Vacuuming sucks: How to buy a vacuum cleaner
Review of Member Advice on Vacuum Cleaners by
DaisyRose
Advantages: Consideration of all features will make the search easier.
Disadvantages: Vacuuming is still a useless and horrible task, regardless of what you buy.
...and hand-held vacs, but I’m not going to discuss them here because they are basically just variations on the themes above. They are designed for light touch-up or spill clean-up use, not for heavy duty cleaning, and are used in addition to one of the above styles, not instead of. Unless you live in a really tiny space, the hybrids alone probably won’t meet your need for real cleaning.
OK, now we’ve got that out of the way, but there’s another important feature for you to consider: dust collection. You have two options:
BAG
• Until a few years ago, all vacuum cleaners had bags into which they deposited the detritus they collected. Vacuum bags are usually made of heavy paper, pleated in various ways. They enclose the refuse, so when they get full, you simply detach them from the machine, trot out to the trash, and dump them. Then put...

Great small cable-free vacuum for little tasks
Review of 7.2V Black and Decker Wet and Dry Dustbuster Vac by
pinkelephantuk
Advantages: It's great! Cable-free, rechargable, handy-sized, portable, efficient!
Disadvantages: You may grumble at battery life dwindling now - but 3 years use and still-going
...If you are looking for a handy vacuum to zap up a little mess or spills, this Black and Decker Wet and Dry Dustbuster is the thing!
Retail price: Around £45. No maintenance costs.
Background
With small children at home, things are constantly knocked over by mistake. When you have a little spill to clear up, and you don't want to hoist a normal-sized vacuum out of the cupboard, use the Dustbuster. It is a hand-held vacuum, and weighs about 2kg. It has a 4.8V motor - sufficient for sucking up a small mess, in my opinion, and can be used for 10 minutes non-stop.
Power and storage
This is a cable-less. By this I mean that you place it into the docking station to charge it up, and this is powered by the mains socket. There is a very handy docking station, which can be conveniently mounted on the wall (in the cupboard under...

SLIM BODY AND LOTS OF SUCKING ACTION
Review of DustBusters Plus Cordless Hand Vac DB450 by
zarniwoop
Advantages: Great and very handy
Disadvantages: has limitations
...like the proper little appliance that would suit all our needs. After buying this, my mother has now said that our old upright vacuum cleaner is terrible compared to this and we now need a new one or I will be doing all the hoovering from now on. Needless to say I looked up a good upright but thats just another different review I'm going to write. Onwards....
~~What is a Dustbuster?~~
A dustbuster is just a name for the rechargeable mini/hand-held vacuum cleaners which are great for small and fast pickups. They can be easily hidden under a coffee table or a chair or even be fairly discrete mounted on the wall if no attention is drawn to it. They are excellent and are always ready for use wherever and whenever as long as the battery is charged.
~~How Usefull is a Dustbuster?~~
Like I mentioned above, they are great as they can...

Do You Need A Hand Held Sucker??
Review of Black & Decker Black AND Decker by
bazzaoleary77
Advantages: Great Handy Tool
Disadvantages: Charge Time and Life
...We all own a vacuum cleaner and I have a Dyson but they are no good for reaching in those hard to reach places or doing the car unless you park your car right near the house, I also have the added need for a quick and easy way to clean up spills and crumbs from the babies when they are having their dinner. I am constantly having to either get the dustpan and brush out or the hoover so I decided to get a hand held vacuum cleaner. I looked online and after considering many different models the Black and Decker WV4850 seemed to be great value for money as at £19.99 it not only sucked up crumbs but had an attachment for sucking up spillages and an easy to empty dust/moisture container. I had used many different types of hand held and never really got on with them or liked the idea but at £19.99 I could not go wrong and I am so glad I ordered...

