Tesco VC005 cylinder vacuum - very disappointed
Review of Tesco VC005 cylinder vacuum cleaner by
bob21
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Useless on carpets.
...Bought this as a quick replacement for a broken upright vacuum cleaner. Knew that cylinder vacuums weren't ideally suited for large carpet areas, but not too bothered as I only vacuum about twice a month.
I have used many different vacuum cleaners over the years, and I can honestly say this is the least effective vacuum cleaner I have ever used. Am puzzled by one of the earlier reviewers praising it and then describing spending 30 minutes vacuuming one room and building up a sweat. I have had the same experience - spending ages and hard effort to vacuum a carpet and it not looking much cleaner at the end. Unlike them, I feel this defeats the purpose of vacuuming.
The build quality looks fine, and the loud motor certainly sounds as if it's halfway decent, but there's virtually no suction. When it does suck up some fluff...

When is a Hoover not a Hoover? When its a Vacuum
Review of Hoover TW 1550 Sprint by
runetune
Advantages: Great cleaning quality for such a small compact machine
Disadvantages: Couple of design flaws that just irritate
...20 years after she bought it new!
Now, I don't expect the TW 1550 Sprint to give us anything like as much life, and to be honest, I've been rather wary of Hoovers for a few years now because I've known a number of people have problems with them. Having said that, they are all Upright Cleaners that I was aware of, and this is a cylinder style machine so that stood it in good stead.
And I was desperate for a vacuum cleaner. I had given up on the Upright I had got because I suffer with arthritis and I was just finding it far too heavy to move around the house, because it was just too clumsy. And as usual, I didn't have much money to spend and a house with 2 dogs meant we needed something and fairly urgently.
I also wanted to ensure that we had either a bag-less machine or something that had a re-useable bag, partly on grounds...

Satan's vacuum cleaner
Review of Hoover TC5212 Cylinder by
vicki.lyon
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Where do I start ?!
...Hoover Dustmanager Cyclonic Bagless Cylinder Cleaner.
Sometimes inanimate objects make me really angry. I kind of have a 'Basil Fawlty' moment where I have to shout, scream and kick it a bit in the hope that it will somehow make it work. This vacuum cleaner ladies and gents is one of those such objects.
Never before have I been driven to the brink of insanity or felt such rage and fury against something. I can feel my blood boil as I think about this hoover even though it went to the great rubbish dump in the sky a good 3 months ago now.
THE TECHNICAL STUFF

2100 watts.
2.5 litre dust capacity.
Washable HEPA filtration.

TH 21 YEAR OLD HOOVER THAT REFUSES TO DIE!!
Review of Hoover Turbopower by
mrbonner
Advantages: Everlasting if looked after
Disadvantages: they don't make them anymore
...Before i start this review i have a very odd interest in vacuum cleaners which i have had since i was a child & i was a cleaner for many years before i had to give up work. i have owned & used many vacuum cleaners in my time.
The reason i have decided to review such an old product is because i despair of modern vacuum cleaners. most of them either make claims they cannot live up to or they work great for three weeks then break down. there are several reliable makes of vacuum cleaners on the market but they start at prices of over £100. i have beeen stung so many times by dud's that i very seldom often bother with the new ones.
The hoover in question is a hoover turbopower u2332 i believe theese cleaners were availible from 1983 up untill the late 1990s in varius colourschemes. they did models with cord retractors & built...

Hoover Telios vacuum cleaner
Review of Hoover T 5728 Telios by
ventjoran
Advantages: it seemed cheap
Disadvantages: would work better as hair dryer!
...I got this vacuum cleaner from one of the high street branches of the 'Index' catalogue when it was closing down, at a slight discount.
I now understand why the shop was closing down: they must have been inundated with customer complaints...
This is not a vacuum cleaner as we understand it. The suction is appallingly non-existent; whatever gets sucked in does not make it inside the bag, as the tube does not reach the opening of the bag. Bags a so little that they need changing half way through vacuuming a one-bedroom flat (I know, strange! as there is still half of the dust you want to get rid of lying about on the floor - really, for a proper clean, you'd be looking at 4 bags!)...
All in all, a total waste of money and effort every time I vacuum.
This is my third Hoover appliance (I also have a washing machine...

