accidents to date in over 25years, so I feel reasonably confident in my assessment).
For day to day practical load lugging - this car is not too brilliant either, mostly because Volvo can't be bothered to change the rear seat arrangements for RH drive versions. The lack of door pockets (microscopic in the front, and none at all in the back) is poor too.
For image and external design they have got that right, and it?s a delight to drive handling and performance wise- just don't knock the indicator or use the radio! Oh, and I'm getting 50mpg in urban traffic to and from work everyday.
So in summary, if you're looking for traditional Volvo values, forget it. If you want...
Advantages: Small, so it fits in your pocket. Flip-top, so there's no risk of dialing numbers without knowing. Looks good. WAP enabled. Comes with detailed instructions. Disadvantages: Small selection of ringtones. No text message reciept alert. Not very customizable. Quite confusing when it comes to working it.

Review of Motorola V50
Advantages: Fast. Comfortable seats. Low wind noise. Good colour choice available. Disadvantages: Very small. Very cramped. Very expensive. Many expensive options
...As any of you who have read my previous car reviews (sorry to bore those of you uninterested in cars - every other review is non-car!) will know that I am something of a Volvo enthusiast. Indeed, in a recent S60 T5 review, I described Mrs Richada and I, as frustrated "non S60 D5" owners!
The larger Volvo's, S60, S80 and V70 are without doubt near or at the top of their respective classes, indeed Mrs Richada says that the ONLY estate car she would be seen in is a V70. At the "bottom" of the range are to be found family sized (slightly larger than Focus) saloon and estate models, the new, in 2004 at least, S40 and V50 models.
For those of you who are non Volvo aficionados, maybe a quick explanation of Volvo's seemingly odd, but in fact quite logical (in Sweden at least!) model nomenclature. S, quite naturally stands for saloon...

Review of Volvo V50 T5
Advantages: Customer service Disadvantages: Lack of features compared to other phones
...The V50 by Motorola is a fantastic phone. Although it may not have as many glitzy features as other phones, it serves its purpose well. It is an update of the V3690 and it is availiable in silver or dark blue. Depending on your contract, you can get it for a range of prices, up to no more than £149. It is not availiable on pay as you go - or so I believe.
The V50 has WAP capabilities, and although I don't use this feature, it may prove useful to others. Similarly, I choose not to use the ringtone composer as a wide range of tones are pre-set. However, you can easily make up your own or download them from the internet.
Texting people is very easy and Motorola have improved on their previous model by allowing the user to see who has sent the text - it's frustrating not being able to see. You have a choice of predictive text...

Review of Motorola V50
Advantages: Small, Stylish and Sexy Disadvantages: Slow sometimes, little tedious.
...The phone thats small, stylish and sexy, but is it all that its supposed to be? I can't really say its very bad but it is in a league of its own. Although I prefer Nokia phones because I have tried nearly every other type of phone. The motorola v50 is pretty good although accessing some menus is tedious and you may miss your old mobile phone because this one isn't so user friendly.
The phone has occasionaly slowed down on me and one month after reciving it, the screen did just muck up and go blank on me. This was replaced but only because it was a recent fault so anyone buying this phone, it IS worth getting insurance because I think it is supposed to have a lot of problems.
One feature that I like very much is the fact that it vibrates and you can record voice notes and telephone conversations. It also has a useful number...

Review of Motorola V50
Advantages: Stylish, pocket-sized, multi featured phone Disadvantages: Not as sturdy as I'd like and the bad selection of ring tones
...My old phone was a Nokia 3210 and my usual network is Vodaphone. Him indoors told me to treat myself and get a new mobile, and told me I deserved it, the Nokia was old, he loved me soo much and I deserved it… But he had an ulterior motive to steal the 3210 and waste loads of money on Star trek logo’s and Itchy and Scratchy/Specials ringtones. Anyway, the reason for choosing the Motorola V50 was because I’m sick to death of every other person having a Nokia, and because the Sony was sold out, goddamit.
First, the most important aspect when buying a mobile: How it looks. The V50 looks VERY stylish. It’s about 4 ½ inches long including the arial, obviously longer when you lift up the flip top bit to reveal the buttons. It’s a matt silver colour with a shiny silver stripe at the bottom, so you can be one...