Dirt Devil Hand Held
Review of Dirt devil by
Renata
Advantages: Excellant suction power
Disadvantages: None
...We live in a flat and recently got a kitten who makes a lot of mess on a daily basis with her cat litter by flicking out the litter onto the carpet. It was becoming a work-up getting the vacuum cleaner out of the cupboard every day to hoover up her mess so I decided to look into a getting a hand held vacuum cleaner.
I discovered there were many hand held cleaners which you charge up on a unit which you plug into the mains but which loose suction power as you are hoovering. I was a little sceptical anyway with hand held cleaners as I had heard their suction power wasn't very stong. Eventually I came across the dirt devil handy zip which cost £28 and plugs straight into the mains so you don't have to worry about power loss.
I was extremally pleased with it's suction - it picked up all the litter stones from the carpet...

Essential hand-held
Review of Nintendo GameBoy Advance by
rodgers24888
Advantages: Batteries last a while, great fun!
Disadvantages: pricey games, no back-light
...are coming out in shops everywhere quite often. The only problem may be the cost of a game; at 35 pounds it might be a bit too much. But I still would suggest it to a potential buyer as it's very easy to pick up cheap second hand games either on e-bay or in game shops.
I would only recommend buying this over the GBA SP (which is essentially the same device but has a back-light and folds up to keep it safe) should you be short of cash. The SP is much better with rechargeable batteries included and the back-light can be turned on and off. It folds down and protects the screen from getting scratched and also looks very stylish. The GBA has no back-light and the worst thing is trying to direct the screen into any light. You can buy extra accessories that reduce this problem but you don't want to pay any more to stop this, so sometimes you might...

Playstation Portable (PSP) Hand held games console
Review of Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) by
moaning1
Advantages: Beautiful graphics for the size. Responsive Buttons. Not restricted to games
Disadvantages: Relatively expensive. To protect against scratches etc additional expense required.
...(Single-sided, dual layer)
Laser wavelength: 660nm (Red laser)
Encryption: AES 128bit
Profile: PSP Game (full function)
UMD Audio (codec ATRAC3plus™, PCM, (MPEG4 AVC))
UMD Video (codec MPEG4 AVC, ATRAC3plus™,
Caption PNG)
To summarise I would recommend a PSP to anybody looking for gaming on the move - It outclasses other hand held consoles by a wide margin.
The price is currently steep but hopefully this will come down.
It's a five star product let down only by it's cost and lack of protection. But on the basis that Sony will probably drop the price soon having wished only to fleece those of us who like the launch product I won't deduct marks because of this....

Doesn't recharge and doesn't make me sneeze
Review of Molton Brown Recharge Black Pepper Body Wash by
Vodkaboy
Advantages: Gets you clean
Disadvantages: So does soap
...deeply. The stuff doesn't lather up much at first; gradually as you rub the froth and foam build from nonexistant to minimal, and as it does so it does release a momentary, light scent of crushed pepper which is quickly replaced by a more bland, citrus aroma that itself lasts just seconds.
I sniffed the wash cloth. It smells of soap. Mm. Been there before.
I tried again, this time pouring the stuff straight onto my hand. I rubbed my hands together; again, a momentary tang of lemon pepper, dying as swiftly as conversation after a fart, then just the faint scent of soap. This time, however, the lather did appear quicker and more plentifully. Sadly it collaped equally quickly.
So, overall, a brief lather, a brief tang but you will get the same fromo your bar of Pears.
RESULT?
The stuff is called "Recharge Black Pepper Body Wash...

...…
What you get for your money: well I decided to buy the Giga pack from my local Game store which set me back nearly £220. This is what you get in the box…
-1 PSP system
-1 AC adapter
-1 Battery pack (rechargeable)
-1 set of headphones with remote control
-1 memory stick PRO duo 1GB
-1 PSP stand
-1 USB cable
-1 PSP pouch
-1 set of UMD software
-1 set of printed materials (instruction manuals etc)
-I also got a free game from my local Game store with the Giga pack
So you now know what you get in the box, but I'm sure you want to know what some of these things actually are. So here go's…
The PSP system: the actual PSP system is like no other hand held. The PSP for starters graces a 170mm x 74mm LCD TFT widescreen display, that's huge for a hand held. If the size can be compared with the quality then you are in for a treat...
