Vacuuming sucks: How to buy a vacuum cleaner
Review of Member Advice on Vacuum Cleaners by
DaisyRose
Advantages: Consideration of all features will make the search easier.
Disadvantages: Vacuuming is still a useless and horrible task, regardless of what you buy.
..., and the Health Busybodies will probably bang on your door, eventually.
So take a deep breath and Just Do It.
I’m not going to address the niceties of mopping here; that’s the absolute ultimate in household chores I don’t even want to think about. What we’re going to deal with here, class, is...
Vacuuming.
Specifically, how to buy a vacuum cleaner.
WHY DO YOU NEED A VACUUM CLEANER?
Won’t a mop and broom do just as well?
Well, no.
Unless you live in prison, or some other environment with exclusively hard-surface floors, you need a vacuum cleaner. I have acres of hardwood, with some area rugs, and even that relatively small percentage of rugg'd territory demands frequent thorough vacuuming, thanks in large part to my dearly beloved cats, Peachy and Pogo. They are both short-hairs, very loving, and the sheddiest animals...

BUILT IN "HAMPSTER RUN" VACUUM CLEANERS!
Review of Member Advice on Vacuum Cleaners by
elinor.z
Advantages: No bags to empty, motor to pull or push along. lightweight. efficient. Lasts a lifetime.
Disadvantages: best fitted whilst building your house. fairly expensive.
...I lived in America a few years back, for a couple of years. Certain things rubbed of on me! Kids said I had become Americanised.
Mainly from the accent, but it does tend to rub off., they also have some very good ideas. !
So, when the opportunity arrived for us to build our own house, the ideas came tumbling out. What a chance for me to express my newly discovered ideas.
Early in the project we visted an Ideal Home exhibition locally. It wasn't a very big exhibition, but Wow! there in front of my eyes was the very thing. Lets do it!, we said. We did it! and we don't regret it.
The built in vacuum cleaner. Expensive, yes! but we bargained with the salesman until we had a good reduction on the price. You can do that at shows!. Salesmen often get good commission there, they also would rather not take the demo goods home...

Vax V006 turboforce upright vacuum cleaner
Review of Vax V-066 TurboForce Power Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner by
leversidgem
Advantages: bagless, long flexible pipe attached, very long lead, good at getting up pet hairs
Disadvantages: cleaning filter, noisy, overheats
...This cleaner arrived in a box in three pieces, the instructions were not very clear but the pieces were simple enouch to work out how they should be assembled. On first use the main thing noticed was the noise, this is not a quiet vacuum for when the children are in bed. The turboforce and rotating brushes were brilliant at lifting the pile and picking up the pet hairs, fantastic i thought, but shame abouth the sound.
The cable is very long so from one room to the next it is very easy to move without having to relocate the power supply. All was well although with such good pick up the waste container was soon ready for emptying. This can be a messy task as the filter needs taking out and manually tapping until it is clear of debris. Don't do this in the house or all your hard work is wasted.
Unfortunately after what seemed...

I will do the vacuuming cleaning mum
Review of Casdon Little Henry Vacuum Cleaner by
ldvda
Advantages: Exactly like the big version
Disadvantages: Expensive
...My daughter had a toy vacuum cleaner and it broke and she was pretty upset as she loved playing it. Well along comes Christmas and my daughter is opening her presents when she gets to the one from my aunt and it was a vacuum cleaner, but not any vacuum cleaner but a Henry vacuum cleaner. My aunt then explained that she was buying a vacuum cleaner for herself, a Henry of course and as she left she spotted this little version in the window so rushed back in and asked if it was for sale. The sales assistant explained it was a toy and not a mini version, she informed in she knew it was and just wanted to know if they sold them, which they did. You guessed it she brought it so that was why my little girl got one.
What do you get?
A Henry vacuum cleaner, the obvious item, which looks exactly like the proper Henry. Inside you get...

Tesco VC005 cylinder vacuum - very disappointed
Review of Tesco VC005 cylinder vacuum cleaner by
bob21
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Useless on carpets.
...Bought this as a quick replacement for a broken upright vacuum cleaner. Knew that cylinder vacuums weren't ideally suited for large carpet areas, but not too bothered as I only vacuum about twice a month.
I have used many different vacuum cleaners over the years, and I can honestly say this is the least effective vacuum cleaner I have ever used. Am puzzled by one of the earlier reviewers praising it and then describing spending 30 minutes vacuuming one room and building up a sweat. I have had the same experience - spending ages and hard effort to vacuum a carpet and it not looking much cleaner at the end. Unlike them, I feel this defeats the purpose of vacuuming.
The build quality looks fine, and the loud motor certainly sounds as if it's halfway decent, but there's virtually no suction. When it does suck up some fluff...

