The Sony Vaio N505x
Review of Sony VAIO N505X - C 333 MHz - 10.4" TFT by
floatingclouds
Advantages: Light, looks great, and it's cheap
Disadvantages: Outdated, low specs, poor battery performance.
...Laptops are in high demand by students, professionals and home users. The specifications available today are truly amazing, but they can carry a high price tag.
The Sony Vaio PCG-N505X is a stylish compact laptop launched in 1998. It weighs a mere 1.2 kg, with a 10.4" TFT screen.
<<<<So how does it look?>>>>
With dimensions of 25.9 cm x 20.8 cm x 2.2 cm the laptop looks sublime.
The laptop casing is silver with a blue battery department at the back of the laptop (where the lid folds).
There are several slots on the left hand side of the device, which include; a memory slot, AC adapter, USB (just the one port), microphone and headphones. The other side of the laptop comprises of the: Power switch (which is a slide button), a reset button - which you press in and finally there is a slot to plug in your external...

Sony Vaio N505X - Pleasantly Surprised!
Review of Sony VAIO N505X - C 333 MHz - 10.4" TFT by
kenzo123
Advantages: Ultra-portable, Magnesium alloy casing, Runs XP no problem!, cost just £90!
Disadvantages: Battery life is about 1 hour, Low spec by today's standards
.... The base and lid is cast from a magnesium alloy which is cold to the touch and emphasises the products’ quality – remember this was once a high end premium product which retailed at over £1500.
******Performance:*******
The Sony Vaio N505X was originally designed for windows 98 therefore its specification is very low by today’s standards. See below:-
Processor: Intel Celeron 333 Mhz
Cache: 128 KB (on die)
Memory: 64 MB (Upgradeable to 128 MB)
Memory Information: 505-C1F 66Mhz (SDR)
Hard Disk Drive: 6.4 GB
Graphic Card: Neomagic MagicMedia 256AV
Video Memory: 2 MB

Good Vaio for Money (Get it?!)
Review of Sony VAIO NR38E/S - Pentium Dual Core T2390 1.86 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
IzzyS
Advantages: Decent spec., nice ergonomic design and feel to it, nice size, good value for money
Disadvantages: Touch pad and buttons a bit too close, the fn keys slightly dodgy (see review)
...this laptop but restarting always seems to fix it and its only happened once or twice, where the buttons don't work.
The other slightly annoying thing I find, is that there isn't a manual volume knob on the laptop and to adjust the volume, other than by messing about with the volume control in Windows, you have to use the 'fn' key and f3 and f4 buttons. I'm used to just using a knob at the side of the laptop which this doesn't have, so thats a slight annoyance. This is what happens when you get used to something being there I guess lol its all change...
In general, I am very happy with my Vaio. The keys on the keyboard are easy to use, their not loud like some and it does have a nice design to it, I feel its a decent specification and I don't have any real problems with programs taking ages to load, so I don't feel its underpowered for my...

SUPER SONIC SONY VAIO NR10 LAPTOP
Review of Sony VAIO NR10E/S - Pentium Dual Core T2310 1.46 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
donovan74
Advantages: DVD R/W, HIGH QUALITY, BEAUTY, GREAT VALUE
Disadvantages: DOES NOT MAKE COFFEE
...with features at a great price. A lot of scratching on my head was done before I decided that the Sony Vaio NR10 was the one for me.
It was quite a battle in the end between the Dell 1520 and the Sony NR10 Laptop as they both offered great value, but the Sony just had that extra bit of sparkle about it to make me part with my cash
SONY VAIO NR10
First of all the Sony Vaio NR10 has a superb 15.4" 1280 x 800 high resolution screen that is truly stunning to both look at (very slick indeed) and use, then there's a massive 2GM of ram (memory) which is over twice that of my previous Laptop. The state of the art processor 'Intel Pentium Dual Core T2310 / 1.46 GHz' is another very strong point as it now allows me to surf the internet extremely quickly, almost effortlessly and cuts out all the stress out of online activity.
The DVD±RW (±R DL...

