...a strong suction for a handheld cleaner, and works on carpets, upholstery and tiled surfaces. Though it can't pick up liquids from absorbent surfaces, this seems an unlikely use to begin with, and it picks up liquids from non-absorbent surfaces quickly and easily. The price is reasonable for this quality of cleaner, and perhaps the only improvement would be to include a "charging dock" to place the cleaner on when not in use. After 6 months, the cleaner has shown no faults and has not yet lost suction. Well worth buying, particularly for those with young children or pets. I bought the vacuum from Argos for around £25-30, but it appears to no longer be stocked there. I would therefore suggest that you purchase this vacuum if you happen to spot it, or else choose a similar Black and Decker product as they are simple to use and well... Read review

...The Black and Decker Dustbuster 4.8v cleaner is fantastic! It cleans everything! I'll run through a tried list: Corn Flakes, Dust, Tea, Wine, Sawdust Flies and spiders (!), Crumbs. DESIGN It can be attached to a wall next to a plug to be recharged before use. The dust is collected in a clear blue case which can be emptied and washed clean. Also, there are some attachments which can be put on the front of the vacuum to increase the power through making the gap in the front less. These attachments click into the base of the vacuum, making it easy to keep organised. CLEAN Cleaning the machine is very easy as the filters and the containers can be cleaned under the tap. This means that there aren't any expensive add-ons which need to be bought. GUARANTEE The guarantee (not that it's needed, as the workmanship is good) lasts... Read review

...Black & Decker 1205B 12V Pivot Vac. £59.77 from Argos A small cordless vacuum cleaner. It lives in its charger/base, which can be screwed to the wall, but is small enough just to sit on the worktop (unlike other cordless vacs, it stands on its end, so takes up very little space). The base needs to be near a 13A socket, but it doesn't need to be plugged in all the time, as a full charge gives plenty of suck-time (I have not timed it). The instructions (as is Black & Decker norm) are detailed, easy to understand, and helpful. The rotating nozzle may seem like a gimmick, but it makes the device very good at vacuuming on high surfaces (e.g. cupboard tops) and low inaccesable spots. There are two speeds, but usually the lower one is fine. The spout is telescopic, and there is a little brush that can be clipped into the end... Read review

...The idea of getting me one of these beasts for Christmas was a strange one. My husband was fed up with seeing the floor beneath my computer filled with dust, and thought quite rightly that it was probably damaging my computer. His idea was to buy me a small rechargeable vacuum cleaner that could be near to hand, so that whilst I was sitting here at my computer, it really would not take me a great deal of effort to lean down and clean the little bit of floor under my desk, getting in between the mass of wires and extracting dirt that did in fact damage my computer. Specifically, how to buy a vacuum cleaner. WHY DO YOU NEED A VACUUM CLEANER? Won’t a mop and broom do just as well? Well, no. Unless you live in prison, or some other environment with exclusively hard-surface floors, you need a vacuum cleaner. I have acres of hardwood, with some area rugs, and even that relatively small percentage of rugg'd territory demands frequent thorough vacuuming, thanks in large part to my dearly beloved cats, Peachy and Pogo. ...I lived in America a few years back, for a couple of years. Certain things rubbed of on me! Kids said I had become Americanised. Mainly from the accent, but it does tend to rub off., they also have some very good ideas. ! So, when the opportunity arrived for us to build our own house, the ideas came tumbling out. What a chance for me to express my newly discovered ideas. Early in the project we visted an Ideal Home exhibition locally. It wasn't a very big exhibition, but Wow! there in front of my eyes was the very thing. Lets do it!, we said. We did it! and we don't regret it. The built in vacuum cleaner. Expensive, yes! but we bargained with the salesman until we had a good reduction on the price. You can do that at shows!. ...This cleaner arrived in a box in three pieces, the instructions were not very clear but the pieces were simple enouch to work out how they should be assembled. On first use the main thing noticed was the noise, this is not a quiet vacuum for when the children are in bed. The turboforce and rotating brushes were brilliant at lifting the pile and picking up the pet hairs, fantastic i thought, but shame abouth the sound. The cable is very long so from one room to the next it is very easy to move without having to relocate the power supply. All was well although with such good pick up the waste container was soon ready for emptying. This can be a messy task as the filter needs taking out and manually tapping until it is clear of debris.