M-288 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner
Review of Ecoh M-288 Robot Cleaner by
cport80
Advantages: Can be left to get on with the job. Fairly quiet
Disadvantages: Low capacity. Roller gets covered in pet hair.
...The M-288 is THE most affordable robotic vacuum cleaner out there at the moment. Having read all the reviews on Ebuyer I decided to try it out.
When it arrived, it went straight on to charge and as soon as our little monkey went to bed we set it to work. It's surprisingly quiet for a vacuum cleaner. At one point I went upstairs and I couldn't hear it with the door closed (we live in a 3-bed semi so it's not as though I was that far away from it).
It seemed to skirt around the sides of the hallway, keeping the wall to its right. On it's return journey it went into the dining room and started on the lino in there. Surprisingly it managed to find its way out again after five minutes. This surprised me because it involved going back up onto the carpet (about a quarter to a half inch higher than the lino level).
We were unable...

Perfect cleaner for pet lovers!
Review of Sebo X4 Upright Vacuum Cleaners by
amcoop
Advantages: Amazing on pet hair, lightweight, quiet, easy of use
Disadvantages: None so far
...as well when using the cleaning hose and makes our sofa look as good as new every time.
Since seeing how well it cleans a couple of our friends and family have got a Sebo as well and are just as pleased. We have also seen that it came top in the Which magazine awards and was commented as the most reliable. We can well believe that.
It's not the cheapest cleaner at £229 but we feel well worth the investment. It's much cheaper than most Dysons, especially the Dyson Animal. Easy to get hold of from John Lewis or any main vacuum cleaner store.
In summary a great machine, worth every penny that's easy to use, amazing at cleaning and looks smart as well....

Dont Buy This Vac!!!
Review of Princess Turbo Tiger Compact Vacuum Cleaner 2755/2765 by
mohammadharrisjalil
Advantages: Small
Disadvantages: Too Noisy & Low Suction Power
...++++++++++

My next review is about my portable vacuum cleaner. Nowadays I am quite sure that every house has at least one vacuum cleaner that you use to clean your house. And I am quite sure that everyone that have vacuum cleaner had use it at least once a week especially to the house that have carpet (that I think every house do have it).
But nowadays, there are lots of portable vacuum cleaner is on the market and more and more people are using this type of vacuum cleaner as their second vacuum cleaner. The one that I use is the Princess Turbo Tiger Compact Vacuum Cleaner and I bought from the TV Shopping Channel.

Proaction Vacuum Cleaner
Review of Proaction SL208 Cylinder by
newby2
Advantages: cheap and compact
Disadvantages: none really
...Proaction SL208 Bag-Less Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner
After moving in to my new built flat and having limited space for things such as Vacuum Cleaners and such like the idea to get rid of the oversized old cleaner was of course my own and not the thinking of my rather thrifty boyfriend. We did however come to a compromise and instead of my idea to get a compact Dyson for a large amount of money we settled on a compact cheap vacuum cleaner from Argos instead.
The idea of getting a bag less vacuum cleaner was really mine as I find the whole idea of having to spend money on bags, which seem to fill up in our house pretty quickly, only to throw away seems such a waste. The cheapest bag less vacuum cleaner available in Argos is indeed the very one we bought, this Proaction SL208. It set us back a mere £24.99p a price that I find...

PROBABLY THE MOST POWERFUL UPRIGHT VACUUM CLEANER
Review of Dyson DC07 by
janna
Advantages: effective cleaning of carpets and upholstery etc.
Disadvantages: At 8.6kg slightly on the heavy side if you need to carry it about.
...If you good Ciao folks have read my last “shampoo” opinion, you will know that my husband occasionally works as an owner driver for Safeway and transports goods from warehouse to supermarkets all over the UK. From time to time he has come home with all sorts of really ‘useful’ goods that have been damaged in transit either free of charge or at a small cost only. Apart from the shampoo these have included a load of tinned cat food (we have no cats), bags and bags of frozen chips (I am trying to diet), 48 (yes, 48) containers of Dove Ultra Moisturising Body Wash…..I won’t go on, you have the idea by now.
Now following moose’s request for wine and choccies (not my request, you understand?) I did ask him for these along with the Dyson DC07 vacuum cleaner that Safeway were offering for sale...