Sony VAIO GR414SP - the road warrior.
Review of Sony VAIO GR414SP - PIII-M 1.2 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
eduardob
Advantages: Stylish design and comprehensive features.
Disadvantages: Mouse wheel, powersaver control.
...before I was due to fly out it hung. This was the only time that it has ever hung, which is no mean task in itself, but when I restarted it the hard disk made a sound like a distant swarm of sex starved click beetles, which then became a really ugly grinding sound...
The hard disk had died after 8 months - it was fixed under warranty. The techie told me that the industry statistic for laptop mortality rates in the UK is 30% in the first year. That isn't 3 out of 10 laptops need a little trip to the workshop - they don't survive to their first birthday! So, given the abuse that I have hurled at it, I would say the Vaio is pretty tough.
And pretty. It is a very stylish unit, which is fairly shallow to even comment on, but we're being thorough here. The muted metallic effect of the casing, quality feel of all the exterior parts...

Sony VAIO. You'll never need anythin else.
Review of Sony VAIO SZ4XWN/C - Core 2 Duo T7200 2 GHz - 13.3" TFT by
dbirse
Advantages: LIght, powerful, safe
Disadvantages: expensive
...mentioning those to give you an idea of what the VAIO series of laptops have to offer.
<< Sony VAIO SZ4XWN/C >>
This is the middle model of the SZ series of laptops making it the 2nd most expensive. On the SONY site the price posted is £ 1,531.06 without VAT. I am not 100% sure what my dad paid for his but I am sure it was not far off of that. Personally I think that is too much for a laptop but if I had that kind of money I would probably just get the best I could get. I am also slightly angry at my dad because now he has the most powerful computer in the house but I'll get a better computer soon I have been saving up for a while.
It comes with lots of different technological gadgets like the fingerprint recognition that work with the just the swipe of a finger but I think I have mentioned that one enough times throughout this. It has...

Sony Vaio the way to go!
Review of Sony VAIO GRT816S - P4 2.8 GHz - 16.1" TFT by
kepler3001
Advantages: Sharp screen image, high overall performance, great looks
Disadvantages: Continuous running of the fan
...I have had my Sony Vaio GRT816S for 3 months now and I thought that it is was high time I wrote a review about this marvellous notebook. Founded in 1946 Sony started out as a small company specialising in transistors radios, over the years their influence in the electronics market has grown and today they are probably the worlds most recognisable brand of electronic goods. In 1998 Sony launched their Vaio range of notebooks and these too have become the must have name in the notebook market.
The GRT816S is the top of the range model from Sony’s GRT800 range. As with most of the Sony Vaio notebooks it has a sleek and sharp looking design intended to lure looks conscious buyers like myself. It has dimensions of (WxDxH) 35.7 cm x 30 cm x 4.5 cm which is slightly bigger than your average notebook but not a major concern. It comes...

SONY VAIO - A stunning machine
Review of Sony VAIO PCV-RS122 - P4 2.4 GHz by
gusgusrule
Advantages: Fast, loads of storage, superb looking design
Disadvantages: Expensive
...Every three or four years I tend to browse for a new computer, I think its a suitable amount of time after which to renew a computer, as not only has new technology been introduced but it also come down in price slightly. I purchased this new Sony Vaio PCV RS122 in October of 2003. Before I got it, I had a Packard Bell. It was an older model with a 6 gb harddrive and about 96 MB ram, just to familiarise you with what I was coming from and for you to realise how impressed I was with the spec of this new machine from Sony. I made my purchase as part of a package and had it home within hours.
To start with I'll give a quick introduction to the specification. Its a 2.4Ghz Pentium 4 processor, and thus very fast, with 512MB RAM and an 80Gb hard drive. Its a cool unit finished in silver and makes the perfect addition to the home...

Sleek and Stylish Sony Vaio
Review of Sony Vaio VGN-N230 by
RazzaLazza
Advantages: Great price for a Sony, Highly aesthetically pleasing
Disadvantages: Gets dirty extremely easily
...I have always wanted a Sony Vaio laptop; as far as I’m concerned, there is no laptop out there that comes anywhere close to being as aesthetically pleasing and stylish as the Vaio. In white, the Sony Vaio is by far the most attractive laptop on the market, and when I saw this moderately priced white Sony Vaio sitting there for the taking, I knew that it was something that I just had to own. Macbook’s are similarly styled, however I have always preferred the Windows operating system so for me, a Macbook was not a viable option.
In the past, Sony have always priced themselves a bit out of the market by marking up their laptops at a higher cost than similar specification machines, however the VGN-N230 breaks with this tradition and has brought Sony well and truly into the budget laptop market which is great to see...