Jimmy Our Hoover
Review of Hoover Junior U1104 by
golddust2007
Advantages: It just goes on and on, lightweight, parts are cheap and easy to get
Disadvantages: No filters means its lousy for allergies, tool kit pointless for little suction. No longer on sale.
...In 1990 we had a very busy time of it, financial tax returns and decorations to the house meant we had to have a very tight financial budget to live on and by then it seemed that everything in our house started to go wrong. First we had to install a new combo gas boiler, then a new cooker was on the cards, the freezer blew up and to make matters worse our old faithful Hitachi cylinder vacuum ran out of suction.
Asking around for a cheap vacuum cleaner never mind shopping for one was a trial in itself and I was used to using my mum's old metal Hoover Junior before she demanded it back. My partner's brother laughed at us when he saw our own Hoover Junior U1104 (the plastic one compared to my mum's old heavy metal one) but we couldn't afford anything else at that time, and for £45-00 it seemed a good bargain at the time. He had his...

Dyson-ing with a hoover
Review of Hoover DM 5525 DUST Manager PETS RED/Champ by
milleniumzeus
Advantages: If you like to suck hard
Disadvantages: It does'nt like being hairy
...Now you all know me and I usually do not write reviews about things such as vacuum cleaners, but I thought I would share this experience that sucks, or doesn't in this case, with you all.
This one involves a machine called the "dust manager cyclone" made by the famous "Hoover" company.
HISTORY
For about 18 months we have had a second hand cylinder type dyson vacuum cleaner. Good on its day it is about 6 years old and donated by my Dad. However we have a long haired German Sheppard and when she moults, she moults. This year has been the very worst in all the time we have owned her; probably due to the summer arriving so fast and missing out spring altogether.
Hairs in every imaginable place you can imagine, knee deep in the kitchen during our absence during the day, clumps of it appearing like alien blobs in the lounge...

My Lightweight Hoover
Review of Hoover Telios T5604 1600 by
SleepyDormouse
Advantages: Good Suction, lightweight
Disadvantages: none
...than the old electrolux, and I can still hear the phone ring over it.
Suction
The Telios 1600 has a 1600 watt motor (hense the 1600 part of the name), this translates to 360 air watts of suction power, which is quite good for a bagged cylinder vacuum. I tested the 1500 in a high street store, and this vacuum does have an edge over the slightly lower spec model, but the difference is not huge. I have found the suction to be excellent for the carpet types I have, which range from very short pile to medium pile. You can also use in on hard floors such as lino, but i never have.
Filtration
This is one of the selling points of this model as it has a Hoover unique 'Sealed Suction System' with 7 stage filtration, but it wasn't something I was particularly looking for. The bag has three layers, there is also a secondary filter...

Proaction Vacuum Cleaner
Review of Proaction SL208 Cylinder by
newby2
Advantages: cheap and compact
Disadvantages: none really
...Proaction SL208 Bag-Less Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner
After moving in to my new built flat and having limited space for things such as Vacuum Cleaners and such like the idea to get rid of the oversized old cleaner was of course my own and not the thinking of my rather thrifty boyfriend. We did however come to a compromise and instead of my idea to get a compact Dyson for a large amount of money we settled on a compact cheap vacuum cleaner from Argos instead.
The idea of getting a bag less vacuum cleaner was really mine as I find the whole idea of having to spend money on bags, which seem to fill up in our house pretty quickly, only to throw away seems such a waste. The cheapest bag less vacuum cleaner available in Argos is indeed the very one we bought, this Proaction SL208. It set us back a mere £24.99p a price that I find...

Vacuuming sucks: How to buy a vacuum cleaner
Review of Member Advice on Vacuum Cleaners by
DaisyRose
Advantages: Consideration of all features will make the search easier.
Disadvantages: Vacuuming is still a useless and horrible task, regardless of what you buy.
..., and the Health Busybodies will probably bang on your door, eventually.
So take a deep breath and Just Do It.
I’m not going to address the niceties of mopping here; that’s the absolute ultimate in household chores I don’t even want to think about. What we’re going to deal with here, class, is...
Vacuuming.
Specifically, how to buy a vacuum cleaner.
WHY DO YOU NEED A VACUUM CLEANER?
Won’t a mop and broom do just as well?
Well, no.
Unless you live in prison, or some other environment with exclusively hard-surface floors, you need a vacuum cleaner. I have acres of hardwood, with some area rugs, and even that relatively small percentage of rugg'd territory demands frequent thorough vacuuming, thanks in large part to my dearly beloved cats, Peachy and Pogo. They are both short-hairs, very loving, and the sheddiest animals...
